  1. Sad news for Blue Mountains, a live stream by AOPA this afternoon with the current leasee revealed closure date of 19th Nov 21 will see the keys handed back after some 50 plus years. A kick in the guts for local Aviators and others who used this facility.
  2. If people take the job, they should do their best to further RAAus. If they want a bludge…..then go home….
  3. Here is pic, Webb Road runs between Nugget Ave and Burnett Hiway (red) Airstrip (green) runs North/South, it’s 1500 ft long. Very slight downhill to North. Height is around 500ft AMSL and 12nm from Rocky airport.
  4. But what about entering the local Flying School training area D706?
  5. Thanks John……will give them a call 🙂
  6. IF it was that simple 😞 Airstrip at waypoint ‘Weasel’ ……… 23 35.066 S. 150 27.163 E
  7. Silence is deafening 🙂
  8. Well, I ended up in contact with Brisbane Air Services after being given multiple phone numbers. I was enquiring on information about arrival and departure from my own ‘firebreak’ read airstrip for which I gave the GPS coordinates. Seems I must fly not above 1000 AMSL until I get away from below Class E airspace. Now this gives me an approximate clearance from terrain of 500ft variable for some distance, as my airstrip is 500ft or so AMSL. I am asked why can I not ask for clearance into controlled air space? I told him no go with an RPC….. So, it looks like I am in for some low level flying, like it or not 🙂
  9. Subject says it all, called their 1300 number this morning, immediately put on hold……told I am number 1 in the line, another 5 minutes and I get recording that there is no one to take my call and to please leave a detailed msg. that was an hour ago. So far, NOTHING……. But, IF I violated controlled airspace……someone would be waiting on the ground for me, with handcuffs at the ready 🙂
  10. I will go back through my logs and see IF it was a home made addition? Would have to be probably factory sanctioned for. 23 rego aircraft?
  11. Sounds like a really well run operation…….a few others could learn from it 🙂
  12. I just use an iPad now…….not used desktop machine for a couple of years…….
  13. And Avdata parasites are helping them, only because Councils are too lazy to do their own admin, ratepayers should expect better…….
  14. If Councils deleted Avdata, a lot more people would be happy to contribute landing fees knowing Councils got ALL the money. Avdata parasites contribute NOTHING to Aviation as I have said previously.
  15. Might be time to make a list of RAAus unfriendly airports 🙂
  16. Turbs, CASA are part of the regulatory organisation for Aviation……Whilst they may not be directly responsible on the subject in discussion, I am sure their ex CEO may have a few clues to look into it and see what process could be instigated with ASA?
  17. Maybe it’s time for RAAus to help justify its existence, now we have an ex CASA CEO……
  18. When I was training at Coffs, used to fly coastal South not above 1000 to the training area all the time and return. Mixing it with RPT traffic etc.
  19. It would be nice if the Councils were lobbied to get rid of Avdata and use a better method of managing fee collections to lower landing costs and see Councils get the fees direct, Aviators might feel a bit better about the whole thing without money grabbing Avdata parasites? being involved.
  20. I see no objection to reasonable landing fees, but when Avdata become involved, they want their cut and they provide NOTHING towards Aviation. They just rake off money, but only because Councils don’t want to directly manage a ratepayer asset.
  21. The student is being saddled with increasing costs, due to more fancy aircraft, briefing time charges not in hourly rate, then add landing fees and any other surcharges etc.The hourly training costs in many cases well exceed $300 per hour, RPC costs are rising fast and it can only hinder the sector and that is why I would like to see a lower cost Foundation Aviation regime as RAA is climbing towards GA costs. Add in the fact we are are not heading in to prosperous times in the future, either.
  22. The ‘wild days” ended over years ago. U.S. FAR Part 103 has been going nearly 40 years. IF the were too many fatalities the FAA would have shut it down years ago. There are great training regimes in place over most of the U.S. for aspiring Part 103 flyers. Also consider that over the years the quality of kits and motors has improved vastly. The sector is expanding so fast in the U.S. there is a many month backlog for kit orders. And, with the looming aluminium shortage it may become longer 😞 If RAAus are not interested, maybe its time for another peak body to be formed to administer the sector?
  23. It’s a wonder the old Skycraft Scout even got off the ground with its flappy fabric 🙂
