  1. :roflmao:Bull I don't always agree with you but that was a cracker
  2. Well I enjoyed it Bull but I am not going to start another thread on it as there are already 3 threads about it! At the end of the day maybe they made the wrong call but I certainly don't hold it against them, after all if the sums don't add up at the end of the day it won't be a sustainable event. Sure they can do better and maybe with a bit of constructive feedback they will improve but having said that I will go again next year even if nothing changes. Having said that I would say they will take suggestions seriously and I would expect the next one to be better.
  3. There is at least 1 commercial option flying direct from tamworth to Brisbane now Old K but I haven't priced them! It might be cheaper to fly to Sydney and then back to Brisbane? It would definitely be cheaper to fly Newcastle to Brisbane but further to get there by car. None of those options are as fun and fulfilling as flying yourself though! But worth considering if time/weather becomes a problem.
  4. Old K it sounds like you could benefit by carrying a spare set of clothes in a 'dry bag'. There are thousands of versions of these varying from top quality ones made out of solid truck tarp material all the way down to Chinese ones made out of some see through fabric that is still apparently waterproof. I have a variety of them here at home and will try and remember to show you them. The good quality ones are a tad heavier but I think worth the difference. BCF have a good range and may be a good place to start. Dry Bag - BCF Australia
  5. I agree the air show was a bit of a way away but I would say that was to maintain the runway as the display line? Places like Gunnedah that have the runway much closer to the viewing area are better setup for this but you can't have everything. Maybe it could have been gotten around by using the taxiway as the display line but then you would have had bigger delays between acts as the next act wouldn't have been able to be under the current display, on top of that if the aircraft camping/parking section was in line with that taxiway (can't remember if it was or not) it would have had to be emptied of people for the duration of the performance. It was still very enjoyable but I did notice the avenger was noticeably quieter than other closer displays that we have had.
  6. My only complaint was the pa as well. From the public viewing area for the air show the pa commentary was totally inaudible! Still totally enjoyed it though:thumb up: As a side note I wonder if the airshow would be better if it started with the slower displays and then finished with the Paul Bennet, Matt Hall and Roulettes? After the Roulettes the other formations came across as bland! Paper plane comp was a winner with the kids:thumb up:
  7. I'm not sure where you are coming from? The big fence at narromine was only in the road of a few aircraft you could still quite happily wander through it to look at the static display aircraft.
  8. Lol Rob I don't like the idea of getting ramp checked by casa but I would much rather do that than have you check up on my whs compliance around the farm:roflmao:
  9. What a bunch of old sooks you are all turning into:amazon: For sure the big fence is a nuiscance but I would think it would be more to stop entry fee dodgers than the safety aspect after all it was only a two foot plastic fence that separated us from the air show. And yes way too many people are happy to jump a fence to avoid paying a few dollars without realising it only takes away viability from things they enjoy. As far as fly ins for the sake of a flyin, I am really on the fence with this and I think we all need to look at that realistically. If you want a national (not just a local one but a national event!) ultralight flyin that doesn't incorporate any family friendly activities you will eventually fail For a couple of reasons. Firstly after a year or two people will get sick of flying great distances just to kick the tyres and numbers will dwindle away (maybe we have seen this before but have selective memories?) unless you start to add little things to maintain interest like maybe a landing comp or maybe a neat circuit comp or maybe an air show oh wait, what? Secondly a dedicated no family activity flyin is even more reliant on weather, just looking at this years airventure as an example how many people just on this forum didn't go because of weather? If it had been a flyin flyin then I wouldn't have bundled my family up in the car and gone along with basically all the non flying in people there and with the weather as it was I wouldn't have flown over myself and when you add all the people up who would be in the same boat you really cut into numbers of attendees. Also, if it is just a flyin with no other events you have even less of a gaurantee of numbers attending so you won't get trade stalls reliably. Anyway there are probably more things to consider but that is enough to start with. We can't sook about aviation dying and sook about no youngsters taking up flying at the same time as sooking about family friendly activities like airshows! For sure the fences may be overkill and they certainly aren't at every event but I suspect it had more to do with money than safety and I think that is understandable if we want to make things feasible without bigger charges that would hinder numbers. I enjoyed my time over there today, my whole family enjoyed their day. Plenty of other folks I talked to enjoyed their time.
