Anyone had any experience in converting FAA licenses to CASA LAME etc. I am helping a family member who is looking into converting. Had a brief look on Casa website but not sure what to look for. Perhaps better off calling them up? Any input would be appreciated Cheers

Awesome...so 10000ft is only really 9500 flying hemispherical (east) and 8500ft going west as maximum altitude, correct?

I know this won't help you but I believe there is one in WA at Sky Sports,I think its the LS need to confirm. I really like the 305 kg usable weight, since I have been likened to brick s*!thouse it would be handy :)

Brett, congrats on your decision sounds like you're in for a wild ride :-D No doubt you will enjoy it and won't regret it well done -
Biggest difference for me when I did the conversion was the torque effect, keep on that right rudder else you'll find yourself in the weeds..and yes she got off the ground quick( get that nosewheel just off the ground asap) and accelerates fast so keep it in the white arc or you'll hurt the flaps. At safe height after you have cleaned up you can also reduce power to around 2700rpm (from memory) gives a more manageable climb/circuit speed etc. That six cylinder has plenty of grunt. I trained in the j160. Most procedures are similar except it happens quicker :) Bigger wings and smaller ailerons mieans bigger inputs to get the same result especially on a bumpy approach, floats a bit more than 160 but I find her easier to land. I have an old Sensenich prop inherited from my grandfather, I emailed the Sensenich Brothers factory with the serial number engraved on the back, turned out it was likely used on a pt-19 fairchild (1940 I think - will have to pull out the details again) which was used as a primary trainer in the USAAF Perhaps find any such details and contact the manufacturer if tbey are still around

had cfi waiting with camera to capture that stupid grin :D, then handshake and photo goes up on the wall of fame with all other solo students bearing same grin, nice for the logbook too

On my first area solo, I turned downwind 09 after making the call and immediately got a call from another J230 lining up rolling 27, got the nerves working a bit as it was first area solo but I made sure I kept him visual and extended downwind till he departed, also confimed intentions with radio calls, he climbed out like a homesick angel and I hardly had to extend by much - non event in the end but radio calls and visual makes life less stressful - important lesson :) Wind wasn't really an issue that day, slight crosswind on 09-27 so could've chosen either runway and no other aircraft around

Agreed E6B would be good, easy to use one handed in flight and once you get used to it its lightning fast, electronic ones need 2 hands generally and are slower, and they need batteries...

Welcome! I flew into richards bay once with a mate, I was passenger, we ordered burgers there but they had to make them from scratch, so we went out refuelled etc and I think it was at about 20 miles out after departure we remembered we forgot to collect the burgers, damnit it was a long flight back to Kruger we were starving! Anyway we radioed the boys in the tower and donated our burgers to them at least they got a free feed :)

Personally when I see the wedgetail Eagles I get a lump in my throat but thats just me,( i often hear stories of glider pilots sharing a thermal with a pair) as long as we don't end up disputing right of way :) would hate to have a half-live XXXXed off wedgy on my lap while I'm trying to go through my forced landing checks......
