  1. If there was a choice, would you own an Aeropower or Rotax engined GA55 / GR582 lightwing? Thoughts from those who have flown or maintained this type much appreciated. Thanks
  2. Ross, good to the accident/incident briefs are now on the Webb site. I know you and I have been pushing for this for a very long time. Cheers
  3. In my situation, the aircraft was weighed on scales used for aircraft weighing and the figs were sent to a WCO and a Cert issued prior to issue of a Special CofA.
  4. It seems that the Instructors have been "guided" by the CAAP..... 4.4 To be a successful collaboration, the person undergoing the review and the assessor have a shared responsibility. This responsibility requires an honest statement of the flying activities that have been undertaken over the past two years, and more importantly an indication of what type of flying the pilot anticipates performing during the next two years. CASA recommends the inclusion of a navigation exercise in each flight review. In determining whether to conduct a navigation exercise the assessor should take into account if the previous flight review included a navigation exercise. The assessor should then plan an appropriate flight review for the pilot’s prevailing circumstances, and be willing to commit time and effort to identify deficiencies in skills and knowledge, and then to provide remedial instruction and advice as required. Most of the pilots I know who have done an AFR recently have done a short cross country as described in my earlier post. I think CASA have been pushing the issue at CFI seminars. Cheers
  5. Would be nice to see these OLDer aircraft go onto a "Permit to Fly " system like they have done in the UK. Much easier and cheaper to maintain. Aus / NZ don't seem to want to go down this track with aircraft like the Auster.
  6. MOST GA BFR's are now conducted by doing a small cross country exercise (usually about two hours). My last review (CPL) was out of Sunshine Coast airport (class D so clearance required) to Gympie with touch and go, to overhead Maryborough then return to Sunshine coast. During this last leg we did some upper air work then a simulated forced landing onto Tin Can bay airstrip then the Class D arrival. I am sure that IF the candidate is up to speed then the instructor doing the review would sign the log book. He is NOT issuing a licence or rating.
  7. Hi Mark, good report on the Sav and glad you are happy with the mods you did while out of the air. I am sure you will sort the pitot problems in due course. The hangar earth works look good. I will have to take a flight out there to check progress. Talk soon. Cheers
  8. Thanks Poteroo. will see if we get any further leads. Cheers Mike
  9. Thanks Poteroo. will see if we get any further leads. Cheers Mike
  10. Does anyone know if there is still an SNS-8 Hiperlight at Boonah (Blue in colour) and if it is flown? Owner contact details via PM appreciated. Thanks in advance
  11. Tks. The number given is now for a mobile diesel breakdown service to the mining industry. Info on the website was correct way back in 1999.
  12. Are Aeropower engines still being produced? I believe they were / are in Perth. Any contact info appreciated. Cheers
  13. Why back to 400kg? All others appear to be 450 (aero power) or 480 (912). This whole thing is confusing. Still can't see the difference between 25 and 55 registered. Cheers
  14. What is the difference between a Lightwing GR912 that is 25 registered and a 55 registered version?
  15. Interesting reading..... http://airfactsjournal.com/2014/04/skycatchers-death-proves-lsa-rule-failure
  16. This thread is now way off topic.
  17. Can anyone here explain to me what is involved in the xray of metal components on older rag and tube aircraft and how this is done. I am thinking Piper aircraft (Tripacer etc) where wing struts (if not sealed) and other areas of the structure have to be carried out periodically. Who can do this and is it of a NDT nature? Thanks in advance.
  18. Many thanks Fred. Yes have CPL with current BFR/ class 1 Medical. Will talk with Max Jackson (Hinkler Flying School) here at Bundy. Cheers
  19. Similar situation here - 100's of hours in tail wheel aircraft including multi engine (DC3). Guess I will have to find a J3 or Light wing somewhere to get the TW added to my certificate. Cheers
  20. Yes he is Matty. Also looking at doing the flying part of the Bundy Uni Av course. Cheers
  21. And the same if renewing with aviation ID via the CASA site.
  22. CASDA use Aviationidaustralia to do all their ASIC/AVID and I believe a few dollars cheaper but you HAVE to go to aviationidaustralia via the CASA link
  23. And there I have a problem in that the aircraft were/are built in a factory and RAAus have now registered them 19/experimental something that can't be done if not 51% built by the builder. I think RAAus have done this to get themselves out of a hole. My pennies worth on this one.
  24. I believe the owner decided to keep the aircraft and get her registered and flying. Cheers
  25. Yes NZ. Only need serviceable transponder and ultralights can operate in NZ CTA.
