Light plane crash south west of Sydney 24 Jan 2024.
yampy replied to red750's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Reported as a 16 yr old male on first solo . The crash occurred late downwind or turning final for R/W 06 at Camden . The pilot had received clearance to make a full stop landing on 06 . -
Bonza are definitely not flying Dreamliners . They are flying B737MAX aircraft . The B737MAX would easily have the range to fly Busselton - Gold Coast with reserves , and they don’t fall into the “ junky, creaky, ancient 737’s” you refer to .

Agree absolutely with all your sentiments . I too know, and have flown with John on occasions . A top bloke and one of the most trustworthy of men . I understand he’s now out of hospital , and I wish him a continued recovery . -

I know the instructor very well . He’s an accomplished instructor of many years . The students claims don’t add up , any one who drives over 1 hr with “ bits coming out and blood coming out “ in my book has a loose interpretation of responsibilities and should reassess his suitability for pilot training . I hope John Taru makes a quick and full recovery , there’s not much focus on his welfare in the media . -

He also said it came down from 1500’ .. would be quite a climb rate on departure ! .. Ive heard from a good authority they were in the landing stage … one thing we know is that the stories are changing . -

The Jabiru came down within the circuit area of The Oaks airfield . I understand that one of the occupants has a hand injury and was transported to hospital by ambulance . The other occupant escaped with little or no injury . Dave C -
Any news on Wedderburn aircraft accident 26/12/22.
yampy replied to Geoff_H's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
I’ve flown from Wedderburn a few times , there are very few options when you experience a EFATO . I also know it was a 34deg day and it was a tailwind departure , not a good set of circumstances . -

Being reported on local Sydney news as a Glasair 11 .. Dave C -
That’s correct . A pilot friend of mine who held a ATPL and flew B 747’s had to do his 5 hrs to get his RAA cert.

Australia dumps troubled European-designed Taipan helicopters
yampy replied to red750's topic in Military Aviation
It may be a design fault , but isn’t the responsibility on the Aussie Government to research and acquire a machine that’s fit for purpose in the first place . The Australian Government has a poor record when it comes to making decisions regarding rotary winged machines , just look at the Tiger and who can forget the Kaman Sea Sprite fiasco . -
I’m not an airline economist , and I doubt if there are any on this site , but I do know that Alan Joyce CEO Qantas has stated many times that the DFW- SYD non stop service could only be operated profitably by a A380 . The DFW and LHR services were Qantas’s biggest earners , both operated by the A380 . They do need to be flown at almost max capacity , although that wasn’t always the case with DFW -SYD , but filling them was never an issue on those routes . Slots at LHR are rare and ultra expensive , so large capacity aircraft really come into there own at these airports , basically uplifting double the capacity of large twin aircraft .

It’s the only one in this livery . It was applied a week or so ago, and I assume a temporary one .

Can you post the link to substantiate those claims

The news clips showed both the 737 and Bae146 in the same story , typical new coverage . The aeroplane the NSW RFS is sending is a B737-300 named Marie Bashir reg N138CG . It scheduled to depart Richmond Airbase on its trans Pacific flight this morning initially routing Richmond - Pago Pago - Hilo with a call sign “ Coulson138 “

Mmmmm .. wonder if that’s why the pilot refused an interview -
Sometimes it takes a petite while for the penny , or Euro Cent to drop . I blame Ted Heath , wasn’t he the one who took us into the Common Market in the first place 😀

Incredible shot Phil. I wish I could take “ best of a bad job “ photos like that . I take it , it wasn’t taken in the midst of the Black Country 😀
-
I flew that one a few times some years ago . A nice little machine and great fun . It was “ hung “ from the hangar roof for many years not airworthy and may now be at Wedderburn , although not 100% about that . yampy

That’s very impressive Phil. He has some good gear . yampy
