Sherri its a degenerative conversation forgive them ..................... they know not what they do if they were sheep they would pack into a fence line and smother
  3. glyneoz - its because you are too close to Canberra ..................... a lot of wind gets generated there
  4. A Scotsman walks into the Bank of England in Central London and tells the manager that he is going to Australia on business for two weeks and needs to borrow £5,000. The manager tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so Hamish hands over the keys and documents of a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produces the log book and everything checks out. The manager agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's General Manager and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the rough looking Scotsman for using a £120,000 Ferrari as collateral against a £5000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, Hamish returns, repays the £5,000 and the interest, which comes to £15.41. The manager says "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why would you bother to borrow £5,000?" Hamish replies "Where else in London can I park my car for two weeks for only £15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"
  5. flyerme don't worry about the spelling mate - its what someone says and means; tis what most of want to hear .............. not how its said their wouldn't be one person on hear that hasn't made a spelling mistake somewhere along the line ....................... or would there ??
  6. good conversation and thread ................. its interesting how you can read some comments and initially you can disagree with a view point ......... but further on you can end up agreeing with it whether you are in error or not Flyerme (regarding them clouds) - thanks for the thread - you've created a good safety conversation ........................... and we all learn from that (or we are reminded what we have learnt)
  7. Andy@coffs thanks for that - big subject and lots of parameters .............. no doubt Can't this website arrange collection of proxies - or even conduct a pole to see how many would contibute Seems to me lots read this website so a good 'war chest' should be able to be created ? Or is that a 'no no' & would that antagonise (assuming that the right word to use) RAA further ?
  8. turbo I'd suspect the MAJORITY (me included) don't know these issues - I'd say the majority (me included) will willingly support the betterment of flying Your sumary certainly defines some issues - clearly - thanks ? I've seen some posts that talk about the potential to stop planes flying - are there any specific posts on the subject ? - are there great numbers of planes not or potentially not flying - how big is this problem ? I don't thing Ian has brought my Assoc into disrepute ................. do you think Ian has !
  9. Trouble with this, is ............ its the politics of it all Yes I know our fathers fought in the trenches for these rights but this constitution stuff is as thrilling as the inside of a ping pong ball Perhaps this site could have an indicator like the forest service - Fire danger - 'High to low' RAA board performance - 'Great - not bad - OK - alright - poor - woeful - where the guillotine' I wish there was an easier way that members could voice their opinions without the complications of interpretations, legal advice (god forbid) etc etc I'd be picking the majority out there (me included) don't have the stamina to get involved in it - I'd also guess the majority (me included) don't know the characters on the board or have full knowledge of the real 'nitty gritty' ............... this also lessens any intrigue or complusion to act ?
  10. thats a crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy pilot ......... makes circuits around the field look a bit ....................................... ordinary
  11. OK you blokes ? ........................... out in to the car park and get this sorted
  12. good anecdote kaz3g I was flying with and instructor in a piper tomahawk one day ...... a warm day ........... after a touch and go the tomahawk was not climbing out to well ........... probably a minute or 2 upwind we found the plane went a lot better with carb heat off we both made the same mistake at the same time - but, I'd still call him a good instructor
  13. Yes facthunter - instructors don't have to be your best mate ................ but from 0 to 75 hours (I was a sloowww PPL)the relationship is close - probably for the student than the instructor During training, I believe that even if you have found the bestest instructor ................ you need to fly with others - you need different ideas, techniques etc On the subject of who hogs the controls - these days I always make a point of letting the instructor fly the plane, at some point - they never say no ........ and its good for the cockpit interaction
  14. Instructors ........ touchy subject I've always believed instructors are regular pilots just like the rest ........... they are just more current - and they have the ability to teach .............. some probably don't have liberal lashings of this ability The only instructor that's given me the hebbie gebbies - without exaggeration - NZ - PPL flight - 1 to 2 mile finals - say < than 1000 feet - controlled airport - C152 (probably an aerobat) - he took control ........... full tit - did a loop - handed me control - continued on final to land ! ........... the instructor probably had to break out of the chains that held him - pity he had to involve me in it !
  15. I like the one that goes roughly ................... 'I aim to enjoy my life as best I can - if I fail ........... I'll at least die, trying'
  16. Whhooooooooooooops - summary is - Rotax with 1500 hr (or 2000) life - You can use air switch (take off to landing) to calculate this 1500 - for maintenance its engine time - tacho anyone want to argue - come on then ............ lets:bash: john m - jabbies are different (those without Rotax) - don't go cheating your hours in your log book - all that other stuff
  17. I heard about the unplanned gliding - I was just going strange about the variance in the replies I'm gunna summarize
  18. ? .............................. ! = ?
  19. Kiwi's murder the vowels ...................... Australian's strangle them ............... !
  20. thanks techo's from the above .................. looks like the majority say you can log airswitch time - lift off to landing - for Rotax 912 that's good news ! - the finance ministries budget sheet looks healthier the difference between tacho and airswitch over 1500 hours would easily amount to ..................... (guessing 150 hours)
  21. I know its been discussed before ................. but just tapping into the huge think tank:book: For a Rotax 912 is the engine life (or for some 2000 hrs - whichever) is it Tacho time only ? (in other words you can't use air switch time .......... has to be tacho) Is this correct ? thanks
  22. lets be fatalistic ................ lifes a sexually transmitted terminal disease ! how and when you get to the big landing strip in the sky ................ is to a degree ......... your choice the following won't apply to most of us ?; but any coroners inquest or investigation report - concerning you - won't have any bearing on your own, one way trip, up top - however .............. for the sake of those left behind it would be good that such an investigation says ............................ (don't know how to finish that bit)
  23. I live in Gympie and the average weight per person is 85 kg Nearby Noosa the average weight is 72 kg
  24. Jabiru's lawyers said that, as far as the company was concerned regarding this particular engine, its commercial business was complete when it shipped the engine to the distributor. They also said the Australian company never had reason to expect it would end up in Arizona and never did anything to cause it to enter the state. See above ........... from the article ozzie posted - the law at work ?? - more like the law of deception - could be any aeroplane .............................. BUT I'd say the distributor wouldn't be to happy with Jabiru trying to throw the raw prawn their way
  25. thats a bit tough bushpilot ? I'm more interested in what some one has to say than how its spelt .................... in fact storchy neil seems surrounded in litigation and hopefully at the end of it - with his result - he can educate / warn ALL of us ............................ so we all benefit
