  1. Wasnt there a mandate from CASA that all aircraft would have to be ADSB compliant by 2020. But about 2017 i think they bailed on enforcing that to some other date to be determined because the cost of everyone would be too high. So I think ADSB will be the norm eventualy anyway it is the cost factor. I know everyone was spewing about the cost back when it was first announced back around 2014/15
  2. Yeah well cheesed off with my great idea of a quick and nasty spray booth....a squall came through late last week and destroyed the frame..folding it over the existing large carport even tough it was tied to the existing carport and tied to start pickets on the other side...it broke all its ropes and tried to go flying So after moping around and swearing at the dog who was looking at me to say..."why?..it wasnt me you fool that thought of it" So I have decided to bite the bullet and put up a carport as I actually do need another. But it wont have any sides. i will use corflute sheets 2.4 x 1.2 and attach them to the outsides when I need to spray in there. Seal the edges with duct tape. There are some nice premade steel skillion sections available and I will just sit on 2.5 mtrs steel posts anchored to the concrete and the roof will butt up to the edge of the existing large carport..all will be come clearer when I get it done. Should take a weekend or or so and it will be done. Just waiting for pricing but I dont expect it to be more that 900 bucks in bits So finally got around to finishing the steel brackets atatched to the rear of the sav fuselage so I can put it in a rotisserie to paint it. I made some angle alu brackets that attach to the fin post and tailpane mounts also on the steel frame there are 2 square sections that get bolted to the 2 lower rudder hinges...its not going anywhere. Just have to make the plate that bolts onto the 4 engine mount spots on the front. It will be ready by the time the carport is done
  3. Yes its a joke..from Brisbane the E airspace finished just east of Chinchilla and just west of Blackwater...and west of Millmerran....These guys obviously dont want anything except RPT flying
  4. To be brutally honest I really dont think any ulralight "needs" as CS prop..the cost well outweighs the advantages
  5. How is that other build going Peter...are you finished?
  6. You have to be carefull with rotax bottom ends...its not the bottom ends its the cases..they frett at the main bearings...you need a 2000 hr TBO engine to make sure you get the later generation case but they can still frett
  7. Its expensive to rebuild a rotax from genuine parts. I can tell you from experience. But its 30k for a new engine...probably cost about 15 to 20k to do a rebuild using Bert Flood for parts. I just rebuilt a 2000 hr 2015 engine for the RANS S-21 but I got a lot of aftermarket parts from the USA from people I know over there. Some of the parts I had no option but to buy from Bert flood like the main slippers...6 of them..$100 each bearing half..The sprag clutch I had to buy the outer not the clutch as that is a motorbike clutch. The seal kit thats all orings and bearing seals etc can be bought here you just need to what you need. The gearbox needs to looked at with clutch and bearings changed every 1000 hrs. Water pump gasket is from a motorbike...pistons and cyclinders cost a fortune too..I fitted a big bore kit from the USA instead. I have a Smodel sav I am almost finished rebuilding and I am fitting a big bore kit to it but it only has 340hrs on it. Best way is try to find a secondhand engine ( with log books) maybe 1000 hrs or so..that will be about 10-12k
  8. Some further information from Eprop The first version of GLORIEUSE is electro-hydraulic, with a system like Flybox in the cockpit. Thereafter, the mechanical part will be compatible with all actuator solutions. A mechanical system (for engines with hollow gearboxes) will be considered later on. No release schedule yet... We are in the middle of a test campaign and we still have technical solutions to validate. A variable pitch propeller will allow shorter take-off and a better rate of climb, but not a higher maximum speed. Ground adjustable pitch E-Props are already the fastest on very fast aircraft, as VL3, Shark, WT9... Please see here => https://blogen.e-props.fr/archives/9362/e-props-better-than-variable-pitch-propellers/
  9. Well I have to disagree on the whistles...maybe our kangaroos are smarter up here...I have a lot of roos down the main road to my farm..they loved to jump in front or go across the road when your coming down the road. Ever since I put a set on the sportage..and now the Triton..everytime I see a roo its hopping away from the edge of the road..never across in front of me or at me. It used to happen all the time here but since using them there has not been even one time they have tried to commit suicide Steve Donald put a set of car airhorns on his savanahh as we have a lot of kangaroos always around the strip at Caboolture especially in the mornings..he gives thm a blast on the horn and they scatter away so it certainly works..its pretty load. The sav I bought back from central NSW to rebuild had a set on it too so the car horns work
