  1. Thanks dsam, their are some great combos in that lot for sure and it does highlite the associated problems of the concept ( for this countrys air touring at least). Like most I looked at trailerable befor buying my first aircraft and that combined with my trade experience resulted in my minimum criteria to do the job being settled on, and that is by no means meant a critique, but mearly my choice of travel, I was adament that I would,nt tow a low set unstabilized lightweight single axle brick on some of our worst roads, (savanah way ect) particularly as i,m building from the ground up and wish to get it right first time. If the reason for trailering is hanger cost and security driven, primarily, that changes things considerably and allows much less to be taken into consideration. Bottom line is horses for courses I guess, but a teriffic way to go all told. Cheers Mick.
  2. Great vidieo sir and a delightfull aircraft, the demountable float option combined with trailerable is an even better solution for touring and well worth looking into.what make of floats are they and what material are they of, they look to be carbon over foam in the vid. Thanks for sharing and well done. Mick
  3. What a wonderfull flying machine sir. Did that variant have the 503 in it and what was the preformance like on floats
  4. G'day JG3 ( john ) you are absolutely correct that air touring without having to rely on anyone else's goodwill and generosity and with your own ground support vehicle and accomadation is the only way to go sir. I am in the process of doing the same thing with construction of a very streamlined, due to pusher designed aircraft type, fully enclosed lightweight stabilized and braked duel axle trailer to accomadate my aircraft choice for that purpose which is my GT500 the wings do not ( fold ) but are removed and carried on the airframe as a single loading unit. I have yet to see or be advised of any aircraft in our class with folding wings that would survive, or could be trusted not to be damaged in transit on our outback roads, I would very much like to chat with you off forum re our similar interests sir my email is [email protected] thanks and hope to talk soon. Mick
  5. Not a bit Pete that engineering is harmonised and music even when its roaring, and is no way comparable to the awful unharminized H&D banging which is i,m told legal, i,d like to put a digital recording audiometer along side one on full throttle on the move and if thats not over the hearing damage threshold to bystanders i,d be very surprised. I have some friends who ride them and i am in no way anti bike, aprillias, katanas and such, just anti unnecessary invasive noise.
  6. Be carefull HITC their are many industries that are totally dependant and reliant on (litigation for everything and anything) that we have allowed to fester to where we are now, as well as many spinoff organizations that could,nt exist if common sense did. The GBRMA is a classic case in point Which allows companys to dredge and dump in inshore areas, while I can,t throw a single fishing line in off the rocks 200 meters from my home, and lets not mention the bias of the black indigenous industry towards the white indigenous population which is offensive to anyone who genuinely believes in and supports multiculturalism. Just thought i,d through that in eh. cheers Hargraves
  7. In the latter stages of my certificate training the cfi demonstrated flying your glide approach buy judgment only via covering the asi which was good learning practice but only to demonstrate its possible to do so, otherwise scan and monitor asi, rate of decent and the ball
  8. Anyone who could love the awful H&D noise made by two pistons fighting each other with no muffler to shut them up would have to be basic in engineering experience i,d recon. They should be banned till they are quitened down around 75% as a first step towards suburban normalcy.
  9. Yes their still building and I have had parts supplied since the ownership change as well, another point to them is their parts manual supplied with the aircraft it,s very comprehensive with exploded views of all assemblies and numbered hardware. Many manufacturers would do well to follow them.
  10. G,day Mac and wecome to the clan, their is some excellent advice and tips that have already been forwarded to you via this forum for my two cents worth I would suggest you take your time with your aircraft type decision and in particular do not overlook the factory produced Quicksilver GT500. I did my training in a cub. And brought a 500 as my first aircraft, I then went on and brought a storch muster and I am still behind it capabilities. I sold my 500 to clear my rented hanger for the storch and have regretted doing so ever since, so much so that I have brought another one. The thing is I love flying the storch but the reason we fly is for the pure enjoyment of it, we,re not rpt taxies, and for real flying fun the 500 ticks all the boxes. Its also fully cnc machined and fully supported and still in production, so have a fly in one at least befor you decide is my suggestion sir. Cheers Mick