  10. Watch out for that green and yellow one! Or more importantly watch out for the owner! He is the owner of an amazing mind, it is such a pity he lost it:whisper:
  11. I would brag about how comfy and dry my bed was last night but I wasn't in it until 4ish and was out of it by 6:30:crying: on the bright side though I finished my tractor work last night and have now caught up with my spraying and as it is drizzling I am going to sneak back into bed until lunchtime:wink: and then double check the van contents and wait for the kids to get home. Anyway hope you dry out before too long:thumb up:
  12. I am going to do it dodgy this time Neil and find a spot along the track (not on dirt LOL been bogged before and won't do that again!) and then spend the day at narrowing and then head for home and find another spot on the way back. I will be the big fella with a wife and two kids in tow (6 yr old girl and 4yr old boy) I will be wearing a tshirt with some funny phrase on it (I will post here when I know which one)
  13. I have the Zulu 2s and have been very happy with them BUT nearly without exception the local aggies all use the Bose A20s and say that they stand up to the rigours better than the lighspeed Zulus. As I said I have enjoyed my Zulus and would recommend them but if I was buying again I would certainly look seriously at the Bose.
  14. I've got my van all hooked up ready to go. Planning on heading off as soon as the kiddies get home from school tomorrow and hoping to spend the day there Saturday.
  15. It might be worth a pm to @Oscar . I do believe he has repaired or is in the process of repairing a Jab airframe and I think he knows a bit about them (or at the very least would know where to get the right info you need)
  16. Oops, I can't remember what I wrote in this post but I apologise if it was offensive?
  17. Bulldust. It doesn't matter whether you are RAA or GA you can't expect to be able to hire aircraft everywhere. It is quite simple. There are plenty of options out there, you don't have to buy a plane or even purchase into a syndicate, you can join an active club that has aircraft available or you can find a school that is happy to hire out. Having said that if you are keen there are plenty of cheap ways to get into aircraft ownership if you are going to be flying regularly albeit obviously forgoing the latest plastic fantastic.
  18. I've only been wrong once since I got married! It has just gone on 11 years and I have been wrong constantly without fail so only the once:sad angel:
  19. For sure I expect my certificate to be recognised all across Australia BUT I certainly respect the right of any person or school to refuse to hire to me. I certainly wouldn't expect RAA to step in and force anyone to hire to me and I would be extremely disappointed in them if they did do that for me or anyone else. It is the flight schools business, it is the flight schools plane they can sit it in the shed and do nothing with it if they so desire. You are flogging a dead horse if you think it should be different. At the end of the day you just have to go to someone who will hire to you, if there is no one else within a cooee then that is tough but it is not unusual to have to travel to find a hire plane in the sticks.
  20. It might be against the spirit but we have to remember schools are businesses that need to remain viable or they won't be there at all and if we were to introduce rules that removed their right to refuse service I think that would be very dangerous. At the end of the day it is their aircraft to use as they seem fit. How would you like it if you owned an aircraft and anyone could hire it and you couldn't say no? That would be a huge blow to your rights.
  21. If it is their aircraft I would say that would be well within their rights.
  22. Well with that amount of crosswind and being gusty I would still be happy enough BUT I would use a lot less flap (if any) and err on the quicker side just to be safe. I wouldn't be as happy if I was using a super short strip though.
  23. I don't spend a long time looking at the ASI but I certainly look at it fairly often, it only takes a glance to know where it is at. On smooth days it doesn't get as much attention from me as you can maintain your attitude and it won't change a great deal, however I find on gusty thermally afternoons I find myself doing the quick glance every few seconds when on approach. I find if I try to hold the same attitude (in regards to the horizon!) on those thermally days my airspeed can bounce from too close to the stall to over flap extension speed pretty quickly what I do find though is refraining from excessive elevator movements keeps the airspeed a lot steadier even though the nose goes up and down a bit more. It's not a bad habit to have a squiz at the skidball every third or fourth glance too, it can be surprising how much we have our rudder inputs out a tad or a big tad!
