  1. Funny that, I actually looked up Miles Marathon because that is what my brain told me. I was quite surprised to see HP.
  2. Handley Page Marathon?
  3. Without reference to any books or internet, I think it is (if my memory serves) an Aero 145 from what was Czechoslovakia with, I think, Walter Mikron engines. Was one of my favourites when I was a kid. (If it is)
  4. Yes. Absolutely not a clue on that one. Looks like a high wing volksplane.
  5. What about this one?
  6. Reid and Sigrist DS3?
  7. Four Pobjoys were a bit of a giveaway!
  8. 2nd incarnation, 1st had triple fins.
  9. Don’t know this one but it looks as if only a contortionist could get into it!
  10. Look at the pitch on those propellers. I doubt if my Little Jab could even turn it!
  11. Yes, even as a retired LAME I still had to do what I consider to be a wholly inappropriate course. As you say, it is all paperwork and to a very large extent concentrates on corrosion, which let’s face it, is fairly irrelevant for homebuilt experimental, since there are wooden and fibreglass types and even metal ones are not going to be a corrosion problem for years.
  12. As a retired LAME I agree with you on the comment about appalling work by some. I believe part of the problem is that CASA are only concerned about paperwork being 100% correct and never actually look at the aeroplane.
  13. Like I said, dinosaurs. However you look at it, daylight is more useful when people are up and about than 4am when most people want to be asleep. Fortunately being retired I am not limited to working hours, sleeping hours etc. I’ve heard all the Qld arguments against it, most of which are totally inane, fade the curtains, cows won’t know when to give milk, even “ I won’t survive losing an hours sleep every night” and of course “the children won’t go to sleep if it is light at night” I grew up in Scotland where, in Summer, it doesn’t get dark until after 11pm and light again around 2.30am and guess what, the kids still went to sleep. In Winter we went to school in the dark and came home in the dark. But it doesn’t matter what argument is used, the minds of Queenslanders cannot be swayed. Your blanket analogy, which I have also heard before, may be meant to be derisory but no one suggests that there is more daylight, only that it is more useable. Imagine, you could even do a cross-country after work without needing an NVFR endorsement!
  14. Those of us Queenslanders who enjoy daylight have to create our own Daylight Saving Time since the dinosaurs have barely arrived in the 20th century, never mind the 21st!
  15. Didn’t take long.
  16. G’day from Queensland, just a mention that we honeymooned at Ocean Sports after flying into Malindi nearly 45yrs ago. East African VC10 from Heathrow to Nairobi and F27 to Malindi. Never to be forgotten trip, my wife hates F27s to this day.
  17. Some advantage to being an old bastard with some ancient books. Since you are out, try this one that I found. Last one I posted was answered in about 5 seconds, see if this is any better?
  18. I’m a real wuss when it comes to wind in my 701. I was taxying to the fuel bowser one day in a strong headwind and it wanted to lift off at around 10kts ground speed. Don’t believe I’m skilled enough to handle almost vertical takeoff and landing and for sure that amount of crosswind! Not sure either how one can make a stable approach in unstable air?
  19. How about Max Holste Broussard? Courtesy this time of Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Aircraft 1978.
  20. I have a 1972 Janes all the world’s aircraft and a 1968 Civil Aircraft of the World that have been handy. I just happened to see the last one whilst trying to find the Collegiate. I should know this one as well but for the moment memory fails me, as do the aforementioned books!
  21. Procaer F15B Picchio?
  22. Don’t know why I thought it was French!
