  1. Stick and rudder one of my aero bibles.....
  2. Met the guy a few times at various sites, liked him. Admire his rise and get up and go. Dont really care what other think, I take people as I find them.
  3. same here, fly left hand on the stick, right hand throttle. but I am right handed.
  4. Competition aircraft are the american company who sell the eqivalent design, it does vary in some small ways. I have bought parts from them before, and do follow the recommendation but as far as I know there are no specs for the australian made version that was bought out, and not now manufactures by bolly. I agree, anyone with any common sense would follow at least a basic maintanence schedule on their prop, it was the lack of info from the original local manufacturer I was commenting on. (case in point, the pitch blocks from the american manufacturer have to be redrilled to handle the Oz supplied bolts etc.
  5. be a bug.er to do a valve grind on....
  6. The site insists I create an account which to be is stupid. I dont want to sign into a commercial site just to get my monthly magazine.
  7. Just a question, how do you judge the distance from cloud base without actually flying to cloud base and noting it (illegal). Relying on the aviation weathjer forcast is fine but conditions change?
  8. The Lt T L Baileau was later to be in charge of the air force flying school at Narromine during ww2. His memorabilia are in that museum. His son, Tim Bailleau recently passed away at the family property (Tongy station) at Cassilas in NSW.
  9. Just rang Raa Aus and confirmed current price for members ASIC is $200.
  10. Raa Aus quoting $200, cheaper than Casa by 0.50c and $20 cheaper than airport one.
  11. I thought that editor and Raa Aus and others said there were'nt any ramp checks on the day, who is correct and is this an anti CASA rant. What are the facts before emotions run rampant.
  12. The ASIC's application form is on the Raa Aus website, look under forms on the main page about half way down.
  13. Didnt pay 180k for a new plane, didnt pay 30k for one either. Built the thing on a budget (remember them, building on a a budget???) object to paying $60 for a document that I thought was covered by my membership. After all, membership increased, temora cancelled, magazine cancelled (what the hell is isuuu.com), new regs and rules. Bu..er this, I am going flying.
  14. Obviously you support the efforts of members to have a flyin of our own and Narromine obviously worked for you then. Only a rotting corpse because members did not support it, did not appreciate the efforts put into organising it and didnt want to get away from big brother and have our own flyin. Your helpful comments and commentary are appreciated. Did you actually attend Temora at any time.?
  15. Apart from sat avo light showers, weather looked good at Temora....just sayin...
  16. i found that raa were very helpful when i built my aircraft. very good advice.
  17. Phil, I hope the cab heater was not the style that tended to kill people with fumes if the exhaust broke?
  18. Started gliding in 1968 in NZ and the them and us was well and truly alive then. The only good ones were the ex fighter pilots (1967 remember) who maintained that gliding increased their flying skills and made them more weather aware and lift aware to save fuel. Made them very precise pilots too, which wasn't a bad thing. Put the 2 (power and sail) together and you have a great training scheme. The Them and Us attitude at the airfield is to their detriment, not yours.
  19. 2 seconds, sorry, my mitsake, 1.5 seconds
  20. The provision of 3 bladed props for gazelles involved in training schools is maybe a case for this rule change. The 2 blade props are nigh on impossible to find and a valuable training aircraft is languishing because of a propeller issue. Is this the thrust of these changes?
  21. So far CASA have stuffed up the resale on Jabiru's, RAA have just stuffed up the resale on 19...reg aircraft, make you wonder what the overall plan is and who is writing it?......just sayin
  22. Ron, the rules say 51%, not a rebuild. Run it past the tyech manager.
  23. Oscar, that is why the aircraft are registered as a 19... aircraft. They are owner built assembled and all that goes with that. If someone buys a 19 reg aircraft then it is buyer beware, On the other hand, if you buy a 24... reg aircraft then you are trusting that the "qualified " person working on it actually knows what they are doing and in some cases this is a little on the scary side. The average 19.. builder has a solid vested interest in doing the maintenance correctly as it is their a..se on the line, not just a weekly wage. A 19.. reg aircraft is just that..an amateur built aircraft.. and anyone buying it must realise that. Any amount of regulations is not going to make people instantly responsible. Amateur built is amateur built, professional built is different. Your term "good enough" worries the hell out of me, surely the aircraft should be built correctly and time taken to make it as good as you can, commercial interests aside. 19.. reg and 24.. reg are 2 different beasts and in my experience, most (not all) 19 reg are superior to the 24 built standards.
