  1. Two things Hank. All your deburring has to be done before putting on the Alodine. And to do large sheets Tom Cadet uses a frame knocked up out of 4x2 framing timber and lays a sheet of plastic in the frame on top of a bench to form a large shallow pond. Take care not to pierce the sheet with the corners of your sheets (2 people).
  2. Everyone does. Just quicker on the beach. How would it go on the engine castings?, they always get dull quickly at the beach too.
  3. How would those nice shiny rims go in the alodine?
  4. To be perfectly fair I moved my mother out before I started building mine in her lounge room.
  5. I counted five hundred of each size rivets in my savannah kit and weighed the balance. It was the only way to finally prove ICP were being tight with the rivets. turns out there were plenty of rivets for a standard build but the extra fuel tanks, baggage compartment extension, rudder extension and so on were putting strain on the supply, so every builder was coming up short. Depending on how many factory options added the problem just got worse. The distributor supplied the extras needed and all was good.
  6. Has anybody been able to get FSX to install on a Windows 10 computer? Mine will not install the base disk, Acceleration pack always was fussy about installing. I am worried Microsoft's planned obsolescence program may have claimed another victim. Is there a work around to get this to install?
  7. ICP do most of the bolts for Savannah kits just like you describe now, they haven't always been like that but got a lot easier to deal with once they were. There is still a portion of the hardware supplied in a random lucky dip bag, mostly around the engine installation, it is a bit of a nightmare for a first time builder. The bill of materials linked to the parts list would be a big improvement on what they do now. There is a parts list at the beginning of each build chapter but it is notoriously incomplete particularly where kit improvements are concerned.
  8. If you are coming all the way down here to pick it up I will try to venture over to say hello.
  9. You will be having a nice drive in the country then...or is it in storage in Brisbane?
  10. No point talking about him anymore, read post #106 again, he is unlistening!
  11. Early gyros looked a lot like those women as they headed off into the blue. As a 22 year old I watched about five of them leave Homehill aerodrome most Sunday mornings. From memory the guru was named Bert Larkin.
  12. Bill Grieve moved his mobile flight school down to my airstrip about three years ago, I had a very enjoyable 12 days in his Savannah XL, almost forgot to mention that.
  13. First flight was at the age of 17 on a Kawasaki KL250. I hit a roo just on dusk, flew through the air for what felt like minutes and when I landed I was pleasantly surprised to discover I was still alive.
  14. My kit only had these pipes for coolant in about 1" size. They are good for travel past hot exhaust within the limits of their durability with vibration. I don't see any gain in using the small ones in the fuel system at all.
  15. Canam Defender HD8, my wifes mother's day present, she loves it.
  16. The build has stalled....I have about 40 hours up on my other Rotax already though.
  17. Definitive for which serial number? The parts in my kit will be quite different to the parts in yours when you get it. ICP have made many small changes in the last four years to the S model. The change to remove the throttle controls to the fixed portion of the dash and double width single piece extended tank covers(which I ordered with my kit) for instance were definite improvements right after my kit was shipped. The adjustable seats and corrugated fuel pipes not such and advantage.
  18. Finally we understand the problem with the manuals. They were written by itALIENs.
  19. Reg reinforced the rear edge of the fin with two angle stringers too, but I was interested to see that they didn't deem them necessary to accommodate the added load on the fin from the extended rudder.
  20. I have been having a hold up with my priming waiting for a new pipe for my Toolex compressor so I can get reliable pressure. The failed pipe is this same stainless pipe with formed ends and has cracked through one of the corrugations. Hasn't given me much confidence in it's durability where there is vibration.
  21. Well maybe ICP wasted their 300 grand that they spent on their design software then. I am always skeptical about some of the "refinements" that we do to make things look better, without running the mods through the design software. The exception was the rudder extension mod, which I would have done anyway, since it offered a lot of function as well as the look. Coincidently the factory version was nearly identical to the Aerokits scratch built version when the parts arrived. I wonder how that happened.
  22. It is a fun job, even with his purpose built press and formers. Even having been involved in forming the corners for a couple of builds I didn't use it for my own build even though it was available and local. I believe the "pillow" shaped panels are attractive and will help quieten the fuselage at takeoff. That is how they designed to be, stressed!
  23. Haven't seen it done anywhere I have been.
  24. 2x Motorcycle Headlight 15W CREE XML T6 LED Spotlight Driving Foglight Spot Lamp | eBay one of these may install straight into the landing light enclosure on a Savannah.
