  1. One pilot, and 4 friends returning from QLD after sailing a yacht up there , one of the pax was the 2IC of Sydney water police.
  2. LOL, I was at the place where they captured him today, H really must be a great bushman to survive up there.
  3. Im looking at a DJI phantom at around $2k, but have heard there are better with more than 25minutes flight time and thermal imaging.
  4. Hi All, can anyone point me to a reference on the differing thermal properties of aluminium and earth, I am interested to know if an aluminium aircraft would show up against a background of earth with a thermal imaging device? Any help appreciated
  5. Hi all, I am after some help in researching a suitable quad copter and camera system to help search inhospitable terrain. I am currently attempting to put together a funded search for a long missing aircraft and think one of these would be invaluable. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks Turbs, I have zero knowledge on how to set up a donate able fund to pay for this and looking for advice by those that may have before. I have read a lot of the Prune stuff and have been active in researching this long before it was mainstream knowledge, when I was in the defence force I got together with an Army gent from Sydney, CPL Nolan and sought info from Defence, government and police. Over the years I have accrued a lot of info however no one can locate the myriad of witness statements that went to police. Through a few witness's that kept a copy there is a picture developing that the hand rendered radar plot given the day after buy an ATC that was not qualified to use the radar was out one distance ring, correct bearing though. Lots of small things that were discounted due to police having what they thought was definitive proof of location in a supposedly infallible radar paint. Searching for this aircraft is proving to be a great way to motivate my family to explore the outdoors and who knows we may be correct, that's if the Forrest will give up its secret, lol. Interestingly I went passed a hut that Malcolm Naden camped in today, thankfully he's not around...
  7. Motz, Jabiru at one stage a long time ago advised of differing expansion rates between the heads the cylinder barrels and the Case, and mandated an extended warm up period.
  8. Two weeks! wow I'm impressed! explains a lot mate.... back to the books I expect! leave the certified engines to the professionals, you can't insult me! I have no respect for who you portray yourself to be! However you are a dangerous individual , purely because some poor unsuspecting person looking for advice on this site may believe your drivel and pay the consequence. Motz: I'm cool, however I seem to have broken my rule not to argue with idiots! ( they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience) lol
  9. Hi, is anyone on here actively involved with searching for VH-MDX? Presumably missing around Barrington tops for over 30 years. I have amassed a lot of information and currently searching and area near mount Sandon due to witness reports and discounted information. I am interested in setting up some sort of fund to bank role a better search and interested in Ideas on the best way to go.
  10. Oscar: have some decorum mate please, have you ever rebuilt one? I'm sure you have seen one disassembled before! Some of your assessments thus far have been slightly left of fact but some closer to accurate. I admire your passion but not your tone or superiority complex! Obviously its hard to be humble up there on your golden throne with all your books and publications telling you what its like down here with the aircraft engineers working with this product! Qualifications mean nothing against experience mate but I'm sure you have read that somewhere hey? Its hard to take you serious with posts like the above!
  11. Hi Gary, I have been eyeing off this kit for about a year and only came across your webpage last week, I am exteremely interested in your project and am toying with the idea of building one myself. Good luck with the build and keep us informed on progress please?
  12. SDQDI: Well, I thought my name was forchristsake till I was 16!!! ie Forchristsake what now and forchristsake come here! OLD K: I was the LAME you were talking to.
  13. Hi I am amember of the aeroclub and will ask to see if we can get permission for RAA and gyro participants. Last years was fantastic but lacked the rec side of things.
  14. As AVOCET sugggests, check the rotors and dizzy caps, rotors should be glued solid to prevent them rocking on the shaft at certain engine harmonics.
  15. Overhaul manual:- http://www.jabiru.net.au/Manuals/Engine/JEM0001-4_Overhaul_Manual.pdf 7.5.1 Ignition Coils  Ignition coils are fitted with insulating washers between the coil and the mounting post. These are essential as they greatly reduce the operating temperature of the coil, improving its longevity.  Ignition coils must be fitted with the output lead pointing in the direction of propeller rotation. Coils installed backwards may fire with the wrong timing or not work at all.
  16. Also you must ensure that the magnetos are installed in the correct direction.
  17. yeah its running the 100 oil for runin and does go away at oil temps above 50 degrees. I will get a better look at it this weekend when I pull it out
  18. Hi Nev, It has two lifters that are soft, and have an order in to replace them. Was just curious as to other peoples experiences, I have heard this same noise on quite a few jabiru's previously. The two lifters in question have zero preload like they have collapsed internally.

    Soft lifters

Hi I was wondering if some one else has suffered from soft lifters in their jab? My 2200 has an intermittent one per rev ticking noise that comes and goes until the oil temp is over 50 degrees c. Any ways I pulled all rocker covers off as I suspected it sounded like valve train and here's what I found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3m6cFg0vm0
  20. I know of three credible witness reports that stated they saw an aircraft over Nundle turning east at full power and making a banging noise. On that night at the right time, discounted by police at the time but the more I look into it the more it is a possibility.
  21. Gents, in any industry there are terrible examples of bad and abismal workmanship, I know of a LAME that was shut down recently because CASA caught him just signing the maint release and saying he did the work! He got caught due to someone speaking up and not excepting his poor standard! I for one am the first on the phone if I see something that is not up to the standard I expect from a fellow aviator or engineer. Storchy I really feel for you and wish I could help in some way! I joined RAA as an L2 because I wanted to help friends and others afford an aeroplane and to keep it affordable, I dont make much money over what it costs me, but I do make friends and get a buz when I help someone. However, any error of judgement, accidental damage, caused by me or happens under my care has the potential to cost me a fortune, my career, house and ultimately my freedom if bad enough. I am seriously thinking that its not worth it, particularly when needless shackles are placed upon me for no decernable reason and we have a legislative requirement thrown at us without any consultation. It is now time to talk about this and get it sorted, but scarily enough there has been zero consultation just mandated requirements which, as we speak is in the new tech manual sitting with CASA, such a shame that we are not allowed to contribute to the direction of our group. once it is legislated you cant go back!

  23. Geez, take a bex! He's telling his story of a flight where decisions made and followed payed off! Even if he found himself on top with more than 4 he made the right decision to get the helm out of there. No pressonitis no pushing a bad situation, those that assume rules were deliberately broken take a breath! I once shared some video of my 230 landing on the new strip I just made on the property, I got smashed by some deadbeat instructor full of juice from Tasmania, his criticism was completely misguided and wrong and really not nesecary even if his assumptions were right! FFS give Ross a break, easy to judge and criticise his decision making process from the comfort of your assumption generating lounge chair! I thank Ross for sharing his trip with us and hope he does so in the next one.
