Sacrilege!! He cut up a MERLIN engine, to make a V-twin for a drag bike!? He should be hung, drawn and quartered, and his remains fed to the wolves!! 😬

Don't criy .

they ( all  ) went into the 'smelter ' even brand new , still crated & coated with a hard Inhibitor  .

After the war .

They were never made to last for long . So their, demise was to feed the Hungary.

I didn't know where to put it. It is oddball so I put it here. Move it to a more appropriate thread if you want.

You are the one causing trouble. I am a moderator. Consider yourself warned. This site is dedicated to recreational aviation, not motorcycles.

The engine is a modified Merlin 12 out of an aircraft so I believe it has a connection, it was last displayed at the Mechanos Air show in Mackay.

Then he should have started a fresh topic. It does not fit the theme of this topic.

There is a forum on this site called Engines and Props which is more apropriate.

I normally would not comment on Forum Politics but

But No comment on the 'pretend' radial????

At least the chopper motor cane from a plane

The radial will never come off the stand

I would expect all Moderator to be fair and balanced....

and not let personalities play a part of their judgments

Lucky Keizer took a Rolls Royce Merlin engine from a Mosquito aircraft, chopped off two cylinders and built a bike around it.

hardly likely to be a "roaring" success and there was no shortage of merlin engines back then.  Nev

" No shortage of aircraft engines " .

I went to different factories , picking up boxed engines , dropped onto the truck . ( to brake the box ) ,

All brand new.  Wouldn't be $ 20 each ( 10 pound) . The price of the new Harley Davison motor bike in a box to go last onto said truck  . Same factory.

Not just one . Hundreds .

:  just to put engines in here too .

10 quid was  2 weeks wages then.  You couldn't just JUMP on one and ride it away. They were part dismantled and tropic inhibited. Nev

Shawbury in Shropshire England.

Has sill got many aircraft wreaks , it stopped scrapping them in 1972 .

What's left there will just rot away .

Lots more places than I ever went to .

I was going to post a picture,  but decided  !    , noeer . ( too many engines ) .

Yet Brendans post of a static engine is fine and dandy?

Yea I see you matey

Firstly, BrendAn's post didn't lead to a thread drift to motorcycles. And I have asked Ian how I can move a post. I can move a whole topic to a different forum, but I'm not sure about individual posts.

I admit that when I created the topic that I did not add 'aircraft' to the title, and did not specify it was for aircaft. But after 25 pages and 267 aircraft, I thought it would be obvious. It was to inform members about some ot the weird things people have built, or designs created for military specs which were not successful and did not enter production. Often there was only one photo of the design, and insufficient detail available to complete a profile in the Aircraft forum.

Oh right, so it's my fault that the thread drifted to motorcycles and I get a warning for other peoples posts.

Red, BrendAn's original post showed a rotory engine with a propller, I didn't read every post so assumed it was aviation related. Unfortunately forum threads have a tendancy to drift off topic. Happens all the time on the other site. Part of a moderators job is to try and keep things on track. It just so happens I have a lot of research invested in this topic, alongside the Aircraft profiles.
