  1. Anyone going to AusFly for the day leaving from Caboolture or wanting to stop in a pick me up on your way through, I can share the costs with you..PM me and I can give you a call if you are interested. David
  2. I didn't say that's all he did Maj, he flew to Canada from England as well, I was only trying point out that Hinkler was in his 30's when he did those achievments and a lot older and with more experience that Ryan, that's all. I am not wanting to debate who is the better pilot, you are not comparing apples with apples are you, it is like trying to compare the great Don Bradman with any of our modern day cricketers..a different era and can't be compared like that, apart from what I originally started my comments with.. Congrats Ryan on a great acheivement and to hold the world record of being the youngest person to go solo around the world in a single engine aircraft is something to be proud of..that's all I wanted to say..ok.. God.. I think some of you guys enjoy stirring people up... David
  3. Sorry I will take the mate back then..happy now..geezzzzz This started off a congrats for a young man that did something special, whether you agree with that or not and as normally happens here it has been side tracked to something completely different to the intended theme... David
  4. Yes mate but they had to put their lives in danger, they had no choice as 19yrs olds.. Yes of course they are, everyone who gets off their bums and does something and just doesn't talk about it or let their disabilties prevent them for achieving their dreams are inspirational people.. No matter how you look at it he has the record no matter what he flew and I think it's great .. David
  5. Why can't you just say well done to the 19yr old young guy, why is everyone so focused on what he is wearing ??? Bert Hinkler only flew from England to Australia and he was in his mid 30's I think when he did that...is this the tall poppy thing again or is this just this forum...Come on Maj give him a little credit... David
  6. Just watched this great story, how proud would you be if it were your son..very I would say, who cares what bars he has on his shoulder, this young man is what the Australian pioneering spirit is all about and it makes me proud to be an Australian watching him achieve his dream, if you don't get inspired by that story, well you are hard to please...Well done Ryan you did Australia proud !!!!! David
  7. Jabiru should NOT fold or have any problems provided they has intiated the correct business management practices as other people here have described in earlier threads, for God sake it is their product and if the engine or any other part of the aircraft prove to have a major fault safety in the engine or airframe it is their responsibilty to repair it and make it good at NO cost to the consumer, provided that the owner of the aircraft has followed correct proceedures set out by the factory since he bought it, these aircraft are not $200 items, they are expensive items that people have paid their hard earned for and they should expect a warranty and expect that their aircraft be fixed by the manufacturer at Jab's cost, how can this be any other way...
  8. The problem is Nev, people that own a Jab they may be short of money and or don't read the updates of the fixes that need to be done on their aircraft and continue to fly the aircraft or then on sell it to some unsuspecting person and this fix is not done, so what happens in the even of an accident and the plane falls out of the sky into a house and kills the people inside as well as the pilot, the insurance company checks it and finds out that the MOD wasn't done and that was the cause, of course the insurance company drops the claim like a hot potato, who is then open to law suits, I don't know, but it would not be a good situation to anyone involved and all because the "fix" was not done at the factories cost..I don't claim to be any expert but like I said, it just doesn't sound right to me that the owners have to fork out to get it fixed, you Jab owners must have a lots of money if you find all of this ok.. David
  9. I don't think that is a valid arguement, if they are in the business of making aircraft they must take responsibility for what they manufacture to be well engineered and safe, now if it is found that they have made an engineering mistake well it's dam well up to them to fix it at their cost, yes I accept that they are a small company and this sort of repair to a lot of their aircraft is going to hurt financially but that is the business they are in surely they could have insurance for this just for this type of incident? If any company is not made to repair this out out of their own pocket, well to me, that gives them no incentive to improve and develop their product IMO. David
  10. Surely if Jabiru have found that there is a serious fault in their engine that could cause an engine failure and like they do with cars they call for these things to be fixed at the factories cost and further to that as long as it is done my a qualified person that the cost would be passed on to them, why should anyone have to pay for this repair out of their own pocket whether it be done in the factory of not, I know if I owned a jab that needed this fix I would be jumping on Jabiru to fix it at their cost.. shouldn't it work like that? David
  11. So what would a Foxbat with floats be worth? & where would you be able to get the training for it? anyone know? David
  12. Hi eightyknots And to all that are interested in the new Gazelle, I will be going up to Coolum early next week on business so I will drop by Coastal Aviation on the way home and see if I can get some new info about thier progress, I will let you know what I find out.... keep tuned.. David
  13. How many here that object to Ian having their contact details go down to the shopping centre (or their wives without them knowing) and enter competitions and the like and happily fill in their details to win a tinney and a carton of beer or something like that...now that's a worry who is getting all of that info? I don't think you have no problem here with security when you think of all the other companies etc that have your details, if you are worried about your details being stolen from here, I think this site is the least of your problems imo... David
  14. Hi Keith, Yes similar story as most of you and the other guys except mine has a little twist, I am 55 yrs old always wanted to fly, a couple of years I started and then stopped and started again, last year in November I started up again and I was doing one lesson a week with Go Fly up here in Caboolture with a couple of great instructors I was going ok I think, I am pretty hard on myself, I had up about 15 hrs up and my wife had an accident in a shopping centre, bang could not get back to my flying lessons after that happened, the wife does come first and so do the bills that come along with the accident and with our legal system it will take years to recoup and money for the shopping centre. I am disappointed that I have not been able to get back yet BUT I will be hopefully soon...Neil ???...I hope that I have not forgottem to much when I do get back to my flying..I know the boys at up here in Caboolture will get me back up to speed fairly quickly I hope...well for an older student..I did NOT say old... David
  15. Hi Rob, I wondering if you have any updates on the new Gazelle? David
  16. You would have to think that when the owner got it back he would have certainly got the engine pulled down and checked, assumingly he bought it back off the insurance company to re build ????It would be interesting to talk to the owner...I just wonder if he is staying quiet on the cause for some reason?? David
  17. Maybe your filter works both ways rocket. ?????? David
  18. I don't know Flybybne, I can still see your post from yesterday, must be a problem in your system somewhere ? David
  19. Flybybne, so what happened to the aircraft after the accident, did the insurance company take it away never to be seen again? It just seems unbelieveable that an accident like this happened and no one seems to want find out what caused the engine failure or if someone did find out that it was not reported to the general flying community so we can all take the appropiate action with the aircraft that we may own and fly. I think this is one of the major problems we have within our sport is the investigation of accidents and thank God you and your wife are ok Flybybne and as for your peace of mind I would think that you would like to know why it happened on that day for sure. David
  20. Hi Flybybne, So you never found out what the cause of the engine failure was? David
  21. Don't worry Gforce I made that spelling mistake too..duel for dual... we have lots of school teachers on this site that watch every word we all right for spellin mistakes... David
  22. As I have said in here before, why do students need 80 to 100k + aircraft for training, I certainly don't... it seems to me that there are cheaper and just as safe as the more expensive aircraft around right now. So I think it would be good opportunity for the schools to look at these cheaper aircraft when their existing fleet come up for replacement, then by buying these cheaper aircraft they can pass on the savings to their students, sounds good to me !!! David
  23. How about the Frontier it is a side by side config .... David
  24. Hey M6, I see you are using the microsoft controller and you have extended the handle and built a gadget for the throttle but what are they pedals or did you make them, I don't recognise them and then how did you set them up wiring wise? David
