Shipping/Freight Forwarding Representation USA to Aus
ave8rr replied to Riley's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Hi Riley, sorry to read that C & H Freight have not come good on their end of the bargain. I have used them for importing bits from Rans in Kansas and all arrived at my door on time and in the quoted price. I have not heard of anyone using them to import a complete aircraft. Mike -
Pilot Licence or Certificate - Sports Pilot Dec14
ave8rr replied to coljones's topic in Governing Bodies
Unless there has been a change in the new Ops Manual then to get a pilot certificate a GA licence holder is required to do 5 hours in an ultralight made up of some dual and solo flying. -
Pilot Licence or Certificate - Sports Pilot Dec14

I believe in NZ GA pilots can fly ultralights as long as they take some dual and are issued a rating (endorsement) on type. No issue with registration as ALL aircraft in NZ are registered ZK-xxx and are either a class 1, (single seat) 2 (two seat) or LSA. Those aircraft will have a MTOW of 600Kgs or less. There is NO requirement to belong to a microlight organisation of which there are two in NZ to my knowledge. -
Tomo, would be interested in what indicated power off stall speed you are getting with say two up and what you would consider was a minimum (grass) field length. I have been looking at a 160hp Pacer. I have 400m strip with another 200m clear approach. Cheers

CASA - Draft Proposal for Jabiru Aircraft
ave8rr replied to slb's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
What has VFR cruising levels and flight in CTA got to do with the topic of this thread? -
I thought the original Jab had a KFM but Jab had to come up with a new motor when KFM pulled the plug.

My RV9A was first registered in 2008 and has never had under wing markings due exemptions in place back then. Cheers Mike

Where are the aircraft located and what are contact details? -
Tks for the info Downunder. I wonder how many "privately operated" 912's have actually had this test done annually?? RAAus will soon require the figs to be recorded on Tech Form 023/4 stroke or 024/2 stroke and held in the log books for all engines. Perhaps Ian should sell the equipment in his "online store" Mike
-
Annual inspection cylinder leak check. What sort of equipment will a L 1 servicing his/her privately operated ultralight engine require to comply with the leak check reading / recording. This work is carried out by my LAME on our RV9. Looks like a lot of engines will now require the assistance of a LAME at each annual unless they purchase the necessary equipment.
-
RAAus Nov news letter is suggesting that if an engine manufacturer does not have an "on condition" maint schedule then the engine should be overhauled once it reaches it's TBO or Calendar time. Do I read this correctly? If that is correct then there will be a lot of 912's for overhaul that may only have a few hours on them.

I see the requirement to display underwing rego numbers will be removed with the issue of the new Tech manual. Ref RAAus monthly email to members. Mike

CASA - Draft Proposal for Jabiru Aircraft
ave8rr replied to slb's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
dazza, I think there is still a lot of R&D going on with the Camit engine. There are still less than thirty 3300's out there and less than half doz 2200's. There are also a few Jab plated engines with Camit mods. Not sure of numbers. Would be nice to know how many of the 3300's are operating outside Aus? -

CASA - Draft Proposal for Jabiru Aircraft
ave8rr replied to slb's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Having followed the for and against re CASA's "draft" order in relation to Jab engines, it might be worth reading the article and watching the inflight video that eventually saw a Kununurra Tourist operator grounded. http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/the-law-of-the-bungles-grounds-unruly-alligator-20120608-201bm.html It was also safety concerns that has seen Tiger airways, Av8 in Darwin and a Cairns charter operator all recently grounded and except for Tiger eventually wound up. In the case of Alligator the owner was the chief engineer. They had at least three emergency landings due IO540 fuel pump issues at an aerodrome I was managing. I have owned both a J200 and a J160 over the years and both aircraft had "top overhauls" at between 100-150 hours time from new costing thousands. The airframes are great in my opinion. -
AVDATA don't collect for ALL aerodromes. Some airport operators send out their own invoices. I do like Avdata as you receive one invoice showing times and places of landing and that Operators fee.
-
A Anything to do with maint should be in the Tech Manual.
-
The displaying of Rego Numbers (what is to be required) will be in the new Tech Manual so I am informed. Mike
-
Why should RAAus have to spend time forwarding on landing fee bills?? Let Avdata have the Register so they can collect what is owed.
-
You will have that endorsement having been flying the type. I do not have any 2 stroke time so I would do an endorsement on the type that is fitted with a 2 stroke e.g. GR582 lightwing, Drifter or XAIR etc on completion of the required training. Mike

The CEO advises that the list has been temporarily removed due out of date and has asked for what purpose it (Register) is used for and that they are currently reviewing web site content. Mike

I see the Aircraft "Registrations" file is not available on the RAAus web site. Has the Register been removed or having a long over due update? Mike
