  1. So what is stopping someone building and flying a cheap rag and tube Bull? What rules have been changed that restrict grass roots flying? Just because others like going faster in something more flash shouldn’t stop the grass roots flyers nor do I think the grass roots flyers should discourage those flashier types after all we are all airmen (and women). Seeking for more freedoms across the board shouldn’t be frowned upon by anyone imo as long as it doesn’t cause more restrictions on the grass roots level. Having said that we live in a society that seems to restrict more and more things to keep people ‘safe’ so we really need to stick together to make sure we keep it in check.
  2. Well Keith take this next post as an example. You have told us basically nothing yet here you tell us "I have said too much already" but then say if you ever get put before a court of law that you will be able to use facts. I personally think (and this could be legally wrong!) that you would be better off stating facts here on this forum than insinuating wrongdoings by RAA or any individual. Saying you won't give us facts because they could be "twisted" comes across as if you don't trust that the facts will even support your argument. Lastly if you aren't happy to share facts or at least point people to a difinitive source then what advantage is it to anyone to throw random accusations?

I too dislike the over regulation and the lack of personal responsibility but the trouble is Keith seems to be saying that is all RAA's fault and hints that ELAAA won't have any of that and it is just a tad annoying. I am all for Keith and the ELAAA to go ahead and I wish them all the best but I can't stand the pokes and digs which 'seem' to be aimed to sow discord amongst RAA members for their own personal gain.
  4. While I don’t mind people being ‘enlightened’ with the ‘facts’ I think your circumstances tarnish your message Keith. Maybe it would be different if you were just a member of ELAAA but being the director (going off memory so could be wrong!) it doesn’t come across well having you throw dirt at RAA.

  11. I have often wondered about this visibility argument. From what I have seen the only time a low wing has 'better' visibility IMHO is in turns but seriously how often are we turning? Flying in a low wing you do get an uninterrupted view of the sky but generally there isn't too much of interest up there (not in the conditions I fly in anyway) to see. In my high wing other than the nose area and fuse I get an uninterrupted view of the ground. On longer cross country legs I have spotted so many things looking down past my leg in a 'normal' straight and level configuration that I never would have spotted in a low wing without flying hard turns. Anyway not having a go at low wings but just pointing out what I see as 'great visibility'

  13. While I do fully agree with you on this one Butch I also believe the law needs to stay the way it is in regards to not having a legal responsibility to do so. I also don't agree with people filming instead of helping BUT I also think we should always have the right to legally film in a public place. So while I think these things are morally wrong I think they should always be legal to do.

  15. Oooh yeah! Scaled down to a single seat with an option for a second seat in tandem or set up for a single bed behind the main seat! Would that be the perfect single pilot camping setup?

  17. I think it is just a long lens, at first glimpse it looked like some really low flying but after working out wingspan compared to chairs ect it is a bit more reasonable.

  20. Investigation: 199700429 - Wheels up landing involving a Cessna Aircraft Company 210L, VH-SKQ, Karratha, Aerodrome, WA on 15 February 1997 Only atsb report I could find. Seems if this was the incident there is no way you can blame the pilot for this one.
  21. Have you met Ken flower who instructs at Narrabri? I did my first solo check flight with him when first learning to fly and since then I did a bfr with him in my 19 reg Hornet. I would think he would be worth a phone call as he may be happy to do your training in your superstol/highlander or in his aircraft if that is what you decide. He would have a local instructors opinion anyway.
  22. What are your intentions with it Cam? By that I mean are you expecting to fly it fairly often or is it just storage for a time? We have a little hangar space at YQDI but are finding ourselves struggling with people not wanting others to move their planes. So in reality our space would really only be for someone who was storing for a time (or someone who was happy with someone else moving their aircraft)

I think you will find it is only the first hours on the plane that are the issue Adrian, seeing as you are looking at the just aircraft kits I would reccomend a phone call to Brett would clear that bit up. I think he has flown off the first 25 hours before but that would need to be confirmed. Then if you were keen to learn in it it is only a matter of finding a willing instructor (which I don't think would be hard) Of course the other option would be to do your initial training in something else and then transfer over to yours after that (I would still recommend trying to get Brett to fly off those first few hours!) I would also think a trip down to visit Brett (and of course us other friendly locals!) would be well worth the expense of the fuel! Don't hesitate to pm me if you need anything down this way (for example if you bludged a flight down I could organise a car for you to use from YQDI.
  24. I think like OME said having the atsb investigate an equipment failure is understandable but why on earth would you expect them to investigate something that is so obviously pilot induced? As it is the atsb doesn't have enough resources to investigate all our Raa fatals so why would we even wish them to investigate something so obvious?
  25. As much as I dislike CASA I think it would be foolish of us to demand more be done here. At the end of the day self reporting is a whole let better for us as pilots than a huge heavy handed approach. Do we seriously want ourselves to be hauled over the coals every time we do a mistake? For sure wheels up landings that are operator error shouldn't happen but I too am human so I won't be throwing too many stones.
