  1. What a terrific landing - even stayed on the centre line . regards :big_grin:
  2. G'day Cobber, I use Garmin Flightbook which is set up to read data from my GPS. You can however enter data manually. Coupled to Garmins Mapsource (which shows your tracks on a map overlay) it is a terrific tool. Your other option would be to set up a spreadsheet which could be configured to add up hours, distance, fuel used etc etc. regards
  3. Datum is set to WGS 84 regards
  4. If you come in too slow in the J160 it may well bite you. :yuk: It seems to drop quite quickly below 55 knots. I use an approach speed of 70 unless I'm alone and have very little fuel onboard, then I may come in at 65 (when conditions are smooth). 60 knots is too slow with the shorter wings. regards :big_grin:
  5. I think my Google Map is not quite accurate. :yuk: How do I check it When I enter a new waypoint on (Garmin) Mapsource and then go to Google Maps - it's not always that accurate - can be out 500 -700 metres. regards :big_grin:
  6. Whilst recently struggling with some over tight and worn out rubber donut thingys Trelleborg10PlyPete was watching a cobber ripping a good 2mm off the diameter of his wheels  when, as he watched the JabiruToTightRims spinning on the lathe, a brilliant thought struck him like a Wotax :yuk: conrod thru the crankcase. "Bloody Hell" :ah_oh: GobsmackedPete :nerd:said to himself. "That's it - no tyres needed." Grabbing a ruler, he quickly measure the rotating rim. Yes, it will fit.:thumb_up: Every one horse town in the country has a railroad, of which most are now unused. As luck would have it the Jabirue wheelbase was the same as the railway tracks. Geez I'm a genius said LeonadoDaPete as he placed his tyreless JabiChooChoo  onto the local railway track at Echooca. With a shower of sparks, and the rims squealing like a RootedRotax gearbox  the JabiruExpress blasted down the track and leaped into the air. Hundreds of JabiruMeToo  owners gleefully ripped of their tyres and followed in his wheel tracks. All over the country, unused railway sidings became the new airports of the Wreckreation community. :face and heart: IFRR trax was the new buzzword, and PioneerPete i_dunno also instigated the new "Get me there in bad weather" rule. "Trim just enough to get the front wheel 2 inches off the deck and stay on the rails at 100 knots" :ah_oh::ah_oh: Of course, CRASSA, the ANR and the ATSB were not impressed....... regards :big_grin:
  7. I have it from a very reliable source that the new J160D is the old J160C now built under the LSA rules. :ah_oh: This means that Jabiru can make modifications/improvements  with out the huge cost of re-certification under the "old" classification. I guess my J160C is now a collectors item. Ebay, here I come........:big_grin: regards :big_grin:
  8. I own a Jabiru J160c. Jabiru now list on their website a J160D. So whats changed - does anyone know regards :big_grin:
  9. Good. As a non ferral I'll come and listen. regards
  10. Right you blokes - go and find something constructive to do. Sheeesh! regards :big_grin:
  11. We had a situation here in Echuca about eight months ago when there were six :ah_oh: (yes, really) Gazelles all doing circuits. The only way to get into the air was to "steal" i_dunno the runway and make the aircraft on base/final to go around. Possession may be 9/10ths of the law, but it's only yours until someone takes it off you. Love this flyin' game! regards :big_grin:

    Tyre Change Due

OK girls and boys - thought I'd better let you all know how it all went. i_dunno Arrived at Marks, and after a few pleasentries  got down to it. We decided to remove disc brake rotors from the rims before attempting to remove tyres. Used the small tyre remover machine which generally does the ride on mower tyres. Worked a treat, loosened the beads sufficiantly to remove bolts and split the rims (with a bit of wriggling and jiggling). Bolted rims back together and shot around the corner to a mates machine shop and had him remove 1mm of the inside and outside of each rim. (A 2mm dia reduction). Said "thanks very much" paid him way too little (he wouldn't take anymore) and returned to say thanks to Mark and the Crew (I knew Mark would be insulted if I tried to pay him, so I left some light refreshment instead. You're a champion bloke Mark (like most Recreational Flyers). Got home and started to re-assemble the wheels. Separated the rims once again, taking care to mark the halves so they would go back the same way. Bolted on the rotors, and lubricated the tyre with liquid hand soap - worked a treat. (thanks Dieselten) Pushed the rear rim into the tyre - still a snug fit but after standing on the rim (not the rotor) it went in all the way. Flipped it over and inserted a new tube into the tyre, and hand pumped to partially inflate so as not to pinch the tube when inserting the other rim. Lubricate tyre bead, outside rim still a tight fit, but nothing like it would have been if not machined. Found a couple of 1/4" x 4" bolts with nice long threads - packed it with spacers and washers and pulled both halves of the rims together (very easy) so I could insert the original bolts. Presto - one tyre ready to go. Ditto second wheel. All done and dusted, Jabiru ready to go. Thanks to all who contributed on this thread. Big thankyou to Mark. regards :big_grin:
  13. You should have said "like spots on a Cheetah" regards :big_grin:

    Tyre Change Due

Yes, you're right (again) Tomo  - many thanks Graham. I've just returned from the airport with two Jabiru rims in need of a tyre change. :ah_oh: Why do I think that was the easy bit. :yuk: regards :big_grin:

    Tyre Change Due

OK Mark I'll be there (around 9.30) and I'll bring morning tea  (for the guys (and gals)) with me. Tomo - thanks for the links  - I do appreciate your support and encouragement. (Maybe we should hold a competition at Temora Natfly and see who can change a Jabiru tyre (equipped with a boy scout pocket knife, rusty philips head screwdriver and one metre of dental floss ) in the shortest time. Sometimes I can't help myself. regards :big_grin:

    Tyre Change Due

Yes - Yes - YES - TOMO Did all of that last time :yuk: - you can only get so close to the bead without destroying the rim. Rubber is very bendy stuff and the clamps just slip off (and I can't get the jaws of the vice close enough to pull off the bead from the rim). and double . ITS NOT FUN. However - your holes and bolts idea may have some merit. i_dunno:thumb_up::big_grin: regards :big_grin:
  21. There's plenty of good second hand Jabiru's out there for less than 40k. regards