  11. Just bloody awful news again, my thoughts go to all our flying brothers and familys affected.
  12. Its difficult to work the empire out eh, whats wrong with 750kg and 1500kg ultralights.
  13. G,day Bob not a prob at all re time frame sir when ever its available is fine. Thanks mate.
  14. Absolutely right onetrack. Except possibly for the 900 mile deep nazi invasion of russia I once read an accounting of civilian casulties, transport infrastructure damage, private dwellings, historical buildings, government buildings, hospitals, museums, and art galleries, and when you see that listed it really brings a better understanding of the reasons why russians felt the way they did towards everyone after the war. Everyones aware they killed 6 million innocent jewish people but who remembers the 20 million russians they murdered in the same times. Cheers Hargraves
  15. Now that would be a bad look, with deviance a major player. How did you stop the bugger in the end. Not sure of how much static thrust a 582 can give but I think its around 90 kg or so. Does anybody know the figure (nominal)
  16. G,day Riley we talked via posts a good while back about your fabric tester and the 500 i,m bringing back on line after its wings off hanger storage since 2009 could you contact me please regarding same sir cheers Mick 0414607563
  17. I don,t transit anywhere below 2500' or more. Because my instructors emphasized (hight = time = safety) and thats the (bottom) line
  18. Well said sir. I have to agree completly with your post and will add the extra component of my view that bigger is seldom better for non professional (read recreational aviation) organizations. The members interest (non professional just recreational) are largely ignored or left behind. I suggest a real vote mailed out to RAA pilot members only, asking who wants to fly in controlled airspace, who wants MTOW increases, and who thinks RAA (the company) with no regional representatives is better than we had would result in a more accurate directive to the board that would benefit the silent majority of our pilots. Cheers Hargraves
  19. I,m of the opinion that the 90% of membership that deliberatly did,nt participate in the last RAA corporate event made a very clear statement and If i were a board member I,d be very concerned about the power and potential of that obvious enormously strong undercurrent thats out their just waiting for an alternate. PS Bring it on. Cheers Hargraves
  20. A very interesting disscusion but one in which the most important safety feature of the 582 and its one outstanding differance with the other types is not mentioned. The very history of its development was entirely reliant and emphatic on thermal energy control (to keep it warm) as the case was at the time. This operational necessity is the very reason their able to easily handle the high load stress and speeds of aviation operation. Does anyone seriously believe a pressure lubricated slipper bearing is superiour to a properly manufactured cageless pressure lubricated roller bearing the reasons for not employing them is enginerring housing size requirments more than anything. N B when was the last time you saw a turbine with slipper mains. Cheers Hargraves
  21. 68 kts today in perfect air at 3500' but I do think my prop is pitched wrong as well. Storches are differant than most for sure.
  22. A hornet would be the (bees knees) in my book but 31 kt touch and goes in the the storch aint too bad for the money. Cheers Hargraves
  23. First started in a lightwing but two young kids and two jobs and my wife working as well and while not actually a dislike for the aircraft but more like not suited to it, was an impossible dream so it only went about 5 hrs. When the kids finished school I started again in a beautiful refurbished 1946 j3 cub and what a genuine pleasure to fly she was, I still don,t know of a better trainer and 19500 of them built to train yank pilots for the war speaks for its self i think. Cheers Hargraves
  24. Hey yen I think I miss cued a naught or so eh. Cheers hargraves
  25. The last information i,m aware of regarding participating member numbers of our hobby, that is, owner pilots, was indicative of us representing .0017% of the Australian population so I would agree that the general populations ignorance of our sport is normal and that paid media reporting to avoid the facts and make it entertainment instead of news, is what that same public enjoys and prefers, so we just have to groan and endure it I think guys. I would like to expand a little bit and add to what facthunter said though, as I do believe their is a much greater differance in why we fly than the extra experience it offers. I think the differance is because pilots actively seek and enjoy being on our own recognense and fully resposible for ourselves, which is not the case with most earthlings, as far as I can work out anyway. Cheers Hargraves
