  1. Long straight edge chocked up to centre height of wheels across the front of tyres and a builders square on outside edge of tyre. Simple really.
  2. Go for a C182 better performance and throttle back to C172 speed for similar fuel burn. Just a little more expensive in maintenance. Or you could try a 4 seat jab with turbo rotax for better performance than a C172 at 17lt/hr! Tom
  3. Great little aircraft very happy with mine. Tom
  4. Yes a truly wild place. I have searched a few times for it and you could literally be only metres from it and not see it especially after 32 years! Tom
  5. Dr Z you give up easy. Not such a difficult conversion. Perhaps you should come and have a look (and fly) of mine. Pm me to know more. Tom
  6. Y Yes it is and I like it. Though don't know how it feels any other way. Tom
  7. Hi MM yes my skyfox doesn't have the aileron centring springs. I did not know it was meant to have them till somebody else mentioned it to me a couple of weeks ago. They have never been on there since I bought it 2nd hand not long ago. Tom
  8. I am sure it won't be too much of a slug at climbing with only 100hp at least no worse than a C 172. Though hot and high ops might use some runway. I mostly only use 100hp for takeoff in my J400 and at about 600kg gives 800'/min. Tom I do have a constant speed prop though
  9. The next question to ask is what does it weigh? 0-233 lycoming at 30+kg heavier would put the 230/430 to about 410 kg or more empty! Tom
  10. Is the 430 experimental? If so yes it can be done but will require another final inspection and reissue airworthiness certificate. Ok for 700kg. If you want RAAus it will become a 2 sestet Mtow 544kg I believe. If it has been factory built then I do not think it can be changed. Tom
  11. Fox worker what do you if new spars are needed?
  12. 100% glycol has a no pressure boiling temp around 180'C but add a little water it drops dramatically even 90% is only around 130'C or maybe less I can't remember the exact figure now. Tom
  13. Hey thanks that is so much better :) Tom Needy
  14. Yes using iPhone. If it was in the corner ok but it sits part way up the page. Just very annoying. Tom s
  15. Sorry to disagree but it only appeared yesterday. Gets in the way of reading posts. If I want top of page I tap at top. Yes I realised the go to unread post was only missing because I was not logged in, silly me.
  16. How do I get rid of the annoying 'top of page' icon? Tom
  17. I agree with you 100%. I plan to build a single seat aircraft for less than $10,000 using all new materials. Tom
  18. Only $4000 cheaper? Not much in the big scheme of things especially for a new design without years of proof testing. I am sure it could well be a good engine but only $4000 cheaper and a lot less parts going into it? Give me a well proven engine or make it really worth my while to try a new engine. Tom
  19. Just to add to OME's post, leak down should be done with engine warmed up. Cold testing could have quite a bit of variation. Tom
  20. Mike I like to be a little different and fitted rotax 914 to the j400 I was building. Very happy with it. Take off and climb performance better than standard jab. Cruise 115. @ 17lt/hr. Come and have a look at Narromine if you get a chance. Tom
  21. My 4yr old and I hope to flying in and camping we will come in the Turbo Jab! Tom
  22. Another point about Natfly, for me, the exhibitors are not the main attraction rather the comraderie and talking to other builders etc. I am not sure how this can be achieved physically at Temora but I am sure things can be rearranged to bring the whole thing closer in. I suggest studying the aerodrome plan and look at different arrangements to try and make it work better. Tom
  23. I believe that one reason Temora is not as popular is it is just too spread out. At Narromine the planes and exhibitors were all there together and one could walk around and talk to other builders etc. having planes parked tail to tail puts a lot more aircraft in a smaller area. I did never get around to catch a bus to look at some planes at Temora. It really does not create the atmosphere like Narromine had. My 2 cents worth. Tom
  24. That is an excellent video thanks for that. Never stop learning. Tom
  25. Permission is required but to my knowledge is never given. But you can try. Pity, it is a beautiful place and a good airstrip. Tom
