  1. Yes Bob I painted the Girlfriend here at home and didnt do it with a rotisserie at all...I used a epoxy primer that set hard as a rock and was a nightmare to sand...the painting nearly broke my resolve. I was going to do it again but with a rotisserie but if this guy is pretty good it is worth paying him to do it. The side benefit of course is now knowing someone who can do a good job and doesnt charge a fortune. If I can get my aircraft painted for 2.5K or less it would be worth every penny. Means I can get Mabel flying faster and The Mistress started quicker as well. Yes its a win win 🙂
  2. Well I got the carport made...pretty pleased with it actually for $1000...lots of sweat though. Its been really muggy and hot up here this past few weeks so I have been squelching in my shoes while building it. Now the good and bad news....bad news...well not so bad. I have a nice long carport for the new Triton so can get all my vehicles finally under cover. It wont be used as a spray booth though. You know the old someone who knows someone etc..we my mate Danny has come up with another good one. Turns out he has a business customer that restores old car classics and this guy has a full blown pro spray booth at his house only about 5km away from here. He has a you panel beater /spray painter he keeps busy all the time there basically gainfully employed most of the time but there are times he is struggling to keep him. He doesn want to lose him apparently he is pretty good. So he lets this young guy do "foreigners" in the spray booth there and this young guy only charges 25 bucks an hour. He has had experience with aluminium prep and painting. So I will supply the paint which I already have and he will do all the work. Sounds damn fine to me...so he will paint Mabel..then my old Iveco van which has spent the last 15 outside will get a rust and quick make over..then of course the RANS will get done. My granddaughters old Supra needs a respray and Danny has 2 planes as well for him to do...so hopefully we can keep him gainfully employed and it saves me a ton of work and time for a very very reasonable cost...winner winner chicken dinner. So I had built a wooden rotisserie to paint the fuselage but I wasnt happy with it..turns out my boss at work has a proper one fully adjustable for cars...its a oldie and had plenty of work but a little TLC which I did tonight on it when I got it home today and it looks like it will be great. So I will make the attachment mounts tomorrow hopefully and it will be ready to put some temporary wheels on it and I can get it over the painter. Danny has a rotisserie he made for Savannah wings so we will use that. Its a single ended one so the root of the wing attaches to the rotatry part and the wing is held up by the wing strut. I will get the painter to do all the smaller parts like tail feathers etc first. The only problem I have now is to decide on my paint scheme
  3. Until they get the battery technology far better you wont see them in aircraft....not only the length of time available in the air is the issue but then its charging. If you fly out west you just cant plug it into a tree. You need a good base powersupply to be able to plug in your charger..the more capacity you require in your battery for time of flight then it totally depends on charge time..Charge time depends on how quickly the battery can accept the charge and of course you need a powersupply supply good enough to supply that rate of charge. No good flying somewhere then have to overnight or spend 2 days to get enough charge in the battery to go the next part of your trip. I think it will still be a long time before we see any improvement in this Dont get me wrong...I would love to see electric powered aircraft but I still think I will be pushing up daiseys before it happens
  4. Died a death like most of these unconventional designs
  5. Sorry fellas..we made a real crapola job of that proposal...think we better go back and maybe take out thumbs out our bums and actually think about it before putting foot in mouth again
  6. Far better off using 48v battery bank..more efficient Use grid connect solar panels cheaper than 24v pnes amd more prolific I use 1 grid connect 200watt panel to a MPPT controller and it charges 10 batteries in all my farm equipment...I dont have flat batteries any more
  7. I read that document and yes I think they have done a great job of telling ASA what a bunch of numpties they are
  8. Later on after fitting that fuel manifold I got a right angled barb fitting and put it into the right side end of that block and fitted another tap to it and bought my fuel return to it. That way I could turn the fuel return on and off and because it went to the fuel block it did not fill up one tank it just went as usuable fuel The main wire from the battery which in mine was right down the back of the aircraft was quite heavy...maybe 4 or 5 gauge in your terminology. It was a long run so I had to make sure it was heavy enough. The positive was larger than the negative as the negative was a parallel really because it was connected to the frame at the battery. I will look to see if I have any pictures..as I sold the aircraft late last year. This new rebuild I am doing I will only have 2 taps for fuel as I have totally remade the tanking system even though I have 4 tanks but the fuel return will come back to the manifold like I did later to stop the overflow of the tank The new tank system you can see on the S rebuild blog Mark
  9. Yes get rid of all Alu cables and replace with copper...also the only earth to the frame for the battery negative ICP do at the battery and they rely on the alu fuselage to provide the path...this is just bad !!! run another earth wire from the battery negative as well as keeping the original...run the other negative to the engine...bolt on the back of the start or somewhere else..it has been proved that not having a direct earth will/can stuff the sprag clutch in the engine as the engine doesnt turn just quite as fast as it can
  10. Waraton I think you may have hit the nail on the head..never even thought of that...they are testing delivery drones in Brisbane now
  11. What does make me laugh at this is if it goes ahead then effectively you are in CTA......so just fitting a transponder is not the only thing...how many RAA pilots have CTA endorsements...does this mean that ok I get my transponder and then I have to get a CTA endorsement as well because I am now allowed in Class E airspace?????
