  1. Perhaps "smarter" is not the correct word....Sceptical would be reasonable, considering these specialist are from organisations run by a government with a poor management record, but bear in mind I'm not talking Liberal, Labour or greens. The Australian government, not matter who runs the show have generally not been the sort people you would go to if you really needed something well organised. Not to mention that the current safety theme in this country is "Safety at all costs", rather than effective risk management. I personally think proper quarantine of all travellers early in the situation would have been more effective, because now they're just wrecking the place trying to catch up. They sat on their hands because they were worried about offending a few people. Only time will tell whether the cost was worth it. For those who think talking about the monetary side is inappropriate. It's not just a piece of paper or metal, it's a measure of the resources you have at your disposal. You may not like the wealthy people, but they are the ones paying for most of the stuff that most people get from their government. If that goes away who's going to pay for your healthcare and pension then? There does come a time when effort exceeds gain.
  2. Actually you are out by about 10 years, the current 95.10 wing loading has been in effect at least since 1996. The Hummels only have around 7 square metres of wing which won't cut it at 300kg and it would be hard to have a MTOW much less. The Hummel would be easily registered under 95.55 and this has been pointed out by many over the years, but for some reason this is unacceptable to SS.
  3. Exactly, try not doing the storage servicing on a state owned aircraft and see what they throw at you for not carrying out the legal requirements.
  4. It's a legal obligation to correctly maintain your aircraft, or your hangar could be a place of worship perhaps.
  5. When the rules are silly, everything is naughty. If the rules were sensible only idiots would break them.
  6. After seeing how QLD cops worked with Newman’s VLAD laws, il’m not prepared to try my luck when they are given this much authority.
  7. What reason did you fly under? It’s easy enough to to be socially distant, but since they now use the word “must” in their stage 3 restrictions , and then only give you four acceptable reasons. None of which I can reasonably use, despite not being in contact a single soul through the whole process.
  8. I will concede that they have outlawed flying now. Unnecessary, really. But at least I got a good few hours in over the weekend while it was still legal rather than listening to the disinformation posted by yourself. What bothers me most about it is that you claim to read instructive documents regularly, so the misinformation must have been deliberate. Shouldn’t Dan have the other hand raised? Have you seen Kyle? He’s about this high. ?
  9. And the "Turbo Encabulator" is the updated model?
  10. Well..............If I thought the grey nomads would f*ck of if I slashed their tyres, I'd certainly think about it. But when you think about it, if you slash their tyres, they can't f*ck off. (unless you do it in their own driveway) After reading about the American tourists who left a trail through multiple towns before absconding back to the USA, one would be inclined to slash more than their tyres.
  11. I know this is difficult for you to understand, but it is quite possible to fly recreationally and not break any laws. YOU are providing misinformation. How hard is it to understand that as long as you don't cross borders, and maintain "social distancing", that you are complying with all directives? As you say....This information is available on the government websites...In plain english.
  12. I have done major repairs and modification to a well known design and as such have been the "test pilot" on many occasions, but two things I wont do are: 1. Deliberately spin it, despite being illegal and although the airframe design looks acceptable, I can't find any data on spin testing. 2. Load it outside CoG limits, and mine would be very easy to overload to the aft. Care is always taken there.
  13. Private flying alone is not a problem, however we have two stories around here. One of a woman who presented with symptoms, probably not COVID, but caution is appropriate, who is told to go home and isolate for 14 days. Said woman decides she should do her shopping on the way home. Another case arrived from India 4 days ago, but decides she really must have her hair cut.
  14. I believe that to be an accurate assessment......
  15. Drain tanks, lines and float bowls. Drain engine oil and fill with inhibitor oil. The Rotax manual should have the necessary process, assuming that’s your engine.
  16. Absolutely nothing as long as you abide by the the conditions mentioned. Flying by yourself is a perfect activity for this occasion, even better if it’s your own aircraft. The aircraft I work on at the moment are now required to have the cockpit disinfected after every flight between crew changes.
  17. Part of the issue is that LSA are not required to be tested to the same standard as GA aircraft are. In a Cessna or Piper, you know that it has been tested and modified as necessary to be recoverable from a stable spin, not so with LSA. A slow moving instructor with a student in an LSA may quickly find themselves outside the limits to which the aircraft has been tested. My point was more about the principle. Drivers who understand how their ABS works are less likely to have a crash. Similarly drivers that drive blindly to the speed limit without any "feel" won't know that they are about to exceed the traction limits of their tyres on a slippery bit of road, and a pilot with "feel", will feel the interaction between the airframe and airflow and know they are right on the edge of where it will go bad. They have the "feel" because they understand what is going on and have made the effort to find the edge in a situation where it won't be fatal, rather than just taking off, climbing to a safe altitude, flying in a straight line, descending and landing on a long hard runway. There are those who are interested in what they do and there are those that just do what they do without thought.
  18. Read the government websites instead of forums, social media and MSM. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/state-emergency
  19. As I said, going for a lone flight in the middle of nowhere complies with current government restrictions as advertised on the government website. Nothing to argue about.
  20. In other words........"I'm alright Jack".
  21. The flight complied with all self isolation guidelines. If you can go and get a haircut, then there should be no problem driving alone to and isolated paddock with a shed, where you takeoff alone, land and return home , alone, all without any interaction with anyone else.
  22. I like the way you think, but apparently society doesn't see it that way. It's very obvious that most people who operate a machine like a car, bike or plane, have virtually no idea of the physics involved, nor are they required to. Perhaps a little less so with aircraft, as some knowledge is required to pass the exams. However, after meeting many engineers, it is obvious that knowing the theory and putting it into practice are very different things. I can't imagine Joe public being happy about doing a type conversion when they sold the Commodore and bought a Nissan Skyline, in order to understand their systems.
  23. And someone usually makes a long winded radio transmission, complete with crappy background noises at exactly that moment as well...
  24. Sounds like people need to stop listening to the media and use government sites for information. https://www.australia.gov.au/
  25. Yeah, I know how it works....I have issues with anything that makes someone else responsible for your behaviour.
