  1. I was Once a Minor but I grew Out of it. I did DIG Opal at one time at Lightning ridge. I know what "Potch and Toe Dirt" are and caught OPAL Fever. Nev
  2. Some People have wives who are Gold Diggers.. Nev
  3. The same backlash can exist in either. Helicals can be quieter running The gear in question is doing a big job and the clearances get worse as the ALLOY CASE expands and the gear has friction so will itself get hot and thin the oil on it.. . The prop is the ONLY flywheel and the four cyl configuration has the worst Piston momentum set up of any Motor.. The Big Lycoming Continental has Active (moving) Counterweights on the crankshaft that cut the torsional vibration forces and the 6 cyl motors don't have the problem so much to start with . I would expect the gears to be ground to profile after the heat treatment to enable close running clearances in the Motors that Use Reduction gears which is only on certain Models. anyhow. Torsional vibration is a big problem anywhere it occurs and you can't feel it. Nev
  4. Don't let your enthusiasm over rule your wisdom. There's only a limited amount anyone can do in one lifetime. No matter HOW BIG your shed is you will fill it. Nev
  5. Look up the Galaxy Admin has just posted. Nev
  6. Get USPS to do a better job. They are the world's WORST. Nev
  7. There used to be rules, but NOW TBOs etc are "all over the Place". You can almost CLAIM anything. The lighter you build the motor THE more stress the Parts are being subject to. . ALL Engines have a life and for a plane It's NOT when it's HAD IT in the normal sense. . Nev
  8. Disappointing outcome, after what would have been a lot of work. Nev
  9. Fantastic effort all round. Nev
  10. At least he hasn't taken up GOLF. . Nev
  11. Needs to be a FAN jet to have much thrust. Nev
  12. It's done all the time. nev
  13. YES. I keep looking from time to time.. V twins have Piston momentum advantages over other configurations. nev
  14. I have not been aware of that. They would be responsive to what a particular Airline wanted with many features like the Logic of the FMS. Few airlines buy a "White tail" off the shelf.. Boeings flagship a version of the 777 has the Biggest engines in the game. Nev
  15. From a Robbo expert I know Just 2 blades is a less than optimal set up. Nev
  16. Engine damage, engine fire. The engine would be common to a lot of planes and sometimes there's optional engines on offer for a Particular Plane. They are all fitted with fire warning and Extinguishing System's 2 Shots and a firewall shutoff.. Nev
  17. You could do a lot worse than Include "Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome" in your perusal List. There's NO time like NOW. Google it. Nev
  18. To listen to High revs like that would frankly tire me out It's OK in a Paramotor as you are too busy to notice the Noise. Its only Power to weight you need not Power per CC.. Some VEE Twin horizontal shaft Industrial motors come close to being suitable. Nev
  19. Look up EOS Quattro. Single cylinder 4 VALVE Oil/air cooled. Light\, Revy economical about 30 HP. 500 Hour life. Nev
  20. 2 stroke s were generally the "thing" for Power/ weight. Nev
  21. The one originally Fitted. A Rotax 447. Nev
  22. Using better technique would have produces better figures. For short landing distances you must not be fast and must touch down early and not float. Get the nosewheel on the ground and Mabe flaps up for extra braking effect. Take off use all of the runway start right at the end . Have tire pressure correct. Take full power on the Brakes and release quickly or do rolling start from the taxiway. Do not hold the stick back during the take off roll as there's more drag. Select flap or no flap to suit each particular situation. Stay in ground effect for best speed build up. Do not do an underspeed climb unless it's of short duration to clear a fence or a Tree stump ditch etc, Check you are getting FULL Power early in the process and carb heat cold. Watch for adverse wind shear if you have any downwind.. Pace out a point on the runway where you must be able to rotate and climb or STOP and abort the take off safely in the distance remaining.
  23. The Engine makes 41.6 HP and is fan air cooled, and a has very good Power/ weight ratio. The exhaust system is draggy. Nev
  24. They will fly with anyone who gets them Up and the plane down FAST. Nev
