  1. They normally send a new card out after a BFr or after a membership renewal. My last renewal had my bfr out of date but I thought I still got a plastic card? Unless my memory is dodgy. As a side note I would like to see them send out an email notice of bfrs that are nearly out of date, similar to a rego renewal or membership renewal.
  2. It may be a little of my jealousy showing through Old K, just wishing it was me up there visiting HITC so didn't want you to feel too happy:sad angel:
  3. Would it not be a safer option to just give it a good rinse with a fair amount of premium unleaded?
  4. Well that is the first time I have ever heard of old K as 'well regarded' but on a serious note the build is looking awesome HITC and I look forward to catching up with old K when he gets back to try and glean even more out of him about it all:thumb up:
  5. As far as landing fees and council goes we have been pretty lucky here and currently have a good relationship with our council, they did bring up landing fees in one of our meetings with them and we did discuss it for a while and went over all the options. At the end of it after discussing the various options it was agreed by all that if (it isn't something they are planning on at this stage just a discussion of what ifs) council wanted to get some form of landing fees then an honesty box at our terminal area would be the best way. That way no one gets upset and the council doesn't pay any middle man to collect fees. A win win all around. Our council runs a caravan camping spot in a similar fashion and have been extremely happy with how that has been going for them. People are always happier to pay a "donation" than a fee.
  6. Half an hour travel every day would be enough to cause you to not fly on some days just due to the effort of traveling. I don't know the local flying scene up that way but is there any friendly farmers around close that have a suitable area to take off and land? from all accounts the Clifton crowd are great but I do see a half hour travel as a negative especially if you aim to fly super regularly.
  7. I went to the bom site Graphical Area Forecasts (GAFs)
  8. You fellas and your dodgy advice are dangerous! Any backwards farmer could set you both straight, you can’t just whip up a dodgy extension it needs to be done properly and then welded on just to be sure. If it is only the 80hp rotax half a dozen tacks and a smidge of silastic would be fine. CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!! This post is tongue in cheek and anyone who takes it for real advice is........ well dumb beyond belief I guess:whistling:
  9. I wouldn’t be too quick to criticise the youngsters and their knowledge of the road rules, I think you would find most p platers would know the road rules better than all of us fuddy duddies. Obviously their driving skills may leave a lot to be desired but the knowledge of the rules is generally there. I know for myself when doing my licence I was telling dad left right and centre about all these new rules that had been introduced/changed since he had last read a rule book and I know for myself that I haven’t read a road rules book since I passed my last license (notice one with c and one with s to please everyone!) test so I would expect to not be up to date 100%
  10. While I don’t have the luxury of a zero one call sign I do enjoy using the “hornet” part although like you Garfly I suspect the ground speed may give me away. Hmmm maybe we should do a flight together one day:thumb up: “Ranger zero one in company with Hornet for victor one” sounds like it would fit the Bill
  11. I agree sandman! He needs to do more inverted flying:thumb up:
  12. While I agree that car engines are good and I would expect them to outlast an aero engine the only time I have had a car engine outlast the car body is when the car has crashed. Although I guess it depends on what you call 'out last', I am assuming that you mean when the engine has a major failure requiring a rebuild?
  13. Since when ft? I've done my bfr in my 19 registered as well as the start of my LL endo.
  14. I wonder if the judge would use the phrase "if it looks like a duck and talks like a duck then it is probably a duck"? I think if you are going to have a big flyin (and just a flyin) then I think it would be worth the effort to tick the boxes, after all what everyone seems to be hinting at is a little bigger than a little aeroclub get together and it would be a shame to bring unnecessary attention onto us from the regulator.
  15. It seems by their definition that a flyin with public notice (like maybe notice on a public forum such as this?) is an air display. But in the example it mentions for a competition or event so I am not sure how a flyin for a flyins sake stacks up.
  16. Is that like telling an actor to break a leg:yikes:
  17. Well I do enjoy the airshow side of things. I don't see myself travelling too far for a flyin with no other attractions. I don't mind an hour or two flight each way but any further than that and I won't be going as that would require an overnighter which takes me away from the family (they won't want to go if there is only a flyin) which is the total opposite to what should be happening at holiday times like Easter. I think if you trawl through the old threads when natfly (or whatever it was called) was on at Easter time you will find plenty of people saying they couldn't come because of family commitments. I personally think the public needs to be included especially if we are interested in the long term health of our sport. Now that doesn't have to be at every flyin but I think it is very important to include them. The more we can let the general public see we are not elitist rich pricks the more we will have their support when it comes to aviation matters.
  18. unfortunately having a company 'policy' saying it is illegal to fly over company land is nearly laughable, for sure all their other points are valid but that one does diddly squat. I would love to see the ruling about the 80 odd feet mark and what it was in regards to? Did it have anything to do with drones? I didn't think anything could be done about drones flying over property (for sure they can be done for trespassing if they take off from said property but otherwise I thought it was hazy). It is an area where I think rules need to be set to protect people from privacy incursions. Flying a plane over somewhere with a go pro dangling is one thing but hovering at 10-20 feet with a drone can be pretty intimidating and a huge violation of privacy. I fly a drone but I think it should be ok to shoot them down if safe to do so.
  19. I enjoyed all of that FT except the full power runs inside in a shed that dirty, that made me a tad nervous. Not that there is anything wrong with a messy workplace, all of mine are at least that bad, but just the fact that there are so many things that could've picked up or gone wrong but anyway still entertaining and good on him for doing what he is doing. Certainly outside of my patience capabilities.
  20. Which point? I would like to think it proves the point that the fence wasn't a huge deal. I would also like to think it proves it was an enjoyable outing enjoyed by most. (Obviously not enjoyed by those who weren't there)
  21. Firstly my shirt, I was going to upload this on the day but couldn't from my phone. (I don't mind if anyone wants to copy it, it may suit a few here:amazon:) Next my Little girl. Note the FREE face painting! Also note the "reasonable" barrier between us and the air show. My little boy, Note the smile and paper aeroplane. (Face was painted but I don't think to take pictures that make sense.) Next is the paper plane competition which was a huge hit with the kiddies, it was a fair lineup to have a go! Note the planes not separated from the children by anything other than air! Ps my little fella in the under 5 paper plane division scored a neat bag with a nice hat and drink bottle. (Could have gone to all under fives but not sure as I wasn't there) he was stoked and hasn't taken the hat off since. And for good measure a couple of pics of "the fence". Note the people walking freely to and fro on the far side of it. I didn't count the planes that flew in but considering the weather it was IMHO a good turnout.
  22. I only have a couple of photos but am having trouble uploading them. My phone and iPad normally automatically resize them but they aren't at the minute. I will work at it and get them up. They aren't exciting pisctures though as the daughter had the phone most of the time so she could video the sky while the air show was on:surrender:
  23. Well as a member I certainly hope they are looking after the bank accounts! For sure they are there to look after members but if the money isn't managed then it won't matter how well we have been looked after.
