  1. You're kidding?, so what is the figure for whatever you class as a PPL holder then? Over here the Microlight/Light Sports pilots fly a lot more than the full on GA pilots and I don't think any class as low as 3 hour PA, in fact you'd lose your rating with hours that low.
  2. Airports or airfields?, and who owns and funds their upkeep? (Moneybox states airfields) Interesting either way as there is no airfield/airport in my country that doesnt charge handsome fees to keep an aircraft on their premises. Are you charged landing fees or some other movement charge at these 3 'airports'
  3. Eh?, were you expecting it to be free?
  4. I used to think we had an over abundance of bureaucracy here in the UK, but reading the machinations on here makes me almost feel blessed
  5. Apologies if most are already familiar with the story of this incredible Lady .... the Ercoupe pic in the silly forum reminded me and I thought maybe this would help inspire a student who was struggling a bit as to what is possible if you really want to do it.
  6. If you can drive a car, you can fly an airplane.” That's what advertisements from the Engineering and Research Corporation said about the Ercoupe, a plane you purchased from a department store and was once billed as the Ford Model T of airplanes
  7. They also had huge 'runways' to get off
  8. Had a locally made wood prop (Newton) with that type of leading edge, went through a few light showers with no visible harm. Only had the aircraft for 200 hours (prop was new when I got it) but the prop looked good after that amount of time. Wood props do require care in installation and do tend to go out of balance with moisture changes. Good practice is to always leave parked with blades horizontal (assuming 2 blade as most are) don't leave out in the blazing sun without some protection and take care not to crush the hub when installing or damage the finish as this lets moisture in
  9. What a wonderful name for an aerodrome
  10. I have nothing to do with this video just sharing it as I enjoyed it. A refreshing change from the usual over dramatised videos that seem to proliferate.
  11. The jabiru aircraft, I've seen in the UK have had a wooden props branded "GT" I don't know if this is the in house brand. Possibly an alternative to look at?
  12. The attempt to blame Brexit is rather pathetic, it wasnt going anywhere
  13. Yep, I reckon there is just one dark skinned person there possibly 2. but I done with this nonsense.
  14. There is a solution called RIPS (Recorder Interrupted Power Supply) that gives a 10 minute or so independent power backup to the FDR and CVR, Im not aware of how widely its been deployed, but there is definitely a case to be made for its fitment
  15. Bs, that's exactly what you hinted
  16. Often the same thing, dependent only on your opinion of what is and isnt mindless.
  17. I don't know if there is any nice way to pop your cloggs but if there is it isnt this way. Poor fuckers must have been desperate
  18. I guess the nearest we have to part 103 is the Single seat deregulated category But...you need to have a valid pilots Licence, its only the aircraft that is deregulated The only category in UK that does not require a licence is the sub 70kg class which consists mostly of powered parachutes and some very lightweight flexwings, I'm not aware of any fixed wing 3 axis aircraft that have made it in that class, it would be no mean feat to design one. Below is an example of what you can get into the SSDR class with a little imagination ... https://speleotrove.com/sirocco/G-2DROCO.html
  19. Thank you Captain Obvious, though I believe you mean Turbine
  20. The willingness to embrace and use AI is becoming dangerous, I think its a lot to do with the general laziness of people especially GenZ and younger whose general fecklessness brought about by poorly guided parenting and education fit into this perfectly it will bite hard. When people who were in the vanguard of AI development start worrying its time to pay attention (most people wont of course) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-65452940
  21. One visits my Local airport from time to time when they have too many Skydive bookings for the resident Caravan to manage alone. It seems very capable but I'm unsure how quickly it can descend for the next lift compared to the Turbine birds, never actually sat there and timed the 2
  22. Have you considered hydraulic?, there are dome model systems available. you could use a jack at both ends in master- slave setup closed system. These maybe too small but perhaps a suitable size exists https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005271846749.html?src=google&pdp_npi=4%40dis!GBP!32.37!15.69!!!!!%40!12000032437709688!ppc!!!&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=494-037-6276&isdl=y&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&aff_platform=google&aff_short_key=UneMJZVf&gclsrc=aw.ds&&albagn=888888&&ds_e_adid=&ds_e_matchtype=&ds_e_device=t&ds_e_network=x&ds_e_product_group_id=&ds_e_product_id=en1005005271846749&ds_e_product_merchant_id=661157906&ds_e_product_country=GB&ds_e_product_language=en&ds_e_product_channel=online&ds_e_product_store_id=&ds_url_v=2&albcp=17859500389&albag=&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI45novJDjigMVqZlQBh3MTQDDEAQYByABEgLu7vD_BwE
  23. Not having that for one minute, Nev is the one who frequently gets his panties in a bunch when someone counters his opinion with a different one.
  24. Don't let the resident 'expert' put you off. A properly installed and not-leaking pipe placed as you describe in the Koala should present no nasty niffs except perhaps a bit at start up before you get some airflow around your craft. The whole reliability thing with 2 - strokes, well I've only a couple hundred hours behind a 503 so all I can say is that perhaps they arent as care free to operate as the 912 and the cranks dont last too long 300-ish hours after which its wise to monitor the big end play (not hard with the right tool) and have a look at the piston skirts through the exhaust port, if they have a partial seizure its often evident at this spot. I've far more experience of off road motorcycle 2 strokes but I'll not muddy the waters with comparisons
  25. You mentioned that the failure involved the electronics or a limit switch, both possibly susceptible to vibration damage
