  1. This is why we fit Rivnut nutserts and bolts on three sides of the tank covers as we build them. The only side not bolted on is along the main spar because the rivnut requires a larger hole to be drilled and this would threaten the integrity of the wing spar.
  2. If you piss in the wind, Aim down wind or you will get wet shoes when the wind speed exceeds the velocity of your stream. Haven't any of you been fishing at sea?
  3. I hope so. How are his repairs coming along? His motor is for sale on the raa classified ads so I have been waiting until I get all the paper work sorted.
  4. I had to have a LAME do a final inspection. Due to my location, he recommended extension of the 50nm test area to 60nm. So I have to fly off 25hours within that radius off my hangar then apply for full registration. Ten business days after I climb through the last hoop we should be good to go.
  5. Nearly got the paperwork beat, fingers crossed I will have a permit to fly in the next 10 business days.
  6. The Glider Tug version has quite a bit more structure than the nose wheel fuselage so they wouldn't be shy about beefing up the area around the tailwheel and forward of the CofG in the area of the forward gear.
  7. This is the factory supplied parts that I ordered with my kit. Very similar to Reg's Aerokits ones he scratch built for the two he did before ICP took it up for their taildragger. Their heavy fibreglass tip is a bit neater that the fin and rudder cap that Reg initially welded together for the job.
  8. It is common for pump suction to be larger diameter than delivery but the difference usually greater than 1mm. When Aerokits here in Australia were supplying replacement hose with low vapour loss, there were only two sizes. Reg supplied the same to me when I bought my kit and I binned the supplied hoses and used the low loss hose from the start. I am sorry I can't recall what size they were but am nearly certain they were imperial sizing.
  9. We had breakfast with Des at Monto and off he went. Makes that lesson easier for me to remember! It is shocking to think how many of the regulars at flyins in this era have left us since then in these sort of circumstances. The guys who ate with these guys before they left will particularly remember this lesson. Let's hope the lessons come to mind when the cloud is closing in and stress is rising in the cockpit. Gethomeitis is not confined to aviation but seems to treat aviators more harshly than average. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Queensland_DH.84_Dragon_crash&ved=2ahUKEwjt0tP1l4fnAhVdIbcAHVv8DawQFjAEegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw26kSPj_eeD3HuYdK3fPDDS
  10. When you are eighty and running out of years, don't you do everything faster if it doesn't hurt too much. It is like when checkout operator at the supermarket stops serving to serve on the nearby smokes counter I never get offended. The customers at the smokes counter have less time left so they don't have time to wait!
  11. Not yet I hope! He has to get my BFR and IFA prop endorsement done before he is allowed to retire.
  12. Found the other half! Now final inspection complete a just getting acceptable paperwork through RAA for a Permit to Test Fly.
  13. Military airspace is like nuclear reactors, great idea as long as they aren't in my backyard!
  14. I considered posting this story under the title "Fraser Islands plane crash caused by drunk fisherman!" The statement about the frequency of sand bogging is going to do nothing to improve the operators insurance premiums.
  15. This would be part of the reason they kept him circling for an hour, to get the right people in the tower where he needed them. The other would be to get the fire trucks fuelled up.
  16. Mine are pulling on the retaining rivets, so no risk of a gap. If they pop the heads off the rivets I will use them for a pattern to make a couple of thicker ones.
  17. Does it seem strange to anyone other than me that the factory supplied( in my case factory fitted) 600 Kg upgrade spacers are of a thinner aluminium section than the clevis on the strut which straddles the two wing attachment plates that the upgrade plate is rivetted in between. The result is that the attachment plates have a lot of stress on them at the closest rivet on the upgrade plate. It feels like the upgrade plate should be the same thickness as the strut clevis.
  18. Glad to see that white on the leading edge, It scares me to see the wrinkles popping in and out in the sunshine on a nice dark purple or dark blue leading edge as it expands and contracts. Ever bent an aluminium can back and forth two or three times?
  19. I have been waiting for you, what has taken you so long? I am waiting for Mark's instructor to finish a few repairs and get his mind back on instructing and we will take care of the non-currency.
  20. Cowlings of the same period required a hell of a lot of preparation before painting, at most they were a scaffold to build fill onto. Gel coat is heavy no doubt but by the time they were bogged up enough to paint, I wonder how much weight advantage remained. On the build wiring strobes to controller, fit 3A circuit breakers to Radio and C/S prop, fit rego decals, fit battery and add fuel. I have done my Weight and Balance course so will drain to unusable fuel, Weigh and get L4 inspection done and then it will be just paperwork. I am badly non-current on my licence so will have to do some refreshment with an instructor and get my BFR done too.
  21. Good to see they have moved away from the one piece fibreglass wingtip. Mine (13-05) are some of the last fibreglass forward, aluminium to the rear. Looking at the PITA that the full fibreglass tips cause to get anything like a decent fit, it is a good move. ICP are not shy about evolving their design, continually seeking improvement. It would make the parts inventory a problem to keep track of. I also took up the extended rudder which was designed at Aerokits Yetman factory and adopted by ICP for their tail dragger version of the Savannah S.
  22. Just had a look around the internet, looks like Xcom has gone the way of the DODO which is a shame if true.
  23. I stand thoroughly corrected, only saw what was on TV, no NBN internet out here!
