  1. Privately owned airfields are something that is covered by law. One can argue about their their individual restrictions as much as much as you like (agree or not) but the original post is about RAA buying/managing airports is just fanciful which ever way you look at it. Just not going to happen Australia wide.
  2. I wouldn't rush into conclusions from press reports - emergency services had to travel 45km to the site.
  3. After reading the 2012 report, it shows in the detail that there is no justification. Have a look at the rest of Australia and traffic density - the fact stand on their own. It would appear the in crowd from Canberra area want something for themselves, forget the rest of Australia - does that sound familiar!!!
  4. I would heed Nevs advice here as Nobody knows what is happening with the new autocratic admin. We all hope for an improvement but many expect otherwise, before a major re-takeover, but many still support the current political style approach.
  5. If a pilot can't handle 15kts of Xwind in a C172 at 0 and up to 40° of flap then they shouldn't be solo, period!
  6. We are an Australian wide organisation (although sometimes one could be forgiven for thinking otherwise) Purchasing & maintaining an airfield in ACT or even Vic could hardly be pushed as "collective good". Time will tell, but I suggest our organisation is heading into dangerous or at least worrying times.
  7. From the president - " I am knocking about an idea I’ve had to put together a proposal asking for members to contribute to an airport fund" REALLY! As I no longer get Sport Pilot I was only recently made aware of this article by others. It is a prime example of a centralist attitude to the current administration. An airport (completely ignoring the expense) in the ATC might be of use to a handful of members, but Australia is a big place and of NO interest to many/most. For those, like me, who no longer get Sport Pilot, it is worth reading this article to see the direction being taken or proposed - no wonder the big push was to get rid of regional representatives. I wonder how long before director fees come up, as was included with the change. Welcome to the Canberra Aero Club. To think it has anything to do with buying airports all over Australia is - well just fanciful.
  8. Can no longer be bothered downloading it for free, as far as paying extra for it - well I won't even go there.
  9. Arguing with a left wing greenie is like trying to have a sensible discussion with Hanson-Young, some people still believe it is achievable.
  10. Bruce If you expect a considered reply from the now "Canberra Aero Club" I wish you luck.
  11. Always remember <5000ft in class G, radio is not mandatory - so lookout is important.
  12. By Australian standards it shouldn't be that critical - consider the fixed reserve plus the 10% & 15% variable reserves as applicable to the particular flight.
  13. Very relevant point - not just related to a stall warning device.
  14. Read what Bruce said about running an engine out of fuel. In relation to your last comment, no I don't but if you take your information from the late Ross, I have no further comment as he can't defend his statements (even though they were false and legal action was in process until his incident). I have no interest in continuing any discussion with a remaining member of the committee of 6.
  15. Absolute BS, if for maintenance purposes I turn the fuel off to drain the carby, it is not an incident it is a deliberate action and not a reportable incident- different if you run out of fuel whilst flying. Get real.
  16. Frank Had some success , although not 100%, with hanging a couple of CDs from the entrance and exit on my open ended hangar.
  17. It is interesting to read the various views on checklists - especially in simple SE aircraft. I must confess I have never used one (in any aircraft) but on a flight check some years ago the testing officer stated that CASA now requires one - so being a good little boy I made one from the POH and put it in my aircraft door. Although I haven't seen it since I am sure it would still be there should "an authorised officer" want to see one.
  18. Equally applies with the current RAA situation unfortunately
  19. No idea of the identity of the alleged offender or the evidence likely to be presented, merely suggesting that if an individual is convicted that the likely penalty on current history is likely to be less then public expectation.
  20. Just wait for the pissweak penalty that will most likely be issued V the max under law!
  21. Try CAR 7 (d) ; : Private operations (With the rash of rule changes I am only guessing this is still current) (iv) aerial photography where no remuneration is received by the pilot or the owner of the aircraft or by any person or organisation on whose behalf the photography is conducted;
  22. It might be easier to "understand" (whether you personally agree with the regs or not) if you look from an intent perspective - to seperate PVT flying from any commercial activity. For recreational flying we certainly do not want the costs applied that are involved with running a commercial operation - been there done that.
  23. Short answer. NO read def of AWK (includes photography) RAA limited to PVT only, apart from training.
  24. There is none YET, but stand by for GA Mark 2 with the current we know better approach.
