  1. What a week - went with my daughter, son in law, and three grand children to Surfers for a holiday. Went up with Virgin :broken_heart: (Quantas doesn't do direct to ) had to pay for everything (including $4.90 for the small screen TV) Landed at Coolangatta (undergoing massive redevelopment), caught the bus and arrived at Paradise Resort. Not a bad spot, lots of things for the grandkids to do. Did three parks in three days, Movie World, (not bad, kids loved it), Dream World (yea, OK I s'pose), and Sea World (Bloody brilliant). Geez it so GREEN up there, grass and palm trees everywhere. Now - on to my biggest gripe for the whole trip. water. It didn't matter where you went - if you needed a drink of water - you had to buy it. At $4.00 (or more) a 600ml bottle - no drinking fountains anywhere. We carried a fair bit, but we were doing a lot of walking and it was quite warm (and humid). I recon we spent (seven of us) well over $140.00 just for bottled water over the week. $140 dollars. Anyway, had a great time, totally buggered and still not home yet (in Melbourne for grandaughters birthaday). Went to Australia Zoo on Thursday and drove straight past Caboolture strip and up into the Glasshouse mountains (3 hour bus trip :black_eye:). Very clean and neat zoo grounds, with lots of crocs (and expensive water again!). Well, it was OK - I think there is a big hole without Steve Irwin though - pity. Home via Virgin again. Hilight of the trip was flying over Kyabram, (with Echuca just visable) at 31000 feet. regards :big_grin:

    Upsize Me

OK - If that's the case...... A J170 (in LSA) stalls at 40 knots (full flap) Change to RAA (from LSA, 600kgs) and stall at maybe 45 knots at around 650kg?? regards :big_grin:

    Upsize Me

Here's a question..... If/When the new weight limit (for RAA) of 760kgs comes in...... Can a J230 under the LSA catergory, be changed to the RAA and loaded to 700kg as per a J430 or J230 in the Experimental catergory? regards :big_grin:
  4. You and me both, Andy. I'm tippin' a hacksaw may come in handy when they're due to be replaced. i_dunno regards :big_grin:

    Mounting tyres

Couple of mm won't make any difference as the tyre distorts as it rotates on the rim (the bottom bit, on the ground). I think most owners have their rims machined slightly (on the inside) to make the tyres go on the rim a bit easier. Make sure you inflate the tube slightly/lightly to make sure you don't pinch it between the rims at assembly. The vibration issue will be wheel balance - most auto tyre places can't balance them as they are too small to fit on the machine. Try your local go-kart club (they balance their tyres on the kart). (or get onto the brakes after lift off as most of us do (won't stop the front wheel though)) regards :big_grin:
  6. ....and so it came to pass that the good fliers of the NES returned to the story telling of past and present exploits in the air and hardly a word about the ladies of loose morals (and clothing). :yuk: StymiedPete (who has suffered an Avalon setback due to poor dental health :black_eye:) has been uplifted and fortified by his fellow writers decorum  and looks forward to continuing cleanliness and good behaviour (we'll see). ;) Rumour has it that CleanSkinGeoff in Mildura is again running the machinery at night and will not appear at Avalon. thumb_down (It was hoped that "the vanilla guy" would do a drop and burp run of the FriarPuks good wine at the airshow just before the F-111 did its "fuel dump thing", but the RAAF guys said "we play second fiddle to no one - its him or us". The show organisers opted for the RAAF job as the AVTUR was deemed less toxic than the wine to the audience below. The good Captian  has driven (VH-UTE) down to the show and is somewhat unimpressed. thumb_down I feel a little better. regards :big_grin:
  7. I just don't believe it..... Here I sit broken hearted :broken_heart: with a massive tooth ache, can't get into the dentist until 6.30pm and I'm doped up to the gills with pain killers. Already pulled out of the bus trip to Avalon tomorrow (rather do it now than stuff people around tomorrow) thumb_down as I recon I'll be a bit sore and sorry (tooth will be pulled or root canal performed). Friday the 13th - just as well I'm not superstitious. :black_eye: :yuk: Have a good time guys and girls  - send me some pictures of the good stuff. regards :big_grin:
  8. Now boys, be carefull. :ah_oh: Linda is a real person and she just might have feelings :broken_heart: (and a solicitor). So play nice and ask before you touch. This message was posted in the hope that the NES will again come back to be stories about FLYING  and all things AVIATION. (sigh) regards PastaPete or is that PastorPete
  9. What am I? Chopped Liver???? :black_eye: mumble mumble regards :big_grin:
  10. Unfortunately, Captain, I can't get there on Friday. regards :big_grin:
  11. Sometimes the best laid plans....... Originally I was flying into Avalon on Thursday and leaving Monday. Now due to pressing work commitments (isn't it nice when they really do need you... ), I had to change my plans and fly into Avalon East on Saturday. However, the weather is looking dicey....:yuk: ..if I book onto the BUS (while there are still seats available) I can go by road to Avalon and be sure of getting there (in one piece). The most important thing to me is to get to the RAA tent and meet some of you guys in the flesh. So - I'll be there. Can we set up a time to be at the RAA tent regards PS Geez Captain  - are we destined never to meet
  12. Just keep writin' Tony, and we'll keep readin' regards
  13. Bloody hell, Captain  - they've got you nailed. regards :big_grin::big_grin: (Yes, we know, you've never been so insulted.......)
  14. OMGosh :ah_oh: - it's true - God flys a Jabiru. And you read it right here in the NES.... regards :big_grin::big_grin:
  15. ----she'll be cominn' 'round the mountain when she comes (oh yea), she'll be comin' 'round the mountain when she comes (oh baby), she'll be comin' and a comin' Yeee Haaaa BigBoldPete has returned  (and not a moment too soon I'm tippin') ;);) After a long and hard layoff to attend to many family matters (and to earn enough moola to fuel the Jabby) I'm Back Baby. Now, who's doin' what to whom :yuk: regards :big_grin:
  16. Very nice - and I guess the cowl is now upside down, full of crushed ice and a few cold ones.  regards
  17. Hmmmmmm...... I can see this thread going down the gurgler and becoming a "mine is better/bigger than yours" heated debate (debakle??) argument. Suffice to say that some of us love  Jabirus and will defend them until the cows come home and vice versa. I'd love to see a 100hp 4 cylinder Jab of around 2600cc and maybe a larger 6 as well (140hp and 3800cc - to move it away from the new 100hp 4). I do envy the way the Rotax engined (100hp) aeroplanes perform at take off and climb out. That extra 15 - 20hp does make a difference. regards :big_grin:
  18. Ian has them right here in the shop. regards
  19. Fantastic stuff Tony. If you haven't written a book about your life and aviation exploits, then you need to. Would be a best seller I'll bet. What a terrific story. Thankyou. regards
  20. ...the return of BigPete is eminent.:big_grin: my garden is small. 4 tents max.
  21. That's fantastic - no, not the price - the price is OK. BUT, the speed of the answer to my question - FANTASTIC. (thanks, Danny) regards
  22. How much are you guys paying for the Exxon Elite? (per quart) regards
  23. I hope to have it sorted after next weekend  (one way or the other ) regards :big_grin:
