boleropilot
did my BFR at Gympie on Thursday, followed up with half a dozen circuits on Friday to polish my landings (some were real greasers - others...not so) - but as someone else said on this thread, Drifters are not all that hard to come back to after a break. for me it was 18 months and man did it feel good to be back in the air again!!! gotta say I was surprised how easy it was to get back in the groove. did some work on 0455 today, going back into Boonah on Thursday to finish off a few little jobs before the blue head 582 goes on - got some pressies for the lil beasty including a very nice 4 led landing light (let's call it a 'here I am' light) and (to be sure) a nice little strobe for the top of the kingpost. and yes, I did have a tiny little close call in the circuit at Gympie (and at Boonah in the past) so I'm a bit titchy about being seen..... someone else mentioned grey head motors, guys, let me know if you need bits and pieces for these, I have two including gearboxes and carbs. Russ
Hey frank...we have arrived back home, coastal north from Airlie beach, overflew your strip at 3500 ....was tempted, but we was heavy as, missis gear, 4 days away, she packs everything including the sink, so your 500m was going to be "interesting" ....poss wet grass etc etc, and me touching down a tad quick to be sure with weight, 500m might've got SHORT. BTW.....Dunk Is, is again open to flyins for brunch.....call day before. Catchup later...

biggles
Hmm Frank , that first pic shows how narrow that valley really is . I never quite saw it like that , maybe I was too preoccupied with the High Voltage power lines , dark shadows on the banks of the Mulgrave and wondering if I would get the rather heavy Jab down on this little grass strip in one piece ...... farri
Frank your property almost looks like a reversed image of a map of Australia. Yeeeaaahhhh! Geoff!...Now that you say that,I can see it too and I`m not sniffin anything. Hmm Frank , that first pic shows how narrow that valley really is . ...... Bob G`Day Bob! yeah it is and it`s not much wider south of here until you get to Babinda. Way back when! I had a guy in the front seat of the Drifter, took off and headed south, in my designated training area! I was right in the middle of the valley, a couple of N M`s down the track, siting comfortably in the back at 1500`agl, looked to the left and an F111, banked almost on it`s left wing tip, went past at the same altitude, turned east and flew over the Graham range, just before Bramston beach...We didn`t hear any noise or get any turbulence....Was nice to see. Samuel117
Here some pictures from last Monday. It was Memorial Day and we could not let it pass. Our respect and admiration to the brave men who died defending the freedom we enjoy today. Let's not forget the past so we don't have to suffer it again. 1

Samuel117
About the sunken speedboat. It is sad that it sunk two hundred yards from the Coconut Grove marina showed in one of the pictures.
