  1. Class "A" airspace is above FL180 so probably not that important for most of us sport pilots either VFR or IFR.
  2. Is Is the airport registered it certified? Makes a difference re CASA aerodrome requirements. I was ARO for Argyle aerodrome in the Kimberley for 6 years. Mike
  3. Nev, re-read post 32. I asked for a reference to the now 600kgs limit for RAAus then asked why we can't have a simple registration system. I didn't ask to have the weights changed from what the designer / manufacturer set. In an earlier post, Maj quoted his aircraft weights (GR912) then the factory POH weights for the same aircraft. The 480kg MTOW for the 912 lightwing was due to the CAO of the time but appears the factory are happy to have the aircraft go to a higher MTOW due design testing. If an aircraft is amateur built and puts on weight (Jabiru as you quote) then that builder will just have a reduced payload. MTOW does not change. Mike
  4. What is the CAO (if any) that allows RAAus aircraft (not just LSA) to operate to a MTOW of 600kg? Why can't all the previous CAO's 95-25, 55 101-55 etc be revoked. If an aircraft was factory built including single seaters then re register 24-xxxx and allow a MTOW to a figure set by the manufacturer based on the design testing. If amateur built then register 19-xxxx also to the max design weight or 600kg. This would save a lot of confusion that exists. Mike
  5. G G'day Riley, just google his name in Grange SA. He is a Vet and his number is there. Cheers Mike
  6. Maybe Ian Baker (owner of this site) would like to give us some ideas of costs for a server to do what RAAus is running. Mike
  7. Try calling Philip Ritchie (Vet) who lives in Grange in SA. He may be able to shed some light as he is building a Celebrity. http://ffpcelebrity.wordpress.com/2011/10/23/introduction/ Cheers Mike
  8. Model is "Trail". Nice aircraft and as you say is not too pricey. It is tandem seated which some won't like. Mike
  9. The RV9/A cruises 160+ kts and is still flying at 40 kts. The RV9/A wing is longer and narrower than the 6/7 models and has a greater tail plane span giving plenty of elevator authority even at very low speeds. The aircraft is NON aerobatic.
  10. Try Orchid beach airstrip on Fraser Island. There is a landing fee (paid at shop) and is parallel to the beach. Cheers Mike
  11. I think those same questions are on the form that has to be filled out when doing a class 1/2 medical IF my memory serves me right.
  12. This thread has gone from Mark's original question re a suitable aircraft for the RPL to a medical discussion. Back to topic PLEASE.
  13. Depends on what engine you are looking at Mark. If Lyc o320 or similar then there is the Murphy Rebel to name one. Maybe the Piper Cub variants but these are tandem seated. Not sure Denise would like looking at the back of your head for hours on end though. Cheers Mike
  14. HI Maj, is this the aircraft that was / is for sale on Gum tree up near Cairns? That one was being advertised as built by Bill.
  15. Neil Hintz, the NZ manufacturer of reduction drives for Subaru engines has a new 2 stroke 80 hp engine under development.
  16. Some may know the method, but how are you testing for Ethanol?
  17. No. Do a GA AFR and submit copy of log book entry to RAAus and you will have same validity on your Pilot Cert. I recently did this.
  18. RAAus will accept the GA BFR. A GA AFR HAS to be carried out in a VH registered aircraft and conducted by a grade 1 or 2 instructor. The VH registered aircraft can be experimental. The AFR should be done in the aircraft type that most of the applicants flying will be done in.

    GA or RA

NO annual re-registration either. Once registered that's it.
  20. [quote="DonRamsay, post: 443844, member: 9162" Must be embarrassing for CASA people to come back and deliver much the same lecture nearly a year later. Still, we can ask any question we like and they are usually pretty good at giving a definitive answer. And I have found that if the CASA Team are not 100% sure of something they have got back with an answer by email. Can't ask for more than that.
  21. I would like to know that if you had a choice of early ALW Lightwings (GA/GR), would you choose one fitted with the Rotax 582 or the Aeropowered version?
  22. Has the SIDS maintenance programme been completed? I understand this is required for ALL Cessna aircraft regardless of registration type I.e. GA or RAAus. SIDS have to be completed by Dec 2016 to remain airworthy.
  23. Again its good see the "Jab" fuselage is intact. They certainly are strong in that area. Glad both occupants are ok. We await the reason for the forced landing.
  24. Is it not the case that a glider has a duplicate inspection every time the wings are put back on after being broken down to trailer???
