  1. You'd like to think that a new venue would be given at least three years ownership which would give them a chance to recover some of the costs for the new improvements most places would need to host this event. i_dunno Our biggest problem at Echuca is lack of town water. :yuk: Everything is in a rainwater tank or comes out of the bore (which has a high salt content). Council has stopped selling land here (for hangers) because of the water problem. (Ithink the CFA or equivilent have a safety issue as well). :black_eye: We do, however have lots of room to park aircraft, and our club knows how to look after aviators. regards :big_grin:
  2. Welcome Gavin. Now be good and don't be tempted to turn off the fan. :ah_oh: Otherwise you'll find how good a glider the Jabiru isn't! thumb_down (compared to what you're used to). regards :big_grin:
  3. Sorry Kaz - slow on answering your last. LittlePete had a great time. Left straight after the Roulettes. Poor little guy was almost frozen. :yuk: (there ain't much of him) . He probably would have liked to have seen more of Pop (BigPete) as well. regards :big_grin:
  4. ....and possibly too complicated/complex. regards
  5. Bummer - egg on my face  - should have checked my facts, must get out the old aircraft recognition charts. i_dunno One thing the bad weather did achieve was to push us all into a warm cosy room full aviation atmosphere  and good cheer  (and tall storys) - more like a 48 hour continous (nearly) party. regards :big_grin:
  6. G'day Guys, We did manage to put up some aircraft. We had a 25/30 knot cross wind (and gusting) (35-17) Grass strip was closed (05-23) :yuk: Jim (Wickham I think) flew the pants of his Robinson R22. What a pilot, his routine was awsome. :ah_oh: Murray (didn't get a surname) (ex RAAF Instructor) did an magnificent job in his CT4 - you'd think it was a calm day, the way he flew that lil' ol' Victa. The spitfire came straight from Temora, - refuelled at Deniliquin (into wind runway) and did a bang up job in formation with Judy Pay's Trogen. (that gal can Fly!!!!) Beech 12 got into the air - beautiful sound and oh so shiny (I'm in love  (again)) did some very nice passes and departed for home. Yak 52's belonging to our very own Peter George and Rob Hosking :star: did some tight formation work, great sound (don't ya just love a radial) (the Russians are coming!!). By 2pm the wind had picked up a bit more :black_eye: (understatement of the year) and the RAAF Roulettes closed the show. Jeez can these guys fly or what Just another day in the office to them. Tight, tight formations, and you could see each aircraft jinking around within its position - heart stopping stuff, and they made it look soooo easy.:thumb_up::thumb_up: AS Ben would say - I dips me lid. (Ben was there, as busy as a one armed wallpaper hanger, on the end of a video camera, good to see you (briefly Ben). Lots of great looking aircraft on the ground, (I spent most of my day on the bloody fuel truck :yuk: ) and plenty of things to see as well (hot rods, old engines etc etc). The EAC (Echuca Aero Club) ladies did a brilliant catering job, serving up plenty of hot tasty (and healthy) food. Those that managed to fly in had a terrific time (note: need bigger club house). We may just break even - a real shame when I think of the amount of work that went in behind the scenes. But - as they say - that's aviation for ya. i_dunno regards :big_grin:
  7. Quite windy today, and hardly any rain  (until 6pm and then a real cloud burst). A few early birds got thru before things closed up a bit. Roulettes flew in (nice formation guys), at 2 pm and landed ever so neatly one after the other. Wirraway and Beechcraft arrived together followed by a neat run of the TQ (Three Quarter) Mustang and a Yak 52 trying to keep up. Forecast for tomorrow looks better  - we are down on airshow participating aircraft and the airshow routine is being rewritten as I type this. Might even get a run in the Jbiruoo. A lot of very hard work has gone into this event. We may break even - it will depend on local spectator suport - we'll see how it goes. regards :big_grin:
  8. Well - no rain overnight. 6 aircraft managed to arrive yesterday afternoon - might have been a bit of hedge hopping happening. ;) Great BBQ meal in the clubrooms last night - quite a few have arrived by road. Very overcast outside and top of 19 deg expected. i_dunno Tomorrow may just be good enough to put on a show.......:big_grin: regards :big_grin:
  9. Well - it's a bit damp here in Echuca. Some early birds arrived Thursday, about 20 aircraft. Club rooms have never looked so good and the airport is spic and span. The dust is well and truely settled and what will we do with 100kg of sausages and bacon. :yuk::confused: (and 800 liters of MOGAS) We are all hoping the weather will improve and we can put on a good show Sunday. Bit hard if no one can fly in and it keeps raining (not that there's anything wrong with that) and the weather stops the airshow. (might make a few dollars pulling cars out of the mud) ;) I'll keep you posted. regards :big_grin:
  10. ...you ain't. regards :big_grin: (geez Merv, where did you come from. - this post is suposed to be after Destiny Flyer.)
