  1. Lucerne can end up a bit rough after a while. I would suggest sticking with the grass mix and instead of doing the full 10metres to start with just do the centre five and let it creep out as time goes on. If you are planting varieties that creep then plant it thinner and let it fill in. It is a bit of a compromise though because if you don't get it thick enough quick enough you will end up with weeds.
  2. We can't even find MDZ or whatever the rego was of that one that disappeared in the Barrington, so I hardly think we should criticise others on finding planes.
  3. So originally I just ran three of these glass filters, one from each wing tank and one after the header tank They worked well BUT Ole had heard of one that failed and dumped the full tank of fuel while sitting in a hangar, he was a tad sceptical about this and my hornet was over at Taree for a service and as luck would have it one of mine failed while there so we changed the two that come down from the wing tanks to these These can't fall to bits and have plenty of capacity. Not being see through I change these at every oil change. We kept the one glass filter after the header tank BUT Ole machined up a new solid through rod which hasn't had any issues.
  4. I have changed from using clear glass filters to using a largish automotive filter. I will take some pictures today and post them.
  5. Well it doesn't get much better than my afternoon. A nice get together with close friends then I got home with an hour to spare before dark. The better half wanted to read the kids their goodnight stories so I gave them a kiss goodnight and went and did a quick daily check and I was off! I spent the whole hour within 1nm of the farm boundary and did heaps and heaps of touch and goes on every paddock that didn't have a crop! Trying to hone my short landings and threw in a few deadstick (idle engine!) just to add some challenges. Maybe I had too much coffee this afternoon but it is the most enjoyable flight I have had in a long time and I have been flying regularly the last few weeks. I didn't bother with any photos today but I did take a photo after our last YQDI flyin where I had to leave early and fly to YGDH. I flew boy over and after lunch flew home with girl
  6. Yep much better to have it and have the extra option than be wishing you or your pax had the big red handle when things add up against you.
  7. Yes and some confused replies when I do a ten mile call with an arrival time early next week:roflmao:
  8. Peter if you are ever down near YQDI let me know, I am always more than happy to take people for a fly in my AAK Hornet! Welcome to the forum.
  9. Bruce did mention some hassles in post 187 I think, but bear in mind these are the first of the first.Question - Latest Jabiru 2200 - reliability
  10. tf isn't misspelt it is just the new way of swearing without actually typing it.Where tf translates to where the f*#€ Having said that I still dislike it!
  11. So where does it say 'new' minimum standards?
  12. I see Aldi have a special on flour at the minute! It might be worth stocking up before the trip Col!
  13. Personally I think it depends a lot on what sort of pilot you are, inasmuch as if you are meticulous about scanning gauges every few minutes and are perfect at watching temps on climb then you would be fine with a jab, but if you are like me and operate gear a bit rougher then the rotax with its water cooling is a lot more forgiving!
  14. While I love my STOL planes I have to agree with HITC in regards to the four seaters plummeting comment. While a stol plane may glide slower their glide ratios are generally much worse than the sleeker designs so technically, while I dislike the phrase plummet, the stol is actually closer to plummeting than a sleeker design aircraft. As for forced landings I would take a STOL plane over a sleek any day but when choosing a plane there is a lot more to consider than its forced landing characteristics. I LOVE big tyres but for long cross country trips they aren't as practical.
  15. It depends on which 150, they seem to vary from 440kg all the way to over 500.150E The 1965 Cessna 150E saw only the addition of new seats, although the standard empty weight went up 40 lb (18 kg) that year to 1,010 lb (460 kg). The "E" model saw production increase to 1637 aircraft.[6]
  16. I don't know about four big Aussies but I have seen a few four seater Jabs. I had looked at them as an option for the family 2adults and 2 kids would be perfect for them. There are three different reports in the link. It is impossible to tell but if all the eyewitnesses are to be believed it was a combination of a few things strong wind reduced power? Tree? stall? “The aircraft took off the ground at 10:05am. The aircraft then flew around the airpark. Ten minutes later as the aircraft was going to land the wind got stronger so the captain decided to fly around. A strong wind blew causing the aircraft to fall, the captain tried to raise the aircraft up again but finally the aircraft crashed into the ground,” the report stated. Speaking to The Phuket News from the scene, Maj Gen Teerapol said, “After talking with witnesses we have learned that the aircraft was trying to land. The aircraft failed to land as the wind was very strong. The aircraft then went back into the air but the engine stalled causing the plane to fall. Pitchayathida Pitchayodaecha, 40, a local resident who lives in the nearby Plernjan housing estate told The Phuket News, “I saw the aircraft flying round, which is normal. Not long ago I saw the aircraft again with a strange noise coming from the engine. The aircraft looked as if it was out of control as it was flying slower and slower. The aircraft first hit the top of a tree and then hit the ground so I called for help.”
  17. So how many 152s are registered RAA? The first person to mention Cessnas spoke about 150s not 152s. The 150s run at about 440kgs which is the same as KR's Rv. The 152s however are closer to 490 so we need to work out what we are actually talking about.
  18. If you have good internet I can recommend the "Arlo" units at Harvey Norman. They are exxy but work awesome. They record everything straight to the cloud and you get realtime alerts to your mobile device, you can also watch them live on your device and they have a built in speaker so you can actually talk through them from the other side of the country. Their only downside is their reliance on power/internet. So while it is mostly a positive (crims can steal the cameras but never the footage!) if you happen to have a blackout you will get nothing so it would be wise to also have a discreet "trailcam" hidden in a bush somewhere to cover every possibility. We do have the trailcam sort as well but I find I don't keep them charged/downloaded as often as I should, the Arlo ones are just so user friendly with no physical interaction required other than a battery charge every six months or so (they let you know their battery strength so you don't miss it.)
  19. You have to watch those alpacas!!! You can be happily flying along nice and low herding sheep when up pops a long neck out of the mob! They are as hard to spot as powerlines!
  20. A quick search and a quick pound conversion comes up with 400 odd kilos empty. (440 by my rough maths)
  21. Just so you know KP Jet replied to your message and said there is no way he can hide his posts from you or anyone else. It would seem you have him on your ignore list. I am guessing you accidentally ignored him because surely you couldn't deliberately ignore him and then blame him for hiding his posts?!
  22. FT isn't the RAA chairman. No offence to FT but there would be a tad more whingeing if he was I think. He mentioned at the start that it was a copy paste from the latest sport pilot mag
  23. Yeah that approach would be to be expected in gusty winds. Easy to overanalyse things like this but that is how we learn I guess. Did he have left Aileron held in as well or is that just made to look that way due to flaperons with flap set? As for rudder I only have a small screen so can't really tell what it is doing until after he is well around to the left where you can see left rudder input BUT that could entirely be because of the cockpit angle at that time. A bigger screen may make the rudder input clearer earlier on.
  24. I guess it is just the farmer in me but I would love to see something else holding the two fuses together and not just that middle wing section.
