  1. The earths magnetic poles are constantly on the move, the movement happen in Geological time so very very slowly. If you are worried google " Standard magnetic deviation" to see any changes. In the history of the earth (geological) the poles have moved and flippedmany times. The magnetic deviation is one way of measuring the age of the earth. Because the changes take place very slowly.....DONT PANIC...it will be eons before the changes become a problem. lol
  2. There has been a much spruiked about alternate organisation that was trying to get off the ground. Lately there has been a deafening silence about progress. Given the current dissatisfaction by some members with RAA Aus and their privacy, finance, abd other changes, one would think the push would be on for the alternate to become a reality...any info?
  3. sounds like its time for another grass roots organisation dedicated to just flying lightweight aircraft for fun. We appear to be in danger of being regulated to death as an organisation. Vested interests and corporates seem intent on pushing their interests at the expense of the grass roots, just wanna fly, members. This is rapidly becoming a vehicle for self interest, barrow pushing and empire building. Just saying.
  4. Alf, the crookwell strip is good and closer. Just remember it can be a one way strip depending on the wind. Nice grass cover and very long. Designed for fire fighting etc. Could very well be an option.
  5. No love involved, purely money. Long history since the purchase of the airport with battles with owners and pilots.
  6. Tried to find it a few years ago, does not exist as a usable strip. Nearest would be goulburn or a private unlisted strip.
  7. Agree, if it aint broken, dont fix it. This site is known as Recreational Flying and covers that area nicely. Aircraft pilots is a bland name that does not appeal to my sense of belonging etc at all.
  8. Works great on my PC, Ipad and my android samsung J2pro phone. Looks good and easy to use. No problems here Ian.
  9. that is a fact, concentrate on flying the plane, not scrambling around the cockpit pooking for the fire equipement. Given the space in the average ultralight cockpit, letting go od the controls in an emergency is just plain DUMB...
  10. Its all abouit being heard and seen. I always give circuit calls even at uncontrolled/ empty country airfeilds. After 2 or 3 close calls with aircraft not giving calls, I always do. Better alive and silly than dead and right.
  11. the plethora of discounted tickets from Ra Aus seems to indicate slow sales???
  12. I came to an agreement with the private operator of our local airfield of a fixed yearly sum, I also used to pay the council a fixed yearly sum per aircraft to use the airport. The cost was reasonable and allowed us to fly and went towards the airport maintanence. I have never objected to paying "reasonable" landing fees but some councils and operators get greedy and thats why people start to bypass fees. Set it reasonable and they will come...
  13. Sounds good but because operators do not provide mogas at aerodromes and some engines use it (2 strokes etc) I think discrimination etc would raise its head.
  14. He would obviously be still paying his hanger fees so ask john, the owner, where he is?
  15. Local airports are seen by councils as a source of ready free money when they are sold. Users etc dont matter, its all about the bottom line these days. Our local airport is now privately owned and it o-pened a can of worms with the purchaser trying to gouge money out of hanger owners etc for services alraedy in place, and access to runways. The airport is falling apart, looks like crap and does not have a good feel any more. Try suggesting local councils sell football feilds and sports grounds and see how far you get. Greed pure and simple.
  16. Used to..(belongs to) Slartibartfast ( last posted 2016)
  17. This aircraft attended many of the flyins and was seen at most, if not all, events for a few years. The then owner was as keen as mustard. Canberra public servant so may be on transfer etc etc. Nice chap.
  18. Theres an aircraft I knew for a while, havent seen it for a couple of years now. Was very impressed with it, and its pilot.
  19. Used to carry camping gear, airbed collapsed, cooking gear and fueling stuff etc on the floor and seat on the passenger side (removed the second stick so it would not be interferred with.) Flew all over NSW as far as Camerons corner and Broken hill as well as the north of the state (Inverell and Armidale ) from Goulburn in this configuration. Never had a problem and never over weight.
  20. I only used one jerry can (20lts) and just used a suitcase trolley (5 inch about wheels. Carried it collapsed with my camping gear on the passengers side. Flew an Xair standard. Plenty of room in the cab for a rag and tube.
  21. Collapsible jerry can and collapsible suitcase trolley for that walk into town if needed.
  22. yep we are, I suggested carry carnet and credfit card. Worked for me all over NSW etc (including the outback...dont quite get the drift of the discussion. If Avgas aint available, use unleaded premium and carry additive if necessary in the boot.
  23. why not get a suit of carnet cards and carry a credit card as well. Covers all bases.