  11. G'day articserv - welcome. The way things are going, Kyabram (Echuca, Tongala and Shepparton) just might end up as the RAA capital of the country! Lots of people live and fly in your/our area (I'm Echuca based). I know of 5 Savanahs, 7 Jabiru's, 1 sapphire, 4 Tecnams, 1 sabre, 2 GT 500's and a Zodiac 601, all within 30 minutes of each other. And there just the ones I know of.:big_grin: regards :big_grin:
  12. Now seems to be as good a time as any to inform all readers and contributors to the NES, the Extra Special Events planned for the AAAA Echuca Aero Club Flyin/Airshow for 2009. PlainJaneVanillaI'llPaintItWhenIFeelLikeItGeoff i_dunno and daredevil FriarPuk :clown: (CoPilot and provider of fine communial wine) will demonstrate their infamous late night delivery technique in the JabbyJuicerCrusher aircraft. :) The highlight of the demonstration is the reversed inverted flight capabilities that was developed by our intrepid heros to avoid detection by the dreaded wowsers (CASA) and also to confuse the ASIC card inspectors, :yuk: who couldn't tell if they were coming or going..... Hohum :black_eye: was schelduled to demonstrate his soggy soft field takeoff technique, but after the great Narrowmindedland washout - it's become all too familiar to bother with. The good Captain:heart:/Kapitain, Le Crepe,Le Creepe/etc, etc will appear as one or perhaps all of his split personalities (or is that spoilt :ah_oh: personalities) and has also been booked to appear at the local RSL ladies/nanas night "Come and Get It" ball. Other NESers  are expected to attend this event and will no doubt try to out do each other with many tall stories and "bending of the truth" about their flying prowess ;) (both in the sky and under the blankets). ;) We hope to have a special "tall yarn" event at the local stock yards. (Plenty of bull:censored: down there as well). We have also created a new competition especially for RAA members. Its called "can you find him" The competition carries a first prize of all the frozen bread and sausages you can carry (left over from the last attempted flyin at Echuca). All you have to do is correctly identify "BigWhereThe:censored:IsHe?Pete" who hasn't been seen anywhere near an aviation event this year, (poor bastard). If you need fuel (Avgas) there will be special fuel timings (TBA) when the fuel truck will "tour" the tiedown area for you to top up. If you need MOGAS, then talk to me and I will help you out (transport and containers). regards :big_grin:
  13. Some great shots there Mark. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Narromine is a real hoot. I'm going next year for sure. Regards :big_grin:
  14. Try putting it upside down. regards :big_grin:
  15. Cunning as a fox is our Captain  (and there's nothing wrong with that). Well done mate - loved the photos. Any rumours worth sharing from your lightning visit regards :big_grin: PS - Keep one of those buns on ice Planey  - I'll eat it at the Echuca Airshow. :yuk:
  16. What happened to the gumboot throwing comp? ;) regards :big_grin:
  17. Well, I can't go this year (family commitments) - looks like a repeat performance of last year (weather wise). BigPete and LittlePete  (grandson) zipped over to Swan Hill yesterday (Wednesday) and had visit with Cliff Banks (Sun Centre Ultralights) and wished him a safe jouney to Narromine. Safe flying to all those attempting the flight - just remember to have a bug out plan and if it all gets to hard, then use it and try again next year - you'll have to be alive to try again. Don't make Easter a sad time for the family you leave behind. :black_eye: "Nuff said. regards :big_grin:
  18. I'm with you Tony. Had an experience not long after getting my certificate. Taxied to the run up point, did all my checks and gave an entering runway call (I had heard no radio broadcasts at all except for my earlier taxi call) and started for the threshold looking down the runway - no one coming looking back (final approach) no one coming - yes there is - someone on late final. So I stopped and said (on the radio) something like - "Jabiru xxxx holding short of runway 35 for aircraft on late final". Must have a bad radio or is on wrong frequency - oh well - my turn now as he's nearly off. Gave another entering call and away I went - as I picked up speed I heard the bastard (clear as a bell) give a clear all runways call!!!!!! Never heard a 10 mile innbound call, joining circuit or in circuit calls. :yuk::yuk: Now I'm older and wiser and expect anything - including bad airmanship. That way I'm not disappointed when it happens :big_grin::big_grin: regards :big_grin:
  19. ahhhhhhhhhh...... another lost soul returns from the GA wilderness and sees the shining, welcoming RAA light. Welcome Billjim. regards :big_grin:
  20. you mean he was......... premature.:big_grin: regards :big_grin:
  21. Sorry I missed this one - especially as its in my "backyard". Bummer! regards :big_grin:
  22. Looks like a real hoot. Sorry I missed it. regards
  23. I must admit Planey, after wandering around the OZ Zoo listening to (non-stop) Bindi recordings and seeing all the Bindi merchandise and Bindi posters - I'm all Bindied out. regards :big_grin:
  24. Wonder how much a "going around" would cost?? Good show. Enjoyed it. regards
  25. The bus driver told us that over 1100 people a week move to QLD. By 2040 they expect to be bigger (population wise) than Victoria. (currently around 9 million). regards :big_grin:
