  1. I need to put another tap on the fuel line. I have a tap for each wing tank, but they're above the header tank which holds 7 litres. If there was an engine bay fire I wouldn't want fuel continuing to be provided.
  2. If my joystick is in danger of burning, I've got bigger problems than what the grip is made of...
  3. An update - on Saturday and yesterday @nomadpete has generously given his time and knowledge to wire up my instrument panel. Almost done - it was fantastic to see the elevator trim moving and the little LED position indicator working after Peter figured out how to wire up the servo. (Ray Allen don't make it easy, they start off at the servo with the correctly colour-coded wires but then join them to the 5-wire cable which goes the length of the fuselage - in different colours!) Thanks again Peter!
  4. Some of the wooden ones available look good. Maybe I'll try carving one.
  5. Aircraft Spruce sells grips with 1 1/8" hole. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/hmbltcontrolstick.php
  6. I like those extruded "D" leading edges and spars. Certainly beats hours with an air solid riveter and bucking bar putting L extrusions on the top and bottom of a 0.025" web.
  7. Would ditching and submersion in sea water automatically write off the aircraft, or could it be restored?
  8. What are you going to do for seat cushions Mark?
  9. Good on her. Both uninjured and no one else hurt, can't ask for much more than that when the fan stops.
  10. Hang gliders have sharp sweep back and no tail. Tips are negative incidence compared to the centre section. Probably wouldn't translate well to a faster aircraft though.
  11. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but guessing that a starter motor would be a relatively safe part to go aftermarket. Mostly it's used on the ground, so if it doesn't work it's not life threatening. (If you're desperately trying to restart in the air it's another matter of course, but what would be the odds of your starter motor failing at exactly the same time as whatever stopped your engine?)
  12. Got an oil cooler (standard for Rotax) thanks to the generosity of a forum member who had a spare.
  13. Fortunately that's about 50mph faster than I'll be going!
  14. Used to fly hang gliders with a bloke who'd have a choof before flying. Didn't seem to affect his flying but he did occasionally forget to drop his feet out of the bag before landing.
  15. Big, slow, slow... don't have the figures on me. People with similar aircraft - CH750, Sav - assure me that the standard size is sufficient.
  16. Daylight savings are over now, but for the past few month we have been getting up earlier than the banana-benders.
  17. Thanks Nev - next question - you mention "top of the line" Chinese radiators, do any brand names spring to mind as being better than others?
  18. I'm not a parachuting expert by any means, but that chute looks a little small for the weight of a Caravan too...
  19. Seeking informed opinion. An original Rotax radiator is northwards of $700 from Bert Flood. If you google "Rotax 912 radiator" you are flooded with ads from Ebay for replacements, from about $150 - $300. Is the build quality of the original such that it actually should be 2.5 - 5 times the price of an aftermarket item?
  20. Yeah... kind of... but a delta (sans canards) would also have a rear-mounted wing like a duck... seems a bit thin really. But the word has been around since 1906 - Wikipedia reckons it started with the Santos-Dumont 14 bis which, when you look at that box-shaped front stabilizer, actually does look a bit like a duck.
  21. "Canard" also means "duck" (in French) - I've always been curious as to why a front HS is called a "canard". Not like you see ducks flying around with a little set of wings sticking out of their neck.
  22. All good mate, I think my problem is solved so good luck with your mate's!
  23. Thanks all. Bob, are you saying there's no ducting or shrouds on the Sav from the intake to the radiators?
  24. They wouldn't have much range of speed to do that. Guessing the Lightning isn't great at slow speed! Pity they couldn't have put a Mozzie in there too.
  25. Can you remove the kit elevator flange and fabricate a new one?
