The U2 is a regular visitor to RAF Fairford in the UK , where it often spends some time on detachment . There can often be a number of them there at any time .

Can't turn, Can't climb, Can't run: F35 problems
yampy replied to fly_tornado's topic in Military Aviation
The Super Hornet is definitely not being sold off to anyone . You have confused the Super Hornet with the classic FA18 model , a different bird completely . The Super Hornet is a new build state of the art aeroplane , while the FA18 is a 35 yr old job , and a much smaller airframe . Dave C -
I saw the TV report this morning . It is not true . That was definitely not the last Qantas 747 into SYD. it is true Qantas will cease all international operations at the end of the month , but until that time Qantas will continue to operate the 747 to Johannesburg and Santiago at least . The JNB to SYD flight is currently to the SW of Tasmania and the QF 27 to Santiago has recently departed SYD . I do wish these TV stations would get something right for once . Dave C

Storm Ciara at Heathrow Airport. (09/02/2020)

I was watching it live , as we were battening down the hatches here too . We had 200mm of rain and 47kts yesterday . Not a good flying day all round it seems . That presenter on the video gets carried away a bit hey . Money to be made on Youtube apparently. Here’s aerkid -
I have the same issue too .

It’s already started . Ryanair has 737 MAX aircraft sitting at the factory with the MAX titles replaced by 737-8200 . The vast majority of boarding passengers wouldn’t know what they were getting on anyway .

I saw this aeroplane at RAF Mildenhall , UK around the 1984 mark , it was resplendent in the characteristic all over red colour scheme . I believe it now lives at Old Warden Airfields in Bedfordshire and still flies regularly . I have attached a photo from Mildenhall . -

Foxbat down yesterday at my Base Airfeld
yampy replied to Phil Perry's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
It’s probably fortunate it was wheat and not a Canola crop . If it was Canola in full bloom the Foxbat would never have been spotted . -

Ian is haemorrhaging money in order to keep this site a viable asset . You , I, and Ian alike can’t sustain those losses . I congratulate him in exploring all avenues to provide us all with this valuable place . Yes it’s changed again , the alternative is no site at all . If you “ can’t take any more “ , then I say goodbye . Dave

End of the line for the PC-6 (after 60 years continuous)
yampy replied to Garfly's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Just bung on a bigger modern engine and call it a PC6 Max , problem solved . -
Also if it is relating to time , is it UTC or local time ? . If it’s UTC then it’s no worries , because it would be dark anyway , and hence no flying for Rec aircraft .

Aircraft in forced landing, Moorabbin

Phil . I hope you didn’t forget to shout “ four” ? -
There are several flight tracking apps , that will if you have the time and inclination show more details than ADS-B Exchange . I’ve just checked a PA28 nr Newcastle .ADS-B app didn’t show origin or destination , FR24 showed origin as Bankstown and FlightAware showed origin and destination . I didn’t manage to get a photo on ADS-B app but did on FR24 .

Components in the leading edge slat assembly not meeting manufacturing standards apparently. The FAA are to issue a Airworthyness Directive (AD) , directing all operators of the 737 Max and 737NG to conduct inspection and repair if necessary within 10 days . This will affect almost every operator of the 737 in Australia . Dave

Flying Out Of Australia To New Guinea OR Indonesia?
yampy replied to jackc's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Jack . I assume you are referring to flying an aircraft under an ultralight registration . As I understand it , and I stand corrected if it’s not the case , an aeroplane has to carry an ICAO registration in order to be flown internationally , in other words in the case of Australia a VH registration prefix . I’m led to believe that the Australian method of ultralight registrations , eg by a numerical prefix is not internationally recognised . As I say , perhaps someone else may be able to throw more light on the situation, and like you welcome further input . Dave
