    Put ozrunways on your phone and do it in a tandem seated plane:whisper: But on a serious note make sure you keep an accurate track of where you are, doing a diversion when you aren't 100% sure of where you are is stressful and fraught with the danger of embarrassment of ending up geographically challenged.

    Well with logic like that why not make it mandatory for all of us to have a tcas? That would be even more effective than just a radio and wouldn't have the hassle of doofus getting the wrong frequency. Anyway that was just a sarcastic comment pointing out the fact that further regulation is not always the answer.

    Looking at the first video it looks to me like a winch launch and not a quad towing setup, the cable appears to be coming from the end of the paddock all the way from the start. I would guess they only use the quad to tow out the cable for each launch.

    Well I think good on them for 1, sending the forms out with a mag (it gets all of us a mag to read and maybe an extra subscription or two, I don't know how much cheaper it would be than a letter mail out but letters aren't cheap anymore.) 2, giving us all a few more days. Seriously people complain that there wasn't enough time and now people are complaining that they are extending the deadline.

    anyone who thinks everyone should use a radio shouldn't be aloud to fly! I think radios are a very important and useful tool but I think that there certainly should be allowances made for people to fly without them if they so desire, obviously not at every aerodrome but I think the current rules for radios are sufficient.

    Not hard to imagine at all Teckair, how many times have you seen a chicken hawk or similar sized small bird while flying, they are hard to see at times but other times you can spot them ahead for a fair amount of time. I know for certain of a couple of drones within our district that have been well over the 500ft agl mark so they definitely are up and around. Having said that birds are a lot more prolific so I don't think drones are a huge safety issue but certainly we should be mindful of them, they don't duck as good as birds..

    At the end of the day even if there is 'new' battery tech only 15 years away from being viable why on earth should Bex wait or worse join the line of kickstarters promising everything for nothing when he could build a viable (albeit heavier) plane within the next 5ish years and have a decade of electric plane market?

    Of course a bird would make similar marks. But I don't see why people think it is impossible to hit a drone?!

    Looking at the atsb report photos it doesn't look at all like a vertical crease but a dint exactly like you would expect a drone to make.

    The thing is if you had a standard generator setup it wouldn't just be a range extender, running on either Avgas or Mogas it would effectively be a recharge unit at any strip with an avgas supply. I think that would be fairly important until electrical recharge points became widespread.

    Well the biplane would be nice and would appeal to more people but an extra set of wings adds extra fairings ect whereas a flying wing style is a more practical for your purpose. Personally I think the stats would sell it even if it is 'unconventional' after all what is not to like about a few hours of electric flight. Just an extra silly idea that I was pondering, how hard would it be to have external hard points for a little internal combustion generator unit thingy. Obviously would need aerodynamic encasing but would have a small engine/generator with its own built in fuel tank, it could be run in flight or at remote strips that didn't have power supply. Yes it would be extra weight but it seems to me that this aircraft is already outside a 600kg limit so an extra 50kgs or so may give people an extra option and if it was a simple attach point it could easily be attached or removed as needed.

    I agree Birdseye but that biplane looks pretty nice too and would probably be more widely accepted by a broader range of us. I have always liked different designs but a lot of people are more conservative.

    When you say he had free lanes on either side does that mean it was in a 3 lane section? I am just stirring but one thing that really annoys me is people who don't keep left when there is no one in the left lane within north koreas missile range! Anyway I did think overtaking on the left was a no no (but am too lazy to check the rules so happy to be corrected) which would eliminate the left lane as a legal option (albeit one I have used an awful lot). Also I thought, again with no bulletproof legal quotes, that trucks in a far right lane in some sections of three lane road was also a no no?

    If it was a 'muzzie' (only using that term as it was the one you used FT) it wouldn't have even made the news unless they had some ordinance attached! Personally I think for similar offences (if the law has been broken) that aren't done maliciously and don't result in injury should be dealt with a warning for the first offence.

    I think it makes more sense to have all identical bits kept together rather than separating them into sub assemblies. There is nothing worse than having half a dozen packets of the same bolt or nut, it just adds clutter. Actually for what it is worth it would be nice to have all small bits come from the manufacturer in a hard case similar to rgmwa's all labelled in a way that won't fade after a couple of weeks. I know it may add a bit to production costs but the end product would be so much more user friendly for only a small increase, much better than individual bags or shrink wrapped parts which need half sorting to start with. As for spares it is always nice to have some as it doesn't take much effort or innattention to lose or ruin small parts but where do you stop? I would think a spare bolt or two for each particular size would be ok and if using nylocs then maybe a few extra spares of those and then rivets I think you would be negligent if you had less than 100 spares. (Who has ever built a plane without drilling out a rivet or two?!)

    i think it is well worth an hour or two for anyone going past Taree to call in there, even if you have no interest in stol planes Ole and his team are a treasure trove of information. A local product well worth looking after.

    Guy I got my tool the same as that from Ole at AAK at Taree when I built the hornet so he would probably be able to point you in the right direction. Having said that jets idea of the laser pointer is a good one and is a lot more accurate. I was taught to secure the plane then use the laser pointer pointer at the roof(the floor makes more sense for marking it and keeping track but the distance to the roof will give you better accuracy) and then measure the prop tip height off the floor to ensure accuracy between blades.

    Always weigh up if you really 'have' to get anywhere even by car. Yes I know it takes out or really reduces the weather element but pushing boundaries of fatigue ect just because you 'have' to get somewhere will be just as deadly in a car.

    A white balloon 500 feet lower against a white background, you would be hard pressed to spot it without technical help.
