  1. Yep, our 44 gal drums are what the Yanks refer to as 55 gal drums. 200 litres.
  2. "The reason why oranges are green in a tropical climate is because the weather rarely gets cold. Because of the lack of cool weather, the chlorophyll remains in the skin of the orange, keeping it green. When an orange is exposed to cool weather while still on the branch it turns to orange. And orange that is left on the tree can change between green and orange several times depending on the weather. This change of colors also means it’s impossible to tell if an orange is ripe. Fortunately for us, you don’t have to pay attention to if an orange is ripe. It remains ripe for a long time, even if left on the branch until the next season. The reason all of our oranges are orange in the store is because oranges are generally grown in subtropical areas, which means that they are exposed to cold weather. Oranges were able to give their name to the color because, most oranges are actually orange and not green." Ripe green oranges in the hot, Unripe orange oranges in the cold. Seems legit. ;)
  3. It's that sort of decision and story that makes things safer than an orange vest... I looked out the window, thought about driving up to Rangiora to see the airfield and chat to whomever may be there about training at their field, but saw low dull overcast and figured anyone with sense would be staying home. So I did too.
  4. Or head... I wouldn't want to stand up under the disc! It looks far too low, unlike normal commercial copters with the rotor height 8 to 10 feet off the ground, that looks lucky to make 5 feet.
  5. Fill them with Helium and you won't need wings
  6. It's apparently in a private email... Save it to your desktop and use the "Upload a File" button next to the "Post Reply" button on the lower right of the reply dialog box.
  7. That's just 50 shades of grey style solo style....
  8. many councils seem to require an architects sign off on non-pre-consented houses that are not of a "Standard" format that their inspectors can check in their sleep. Despite engineers being involved in the design and materials selection.
  9. You mean the ones that varnish turds and put condoms over religious statues of virgins? That's like saying Stomach Cancer is as good as Liver Cancer...
  10. I had my bum in a seat as a primary schooler... now I'm working on nice days and when I have time off to think about heading up to an airfield and finding an instructor and free plane, it's not flying weather... But it's back to that primary school time in a B22 Bantam.
  11. I'd rather have a Materials Engineer help translate an Artists dream into a workable design than an Architect. All an architect is is an artist who can't do art crossed with a wanna engineer who failed the entrance exams.
  12. Maybe not Only, but certainly Primarily. There are plenty of spectacular extravaganza type shows. the likes of Wings over the Waiarapa and Warbirds of Wanaka here in NZ that cater to the non-flying crowd.
  13. Oshkosh is the worlds biggest flying, (I think), and it is ALWAYS held at the EAA headquarters in WI. Do you believe that is fair to the flyers in CA or WA or FL who would have to make long cross country flights to get there, over or around the likes of the Seirra Madres or the Rockies? It may not be Fair, but that doesn't stop it being Successful. It has consistency, everyone knows where and when it will be and can make plans around those facts.
  14. Agnosticism is the absence of Belief, Atheism is the opposite of belief. while Mriya takes it a bit more considered and wordy than I was in a quick reply, it is pretty accurate.
  15. Looks like I was right about Dimona HK36 and you were right about Airbourne Research. adding the two terms got this: http://www.airborneresearch.com.au/pdf/TriAnnualReport.pdf Page 113, section 5 "Major Assets" 2 DA HK36TTC-ECO Dimona VH-EOS & VH-OBS
  16. Google Images "Motor Glider" and winnowing through the multiple likelies, the most similar seems to be a Dimona HK36 T series motorgliders. http://www.touringmotorgliders.org/photopost/data/525/medium/diamond_hk36_mpp_super_dimona_1_by_dan_s_t-d595dwz.jpg http://www.comegliding.com.au/images/ac/new2.jpg http://tailwheelersjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Brian-in-HK-cropped.jpg
  17. Atheism is actually a religious belief... it relies on Faith that there is no God, not evidence. For all they know, there could be a God and he's just hiding from them. Agnosticism now, that is a bit different. A decision to believe or disbelieve AFTER evidence shows up to convince them one way or the other. No faith involved.
  18. [Tongue inserted into cheek] You could always hold it on Lord Howe island, I'm sure they would like the tourist dollars, and it IS part of Aussie with a decent runway. [Tongue removed from cheek]
  19. Looking at the GE90 test flight on the 747 while certifying it during design stage, I wonder if they could make a twin engine 747? (I clicked through to one of the other suggested videos at the end of the video above.)
  20. If they're anything like NZ here, they could well be bona fide, but a lot of them farm fert strips only used a few weeks of the year and 90% of the time covered with sheep...
  21. How many turtles does it take to change a light bulb? One, for the elephants to stand on to reach the ceiling fixture.

  23. That Questionable Intelligence TV show?
  24. So does that make him a magnificent man?
  25. Some frilly little ancillaries are different. Look at the vertical tail design, but at a certain level, function really does define form.
