  1. I have fitted upper surface spoilers into my Jabiru wing covers supplied by Punkinhead. I used the square section foam rubber extrusion used to cover the car roof rack piping as available from Clark Rubber. Pushed into pockets sewn onto the wing covers. Has always worked for me but the wind at Wollongong hasnt yet got to the strength in SA. Will try and post a photo.

    Batteries for jabs

Hi I do not use a solar panel. I did fit an anderson plug to the aircraft to allow an external battery start in case of low battery. Cheers John

Hi I have been using a Full River battery for over 4 years in my Jab since the Odyssey failed. Full River still performing flawlessly. John
  5. Spose they know the ACT is mostly a Controlled Traffic area and already has an airport called Canberra International. If we had CTA no problem to land there. Cheap too. From memory my last time through there was $27 landing fee and $27 day parking.
  6. Merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year to all from Wollongong!

  9. My Jabiru 2200 engine has been running happily since 2003. A very reliable engine
  10. Lets wait until the full details of the cause are available. Cause could be nothing to do with the engine itself. (oil loss etc)
  11. Hi all The Ryco Z386 also is used on my Toyota Corolla 2005 model. Never had a problem yet but when I bought oil and a filter for a my Corolla oil change today I was given a Max WZ386NM (MO125) filter which says on its box that it is made by Daikuan Filter Co (wherever that is) and distributed in Aust by Wesfil Australia. Claimed to be interchangeable with a Z 386. Certainly looks the same as the Ryco Z386. I'll give it a whirl on the Corolla as that will stay ground bound.
  12. Hi Also how about "the Hero Maker" A new book about Paul Brickhill - An Aussie who was in Stalag Luft for the Great Escape and he wrote that book and also Reach for the Sky and The Dam Busters with info from the participants..

  14. In the 70s? the mustang target towers were VH BOZ and BOY. The DC2 was CDZ, later a Sea Venom at Chieftain. On the highway corner in the 60s was the Marshall Airways (Sid Marshall) joy flights area with the Anson and DC2 flying. I took a ride in the Anson. Cheers John

  18. Hot off the CASA press 4.50pm today Part 149 consultation extended to 28 October At the request of the aviation community, consultation on the draft Part 149 regulation and Manual of Standards (MOS) will stay open for an extra week to allow more time for feedback. The extension will help ensure all interested organisations and individuals have sufficient time to review the proposed changes to the arrangements for approved self-administering aviation organisations and provide their considered feedback. Click here to view the draft regulation and MOS in Notice of Proposed Rule Making - NPRM 1502SS and submit an online response. Consultation will close on Friday 28 October.
  19. Just a heads up for members interested. Has everybody had a look at this NPRM and commented to CASA. CASA NPRM 1502SS is said to have the potential to effect most aircraft owner, pilot and maintainer members. The draft for comments and submissions period expires/is due by this Friday 21 October 2016.
  20. Did anyone see the AGM via the link? RA Site says it was experiencing technical difficulties and they were recording for later viewing.
  21. From Jabiru today Dear Jabiru Fleet, Unfortunately, CAMit, who has been a prime supplier of Jabiru machined parts and who recently started making their own engine based on the Jabiru engine, are reported to have closed and receivers appointed. We had been concerned for some time over the level of debt that the CAMit business carried and have done our best to support them with continuing orders despite the dramatic downturn in sporting aviation following the GFC, the appreciation of the Australian dollar and the significant increase in competition with the introduction of the LSA category aircraft. This is a very sad occurrence as we have always done our best to support Australian businesses. Jabiru has always been structured to be able to withstand the wild swings in economic activity and demand for small sporting aircraft and engines that is the norm in the aviation business. We focus on innovative and cost effective design and manufacture using contracted suppliers who can deliver the quality needed for our engines and airframes and at a price that you can afford. The demise of CAMit is a significant blow to the industry but we have adequate stock on hand to keep you flying and are working to quickly fill the gap in our parts supply chain from suitably qualified factories and suppliers. We are continuing to develop the Jabiru engine to further enhance reliability, reduce maintenance and running costs and to continue to deliver an engine at an affordable price. If you have any questions about your Jabiru engine or airframe please contact us. Happy Landings Jabiru Team
  22. Allan@Bendigo said: ↑ There are over 7000 Jab motors around the world with very little or no more spare parts available. I haven't seen anything official yet from Jabiru about their spare parts situation. They may already hold or be able to source adequate supplies. Several Jabiru engines are type certificated or certified by CASA (VA514 etc) and CASA certification may include a requirement by CASA for Jabiru to stock or distribute parts for existing certified engines.
