  1. Via Jo Nova... “...Researchers Grant et al, put out a call for people to supplement with D during this pandemic, pointing out that this will reduce the incidence of the co-morbidities that are hit hardest by Coronavirus. They also point out that D reduces respiratory tract infections, and is actively involved in our own anti-viral defences in at least three different ways. Vitamin D induces cathelicidin and defensins (polypeptides that our immune system uses like surface-to-air missiles against bacteria or enveloped viruses). D also reduces production of proinflammatory cytokines (the messengers that elict the deadly cascade of inflammation). Vitamin D inhibits cytokines and reduces lung injury and a deficiency contributes to ARDS: ...more and more evidence indicates that vitamin D is involved in regulating various cells of the innate and adaptive immune system [13]. Vitamin D has a broad role in regulating inflammatory responses in models of inflammations [14], [15], [16]. Vitamin D receptor knockout mice which were treated with LPS, displayed a more distinct inflammatory response than wildtype mice [17]. In addition, we previously demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency (VDD) contributed directly to the ARDS… — Zheng et al (2020).....” .
  2. Aerial livestock inspection is a farm job. Looks like yer just got yer self an unpaid job..? .
  3. Wrong. One example: Italy - as has been referenced before in this thread. For several years now their health system has been in a near state of collapse just from the annual flu deaths. Add a bit of hysteria to the mix and... Keep in mind just because a particular country currently has a low record of ChiCom virus it don’t mean they wont get the virus. There’s those that have had it and those that will get it. Other factors: “.....As the novel coronavirus sweeps across the United States, it appears to be infecting and killing black Americans at a disproportionately high rate, according to a Washington Post analysis of early data from jurisdictions across the country... ..A Post analysis of available data and census demographics shows that counties that are majority-black have three times the rate of infections and almost six times the rate of deaths as counties where white residents are in the majority.....” https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/04/07/coronavirus-is-infecting-killing-black-americans-an-alarmingly-high-rate-post-analysis-shows/?arc404=true Dark skinned people have a higher need of sunshine. Put them in a cold place where they get minimal sunshine and there are serious health issues. There are also ‘white’ skinned people who have vitamin D issues - Depending on the particular sect of islam there can be a requirement for males to cover nearly all their body whenever they are outside. Females - yep. Sunshine = ? .
  4. Hmmm... if somebody were trying to scare somebody into selling cheap they’d be talking up the doom..? I’d wait a couple of weeks before getting to worried about things. Listening to the Ben Shapiro show on YouTube this morning he mentioned that testing suggests over 40% of New Yorkers have had, or have, the ChiCom virus. If this is correct then hysteria should abate and a more pragmatic mindset will get things going again. .
  5. What-ever the best way to land a particular aircraft may be I’d suggest practicing all possibilities that the aircraft has to offer - Unless yer flying somebody else’s aircraft. And I’d also suggest practice is what you do by yer-self or with an instructor. And keep in mind a ground loop can be done as a last resort stopping action if yer fast running out of ‘runway’ and brakes just before that cliff top..? .
  6. OK then, if pilots operating at the airfield are aware of all them wires around the airfield then why are aircraft still flying from the airfield ?...? Power checks can be done rolling if you are familiar with what to expect re revs etc. .
  7. Apparently funding wind power was more important..? “...A new report indicates that New York City auctioned off its emergency stockpile of 500 ventilators several years ago, thanks to budget cuts and attention to other priorities.....” https://www.breitbart.com/health/2020/04/07/report-new-york-city-auctioned-off-ventilator-stockpile/ .
  8. ...? “...Discharged CCP virus patients reinfected. Student disappears after calling Xi Jinping to step down...” .
  9. As a pilot, ask me what’s on the ground near an airport and I likely couldn’t tell you - to busy flying to be sight seeing. My sight seeing happens once set-up in cruise well away from the high traffic environment of an airport. I’ve done a bit of low level flying in fixed wing and choppers and I know from experience them power lines are very hard to see at the best of times, let alone when yer in a high workload environment just after an engine failure. At any rate, re the prang, all theoretical at the moment. .
  10. ChiCom Virus or CCP virus is what many in the world are calling it so I’m a bit mystified why it is offensive. Unless, yer a supporter of the Chinese Communist Party ?....? .
  11. .....? If two consenting adults are prepared to risk flight, then them same adults can work out for them-selves if they want to risk the ChiCom Virus..? .
  12. Yep, great analogy..? My question would be what idiots allowed the local school to be in the situation that it could be threatened by a bushfire..? Back with the CCP Virus... .
  13. Reasons why the aircraft were descending will come out in the accident report. All pilots should know from their basic training just why the aircraft hit the power lines - You don’t see them. Unfortunately the accident pilot were put in a bad situation. .
  14. Steams great stuff. Still used in many applications. As to a vehicle ‘engine’ it is probably only a goer if all yer got is wood or coal for fuel. Near the end of the steam train age many steam engines were converted to oil fired - they carried a big tank of oil behind them instead of a coal wagon. It wouldn’t have been much to realise even back then why not put a smaller diesel power plant in and get away from the ‘constant loss’ steam engine. A future project: I’ve got a bit of belt drive machine shop equipment that will be powered by a steam engine....... ? .
  15. Would the sign just be an advisory of overhead lines? .
  16. Way, way back in the 1940’s there were a Kittyhawk pilot that took off outa Darwin airdrome to stop a mob of bombers heading our way. Now, I’m thinking here - should I be worried about a country that sent us even more pilots just like that P40 pilot, or should I be worried about a country that sent us a virus.... thinking, thinking........? .
  17. Don’t worry. There are plenty of Chinese communist party insiders cashed up and ready to buy any distressed businesses...? .
  18. Under way... “...Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) joined Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow to discuss his proposed legislation to allow the Department of Justice to investigate China for potential release of a biological weapon reaching American soil...” https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/04/07/rep-lance-gooden-allow-doj-investigate-china-coronavirus-bioweapon/ “...President Donald Trump announced Tuesday at the White House that he would put a hold on funding to the World Health Organization amid the coronavirus crisis. “They were wrong about a lot of things,” Trump said...” https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/04/07/donald-trump-announces-hold-on-world-health-organization-funding/ .
  19. Looking at some of the videos out there of the crash scene I noted a chap putting out a ‘Live Wires’ sign ? .
  20. Looking at the trees there’s not a breath of wind..? A small detail - One thing I’ve noted is the very low engine noise levels in your videos. I guess the audio is via a direct connect to the mic. I’ve never been in the type of aircraft you fly, maybe they are very quiet inside? Perhaps there is some way to get a cockpit feed of engine noise ? Not much, just enuf to add a bit more ‘feel’ to your already excellent videos. .
  21. Nate Silver makes some interesting comments... “...If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know I’m constantly going on about how the number of COVID-19 cases is not a very useful indicator of anything — unless you also know something about how tests are being conducted...” https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/coronavirus-case-counts-are-meaningless/ .
  22. Being to lazy to search for a more reliable source I’ll use Wikipedia..? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_to_liquids .
  23. I tried the link again and no go. At any rate, I found Professor Murphy doing the presentation on the ABC news site. Professor Murphy makes the point that they are basing their ‘worst case’ graphs on overseas data. You can only work with the info yer got. As we are finding out the overseas data is now proving hugely overblown and ill-informed. I’m thinking Professor Murphy will be offering up revised graphs in the next few days - and he expected as much...? .