  12. Such a simple mod too I have a EFIS so obviously i can put the level marks where I like with programming but I like to have a analogue ASI in my aircraft as a backup...and I just have the normal arcs set to my speeds but I do like that tape line right across the gauge...i will be doing that to it. Super simple idea that I am sure will save lives
  13. The antenna issue with the SE2 of course will be some requirement to the specs they had to build/design the device to by the relevent FAA or CASA or the Brits. It says in their paperwork that no mods are allowed but we all all know that to get the most out of something it needs to be modified usually 🙂 if you keep the SE2 plugged into the USB supply it will stay powered and the battery doesnt go flat of course
  14. HF...I wouldnt be to concerned about rushing out and getting a transponder thats for sure. This Class E clusterf**k will not get up because it is even too far ridiculous for even someone like CASA to approve. Save your pennies...well at this stage
  15. Well it certainly appears so with all the reports back
  16. Totally agree No one though has reported any real extra fuel consumption but that is because their original prop has been set up the same
  17. Hi Bob It depends on how you setup your prop. A fixed pitch prop needs to be setup differently to a variable pitch prop. JG did his tests as per a variable pitch prop setup and this is why you see little difference between all the props he has tested. The Eprop is setup differently being fixed pitch...how it is setup is how I setup my original Bolly and how everyone I know basically...setup up their props. When you set it up like that you get much better perofmance than before with a different prop setup the same. So all things being equal the Eprop outperforms every prop so far...over 20 props now fitted and not one customer who has said it wasnt worth every cent in the extra perfomrance they have now. I cant say anymore than that really..the proof of the pudding is in the eating
  18. Yes thats a perfect example of what can be done now with EFB and smart software writing and devices just like the SE2 This literally makes the SE2 part of a TABS device available for reasonable cost ASA surely cant be that poorly run that they can not see these potential devices will also save them time and energy when aircraft are not withing the high traffic areas
  19. Yes I watch all of Mark Patey's videos...He is unbelievable in what he can do and achieve..then again limitless pockets almost helps you do that. Do yourself a favour Skippy and subscribe to Mike Patey's youtube channel..its worth it I have learnt a lot more about glassing and other stuff from his videos. As far as not hearing from me...some of us still actually work you know so sometimes it can be a day or two until I see whats been posted...other times I can fire back straight after you post. I do not profess to know all the maths involved all I know is what I see with my own two eyes. So yes what you think should work to your eyes and brain doesnt necessarily do so....The first time I saw the Eprop blades I couldnt believe they had the rapp that so many have given them...well so far everyone who has them now has a marked improvement in performance...so thats all I have to say on blade shapes...except for asthetics...the rest of it I leave up to much smarter people than myself
  20. You could always stick this prop on your faeta and see how it goes 😂
  21. Being simplistic Mode S is ADSB and is what CASA wanted introduce back in 2014
