  1. be fun doing a grandads axe restoration using the aircraft as a template. As long as the price was right (basically transport plus a carton of the liquid amber)
  2. Grew up in the north of NZ at the height of the Fletcher/DC3 top dressing era. Loved to watch the pilots land and take off from ridiculously steep farm strips. Very quick turn around as well. There is a site dedicated to ag pilots in NZ, especially the fletchers and DC3's. These guys, and their Oz counterparts put skill and daredevil back into flying. Awesome to watch them at work. (the DC3's were used as top dressing aircaraft mainly by James Aviation in the north of NZ, but one or two others were also used by different companies. They went out of vogue in the early 1970's) The fletchers are tried and true, Looking at that country, now you know why the All Blacks were such an awesome force in that era, farmers running up and down that sort of country all day. .
  3. The Xair 582 also has the advantage of being able to add a "camel Hump" onto the fuel tank to increase the fuel capacity. I did this and added 40lts (tot 92lts) to the Xair. Because the mass is centred on the cross member under your backside, the cog moved about 4cm, still well withing rating. Just be very carefull making the camel humps as the type of resin etc is critical.) I have flown both, the 618 flaps was slightly faster, but still found no use for the flaps, the 582 std was brilliant if about 5kts slower. Great aircraft, slow but very forgiving. Travell most of NSW in mine from Goulburn to Br/Hill, Cameron corner, Inverell, Armidale etc. The take off and landing rolls in both are ridiculously short. Great suspension, great rough paddock landing aircraft.
  4. self interest and greed are alive and well and thriving in the OZ system...lol
  5. I did mine last year and am due next year. No problems here FT.
  6. seems to me to be about standard for most councils that want to get short term dollars instead of people and activity into an area. Either that, or sell it to make a short term gain at the expense of the using public. People don't matter any more, the country is being run by greed and accountants hell bent on making a profit at any cost.
  7. If you built the aircraft you can be trained in it. I did it and had no problems. Check with RAA Aus .
  8. I am surprised that you did not train in your 19 reg aircraft.
  9. I think your definition of a bigot needs to be reevaluated. Just because someone votes no in opposition to your supposed line does not make them a bigot, it makes them a follower of their parties line. Rightly or wrongly that's politics, not bigotry...
  10. Carbon torroid in the circuit and a good capacitor across the radio connections plus suppressed plugs. Never had a problem. (I run an XCOM radio and installed the recommended Capacitor...no probs.) Cig plus is also handy when camping as I can run small items off the Aircraft battery.
  11. Installed a standard cigarette lighter and used a USB plug in attachment (standard from supercheap or any car shop. Cig Plug allowed me to use other items (12V) when needed. Worked a charm. Also ran an auxilliary fuel pump off it in flight to transfer fuel from tank to tank. Plugged the Ipad into it in flight and no radio interference or other problems.
  12. This is the same arguement that if I join a motoring organisation then I should be able to hire any of the cars belonging to the motoring organisation...
  13. I agree with the 5 person committee, saves a lot of arguments, and allows Ian more time to develop other sites etc
  14. Turbo, its called apathy and its what they are relying on. Most members, in my view, only join RAA Aus because they have to in order to fly. I believe people like me who are annoyed about what is happenning, are in the minority because most other dont care which leaves the field open for exploitation, empire building and other bovine excrement. I agree turbo but apart from a general revolution, I refuse to take it you know where even thought the crowd are doing so. Rant over.
  15. Given that RAA Aus is trying desperately to take over all recreational aviation in this country, I would be concerned for all the other recreational organisations in the aviation field. Helicopters, gliders, warbirds, SAAA etc. EMPIRE building. procedes apace... Back to topic...this increase in weight, etc presages this I believe.
  16. When given a direction by someone purporting to have authority to make you do something, get the direction in writing quoting the appropriate article and signed by them in whatever capacity they call them selves. , then inform them that you will be seeking legal advice using their written direction as evidence. Sorts the wheat from the chaff very quickly......just sayin.
  17. I repeat, EMPIRE BUILDING!!..., think salaries, ambition, self promotion, etc., all most of the members want is someone to cover RECREATIONAL flying...not semi commercial, heavy, etc.
  18. If you have checked with Raa Aus then what is the point of your post. I understood that was the case but if I am wrong then so be it.
  19. The PERSON owning the aircraft must build a minimum of 51%. for it to be a 19 reg. Not for resale after completion as a 19. If a manufacturer builds an aircraft with a view to selling it, no matter where the parts came from, then 24reg.
  20. If you can drive a car and get a licence, what is the difference in flying a private aircraft. I can understand stringent limits on commercial pilots flying passengers, but why does someone flying locally for fun need the same limits. If you can get your car licence, why not a private flying licence.?
  21. Yep, theres idiots, officious idiots, lunatics and then theres CASA avmed. These guys are a joke. More people are killed on the roads in one year than people killed by medically obese pilots with more than 42 neck measurements through out the history of private flying. Inmates are running asylum now. Empire building procedes apace.
