    I didn't say L1 . BACK then you had to have quite a few things going for you. Some verifiable qualifications and work experience and recommendations from Authorised Aviation Workshops etc What's the use of it IF you don't have to know much? Nev

    Those Nikasil Bores don't give any trouble but rings, valve guides, stems and springs are worth checking. Rust pit on a valve spring will cause breakage later. Don't think I'd split the cases without reason . Is it the earlier 80 HP motor without the Red gear clutch? Nev

    Bit like GA. You CAN be alloewed to do those things. I was all set up to have L ticketing, but stopped when I was informed I'd have to sign off anyone who fronted. With flying I don't Trust the word and capability of a lot of people and would choose to reduce my chances of Losing my House by having nothing to do with them. Some would even muck up a NEW plane in no time. Wouldn't trust them to put a fuel CAP ON. It's NOT a given that everybody thinks AEROPLANE. Nev

    How long has it been sitting? Any sign of rust on the valve springs? You may not wish to bother with this at this time.Nev

    Purging is only used to prevent over filling and /or get an accurate measure on the stick. With a new engine it will quickly achieve good compression seal and will be slower to check than a motor with a few 100's of hours. Pull the prop over slowly to allow the compression to pass the rings and push the oil back. Prime the engine fully before the First run. IF you do a lot of ground runs get it properly HOT if you can. Condensation in your motor does it no good. Cut open your oil filter and inspect it at every oil change especially the first one. With new oil in the tank I'd like to ensure there's no air in the system before restarting the Motor. Nev

    Expect the Oil tank to vent oil at negative "G". It's a good idea to reduce power after a negative G experience till sure the Oil pressure has stabiliser. Flight profile permitting. That applies to any Non aerobatic Oil set up. Nev

    IF an engine has overspeed limits specified (and they all should) There is usually ONE for up to five minutes (Engine strip and check certain items) and an absolute another one IF exceeded at all. Scrap it. No IF's or buts. It's been stressed beyond design Limits. It a part of an aeroplane that no longer meets specs.. Nev

    You set those figures by adjusting the Pitch stops. IF this is not done properly, your prop is not safe. It CAN overspeed and not allow you to have a safe stall margin. Nev PS COARSE.

    AEROPLANES are Unique in so much as they are made to operate in the air and only stay there when things go right. You cant\'t just SAY "Hang this" and Pull over and hail a TAXI. The Plane doesn't stay there. It falls and BREAKS THINGS and Kills people. Nev

    WHAT have YOU been involved with concerning Aircraft might be a MORE relevant question. Self Administration worked REAL good with BOEING didn't it?. 100's died GIANT payouts.. The FAA got BAGGED BIGTIME for allowing that to happen and Boeing's nearly BROKE. All the different SASAO's divide the voice. of the Participants and gives them UNCERTAINTY. Forming them PROVES NOTHING. but a desire to avoid the Responsibility the FEDERAL LAW of the LAND charges them with accepting. Its able to by virtue of the government backing.. Nev

    What revs did you go to?. I won't tell anybody but you should think about it. There are never exceed RPMS where the Motor is junked for every certified engine. OF course you can overlook these things Like an Unreported Heavy landing but who are you fooling? Would you like someone doing Aeros in a normal Plane you are hiring before you got it?. Nev

    RAAus can't go anywhere and have authority to interview normal citizens. All they could do is cancel their Membership or involve the Police ? THAT would go down well with the rest of the Membership NOT. An unlicensed Pilot is a normal citizen and has nothing to do with CASA unless there is some evidence of criminal activity of an aviation Nature to be Investigated currently Or in the past when He had a current licence..     You are supposed to have done the applicable endorsement to operate those Props You can easily exceed the engine's limits That COULD require AN ENGNE STRIP OR WORSE. Nev

    At the beginning of all this the CASA assured all that at no time would the requirements applicable to RAAus be more onerous than under GA rules. Any non conforming to ICAO still has the be by exemptions though.. This is one example of where extra liability crops up. CASA agreed to pay/compensate RAAus for work they would have had to do. How That works Out. I do not know but it's likely to be a lopsided argument, if push comes to shove. Nev

    I was very active when the first Courses were being arranged and I was not in favour of how it was introduced and recall discussing it intensely with a group of Instructors at Fyshwick (CBR) who tended to be in agreement with Me. I Knew there was Pushback in the Ranks. However It was proceeded with and a Fairly ordinary result ensued. I also don't recall ANY follow up or consolidation. At the time this was a CASA Initiative and strongly supported by Insurance companies. Perhaps to not have followed Up is a serious Omission IF we wish to be realistic about Causal factors. I LOT of Pilots think it's BS, and THEY don't need it, BUT those are the ones who need it Most.. I've done about 3courses. Not sure IF CASA pushes it any more. Nev

    LTF Been through all that. GA instructor and 25 years with a Major Airline then AUF/ RAAus. instructor. 100% pass in PMI. CASA exam. Having an ATPL day job would limit your recreational flying activity considerably, as you have to comply with Flight and duty time limitations. Nev