  10. The VG is only 520kg or maybe 540kg max. No upgrage to 600 at all If it is amatuer built..go for the tyres 380 mtrs??? you wont use any more than 100 to 130mtrs mtrs normally even shorter once you get better at flying it...down hill well that depends at how good you are at not following the ground down the hill before touch down. Ihave 350mtr strip at my farm and my VG XL takes off uphill in less that 100mtrs..I do have a downhill on landing in one direction but still really only 100mtrs is used Check the video about half way through is a camera angle for landing taken from outside
  11. I spoke with Anne "the CEO of Eprop tonight and she directed me to this new page which there is the link below I gives some more info but no release date or pricing. It looks like it is motorized for this unit being tested https://aircraft.e-props.fr/glorieuse.php?language=en
  12. Ralph at ASAP at caboolture would probably have them...he has so much stuff. he is the one doing the Beaufighter restoration. he isnt the cheapest around but if you want them he probably has them http://www.asapspares.com.au/
  13. My S-21 I have here is a TD..they also have a nose dragger as well and it is built much stronger but for a more rougher strip but you cant beat a TD for anything off field or rough..as Kasper says
  14. The obvious answer to why they have a TD is you can get them in and out of a lot more rougher strips than you can with one that has the training wheel 🙂
  15. My S-21 will be Experimental VH rego if the 760kg doesnt come in by the time its ready to fly so this is why I would need the full transponder...well dont NEED it but I like the satellite coverage side of it. The reason is my wife and I will be travelling around all over Australia just doing it in a aircraft instead of a 4WD and there isnt a lot of coverage of ADSB out in the never never. of course I will have a satphone with me but to be able to be tracked 24/7 when out there I believe is a good thing. Its going to cost 4k a year to insure the aircraft and I think $4500 for a piece of gear that everyone knows where I am is just another good way of see and be seen. Yes the SE2 is only 900 bucks and I may very well stay with it anyway when I get to see how it works for me while flying Mabel around while building the S-21. I like to have all my bases covered and if thats what it cost...that is what it costs
  16. I will be running the SE2 in my rebuilt savaanh when it gets flying. Maybe also in the RANS S-21 when it gets flying. The S-21 mission is a lot more than the sav though so I most likely will go with a full blown transponder. This is the one I like..again from Uavionix. It covers even more with the worldwide satellie system monitoring you as well as the normal terrestrial ground coverage https://www.uavionix.com.au/tailbeaconx-exp-tso/
  17. It feels good to be actually accomplishing things again The spray booth is underway. Its a wedding marquee 6m x 3 mtrs its big enough..was only $110 on ebay...One side is atatched to my carport the other side will be ropes to pegs in the ground. The inside at the bottom on the 2 long sides and the rear will have 70x35 wood alog the inside and on the concrete that will allow the legs to be straight and the external cover to be on the outside. it will also allow me to run the plastic sheet on the floor around and up to the side walls. The end at the workshop will have a wooden frame and a intake fan and filter media in it and there will be a outlet at the back again with filter media. I will be able to roll the parts straight from the workshop into the spray booth. Will get the wood tomorrow from bunnings aerospace and should have it ready to cover hopefully by tuesday
  18. That happened to my favourite slope site as well...now full of houses on Mt Mee about 40km north of Brisbane
  19. I know its not our usual stuff but this is pretty incredible 548mph from a RC glider doing what they call dynamic soaring
  20. This is from a few years ago...I think its a ruski version of the 701/savannah..it does have a name but cant remember it
  21. This was always going to be on the cards..its been coming for years realistically. I actually think its a good idea except the original idea was expensive ADSB systems had big knobs on it. CASA did a discussion group about it and I was one of the 83 respondents. Saying it was a good idea but the objection is the cost. They would have to bring the costs down for it to be implemented in any fashion otherwise there wont be too many private aircraft whether GA or RAA flying due to another enormous cost. I admit I did have a heads up a fair while before this discussion group became public with CASA talking to Air Services about allowing lower cost non certified ADSB onto their system. I was thinking they would allow non certified versions of the normal ADSB stuff as we all know its exactly the same but comes with a bit of paper that says its certified so it costs 3 times more than it actually should. I was expecting Garmin and Trigg units etc to be sold at reasonable prices so there would be a takeup of the systems by pretty much all aircraft. if you kept the cost to about the same or less than a radio then I could see it as a working scenario. I would buy one thats for sure The EC devices took me by surprise totally. i wasnt even aware they existed I believe they are a realistic way of getting everyone seen and will make flying safer...even if Ozrunways wont share their data with Avplan to make the sky a safer place. this is one way to overcome it..not totally but pretty close.
