  1. Not sure what you mean by 10 hrs Crezzi? I can only think you are including the briefings yes? David
  2. MM2, I think most instructors are not the owners of the school so therefore they don't have to pay to keep the doors open, I would imagine most would be on an hourly rate and they get paid for the hours that they are in the plane training students, so they would not have any overheads from the business as such, that would be the owners cost, all they would do is work on that hourly rate and charge out the owner at the end of the week or month and then pay taxes etc as we all have to do, I would think that if you were on $50 or $60 per hour that would be pretty good money on that basis. If some are getting paid $90 per hour or better on a contract or hourly rate well good on them no wonder some schools are charging $250 + per hour. Also I would guess it depends on how many bookings each day that the school gets as that relates directly to his income each week and then how many bookings for the week depends on the price per hour the school is charging, what area the school is located, which type of aircaft are offered to students because that is related to the cost to buy the aircraft and maintain it, replacement cost etc and so around it goes.... I don't want champagne training I just want what to be taught to fly a plane safely and correctly, is that champagne training? David
  3. Nice video Scott..the Gold Coast looked fantastic.. David
  4. Yea looks great..if only I could win the lotto to buy it.. David
  5. I don't see how this would cost to much, an email sent out to all the schools that are advertised on the RA-Aus website asking about their rates and then the schools that want to participate send back an email with there rates and then RA-Aus updates their web site with the information...ok granted there will be a few hours involved updating the information but it would not need to be done again for maybe a year.. If they asked me too I could do it yes..no probs.. Well that's up to them of course but if other schools advertise their rates and they don't they could miss out on the business and also people might think they are to expensive and they don't want you to know . All I am saying is that you should be open and honest about what you are charging in your school.. Thats great info on your website nong..that is what I am talking about..very informative about what you do, the aircraft and the project hours needed to get your certificate...that's very good..well done.. David
  6. I am wondering if RA-Aus on their website could in their list of schools http://www.raa.asn.au/school-states/schools-qld/ list current prices for dual and and solo and maybe against the aircraft they use for training. I would be a great help to new students who are looking for a school in a particular area to see what the approximate charges are and then go out to the school with this information already in hand. Just saves a lot of driving around if you have some prior knowleadge on what schools charge, one other major thing it may do, seeing everyone can see there charges on the RA-Aus website is encourage the schools through competition to keep their fee's at the lowest possible charge. So what does everyone think, would this help? If so we could approach our local members to see if it can be done...I really thing some of the schools fee's are getting out of control... David
  7. Like I have said before about this, everything is expensive in Gladstone, the schools owner is capitalising in on the mining industries high incomes...yes I think you are right, it would have to be the most expensive RAA school in Australia.. David
  8. No I think this an updated version of the Gazelle that is going to be released soon.. David
  9. Sure Powerin, I think most of us realize what you are saying but in this video I must say that I saw nothing that would indicate to me that the little girl touching the control stick, I don't even think I saw the stick in the video clip at all.. David
  10. Great video..brought a tear my eye just seeing the pleasure and the wonder of her first flight..and the happiness of her dad that he could give that to her...wonderful.. David
  11. I know that all the instructors are qualified to more or lesser degrees, what makes them a good or bad instructor is how well he can motivate his student, he is a teacher in the end and that's what he needs to do, some older people take longer to teach new things that's just nature and I think some instructors don't have the patience or the ablities to teach older people, I think nearly any instructor can teach a 18 year old to fly but I think it's it's a completly different thing to teach older people. They have life experiences and career in more than likely completly different fields of work than flying and probably much more stressful and I think the problem arises with these people that need to be respected by the instructor and not treated like 18 yr olds that have not anywhere near the life and work experiences that they have. The instructors, I think need to know who they like to train, if they don't like traing older people because they can frustrate them then stick to the young one's, I know that if you get frustrated and cranky with a older student they will either tell you off or just won't come back to the school and that's no good for anyone and that seems to me to be what has happened to the guy from the magazine. Being respected and being taught is the key..not being talked too like a naughty school boy or girl..and making it FUN..that's the ticket IMO David
  12. I think that an e book would be good but I think your story is good enough to be published in the normal way, find an editor get it the best it can be and then I would guess you would then send it to different publishing companies, I think it's a great story and it is worth the effort, I really see it as the only real way to make good money out of your efforts. Maybe you could go in other directions if no one picks it up, but imagine if it is a success, I could see a movie then...can I be an extra??? David
  13. Another good episode...like you say short..but good..
  14. I think Rob has just come in here to tease us all... where have you gone Rob, you give us this good news about a new Gazelle coming and then nothing more ????? David
  15. Well I have never met John personally but I have just recently had a couple of phone conversations with him about a couple of things and he sounded like an alright sort of person to me if that means anything. David
  16. Hi Mark, Welcome mate.. David
  17. Yes that's great, a good selection of aircraft and great prices the beginner to start flying, it shows that they are thinking of the affordability of their students and I think because of that more can afford to fly with them which is great for their cash flow too, I'm sure. David
  18. Well I can say I don't need a new shiny plane for $250 per hour say when I am in training and I would much prefer to train in a Gazelle at $180 per hours or less, maybe when I am finished my training and I get more experience then I would probably look at a faster aeroplane but not now. I wish that flying schools would have more options for students. David
  19. I personally think that the mining boom with it's high pay scales has lifted up the average wage, I don't think that $1200 per week is a true indication of the average wage in the suburbs outside of the mining areas... I have worked up in Emerald, QLD, for a time and people have money there no doubt, when you see young 18 yr old guys running aound in 60K Holden utes you just know it must be true, and when I talked to the CFI/owner of a flying school in Emerald he said he's that busy he needed to put on more staff. So you are right, if you earn big money, you are prepared to pay more to do the things you enjoy and the owner of the flying school is more than happy to take your money...that's business.. David
  20. I think you guys are on the wrong forum...I have seen a fencing forum somewhere..this section of this forum is for "Student Training and Further Learning" & costs for training also information on learning to fly, I don't see anything about foils and fencing.. David
  21. I am going to need a slasher to cut my grass soon and I only have 800 sq mts...I am sick of it too...enough now... David
  22. Based on other prices in this thread that is high that's for sure, do you have any other schools in Gladstone to compare it with? It could also be that you are in the middle of the mining boom area and the owners of the school know there is lots of money in the area, good place to make a money for all businesses I would say, so why not a flying school. I would think if you are flying in and out of Gladstone airport there would be some fairly high landing fee's etc being a fly in fly out airport for the mining companies. I would be looking around and comparing prices and what you are getting for your money.. David
  23. Looking forward to seeing some spec's and pic's Rob ???? David
