  1. No point talking about him anymore, read post #106 again, he is unlistening!
  2. Early gyros looked a lot like those women as they headed off into the blue. As a 22 year old I watched about five of them leave Homehill aerodrome most Sunday mornings. From memory the guru was named Bert Larkin.
  3. Bill Grieve moved his mobile flight school down to my airstrip about three years ago, I had a very enjoyable 12 days in his Savannah XL, almost forgot to mention that.
  4. First flight was at the age of 17 on a Kawasaki KL250. I hit a roo just on dusk, flew through the air for what felt like minutes and when I landed I was pleasantly surprised to discover I was still alive.
  5. My kit only had these pipes for coolant in about 1" size. They are good for travel past hot exhaust within the limits of their durability with vibration. I don't see any gain in using the small ones in the fuel system at all.
  6. Canam Defender HD8, my wifes mother's day present, she loves it.
  7. The build has stalled....I have about 40 hours up on my other Rotax already though.
  8. Definitive for which serial number? The parts in my kit will be quite different to the parts in yours when you get it. ICP have made many small changes in the last four years to the S model. The change to remove the throttle controls to the fixed portion of the dash and double width single piece extended tank covers(which I ordered with my kit) for instance were definite improvements right after my kit was shipped. The adjustable seats and corrugated fuel pipes not such and advantage.
  9. Finally we understand the problem with the manuals. They were written by itALIENs.
  10. Reg reinforced the rear edge of the fin with two angle stringers too, but I was interested to see that they didn't deem them necessary to accommodate the added load on the fin from the extended rudder.
  11. I have been having a hold up with my priming waiting for a new pipe for my Toolex compressor so I can get reliable pressure. The failed pipe is this same stainless pipe with formed ends and has cracked through one of the corrugations. Hasn't given me much confidence in it's durability where there is vibration.
  12. Well maybe ICP wasted their 300 grand that they spent on their design software then. I am always skeptical about some of the "refinements" that we do to make things look better, without running the mods through the design software. The exception was the rudder extension mod, which I would have done anyway, since it offered a lot of function as well as the look. Coincidently the factory version was nearly identical to the Aerokits scratch built version when the parts arrived. I wonder how that happened.
  13. It is a fun job, even with his purpose built press and formers. Even having been involved in forming the corners for a couple of builds I didn't use it for my own build even though it was available and local. I believe the "pillow" shaped panels are attractive and will help quieten the fuselage at takeoff. That is how they designed to be, stressed!
  14. Haven't seen it done anywhere I have been.
  15. 2x Motorcycle Headlight 15W CREE XML T6 LED Spotlight Driving Foglight Spot Lamp | eBay one of these may install straight into the landing light enclosure on a Savannah.
  16. I was initially going to suggest the same but it will not address the problem of the holes now being further than intended from the bend. Now expect the holes in the skin not to align with the holes in the spar. This will end up being the only line of rivets on the whole wing which doesn't appear precisely straight to look along the line.
  17. Well you could have done a lot worse!
  18. The radius of the bend on the sheet metal part looks like it got away on the bender. The holes in the part on the left and right spars would be exactly the same, just bent the opposite way, this bend has slipped during manufacture by the look of it. That will mean that the holes will now be further from the bend and won't line up with the holes in the sheet so well either.
  19. Engine installation is still pretty much glossed over in favor of "refer to engine manufacturers installation manual" which is far less approachable for an amateur builder, making this phase of the build far more daunting than earlier phases.
  20. Absolutely... The explanatory photographs are usually on the following page rather than the facing page, which would be more useful. Otherwise there is much less of "be careful not to the making of the confusion" a quote maybe from a later VG manual, much of this left us with the XL and S model manuals.
  21. Got an angle grinder and a welder?
  22. One guru here in Australia installs a stronger spring under the flap release knob to make it hold in the slot more positively, if that helps.
  23. So now I am Google's bitch...tech life seems to be like that, you get owned if you want to play. There is little joy for early adopters of second string technologies, hence my comment about the VCR, but I doubt there is any more joy for an adopter of a late entry(on mobile devices) third string technology. All you can hope is that it is the next big thing and that Apple and Android get consigned to the Beta VCR basket. Good luck with that.
