It's "normal" to review at 12 months. Most comments were against restrictions applying. Nev

Planning to convert my RPC to a RPL.

Took about an hour to do the online med class 5 course. I would call it a mini Human Factors course, then the declaration and take my money ($10). Took about 10 minutes for the certificate to be emailed to me.

Talking to a friend who tried to do the conversation with a Bankstown school and they would not accept the med 5. What has been other peoples experience of GA schools for RPC/RPL conversion ?

Class 5 only exists via CASA Exemption EX01/24 Flight Crew Medical Status (Class 5 Medical Self-declaration) Exemption 2024

Para 3 Application of this instrument

This instrument applies, according to its terms, to and in respect of the following
persons, when they are engaged in certain private operations or permitted class 5
training:

(a) student pilots conducting solo flights in an aircraft

(b) applicants for a recreational pilot licence

(c) holders of a private pilot licence or a recreational pilot licence who are exercising the privileges of the licence

Go fly.

Case closed.

Yep. I have read the exemption and I believe a med 5 should be fine (ie the school is legally covered).

I am aware of one Bankstown school that refused outright to accept the student and became uncooperative when they tried to discuss it. Does not seem to be an insurance issue.

It's perhaps probable that some places just don't want to get involved with RPC to RPL conversions - at all.

If you do find somewhere in southern (or south of) Sydney, be sure to tell us where. It might be something I look at one of these days.

The only thing that I can see that maybe a problem for an instructor (and I am not a person trained in law) is if instructors are responsible for the performance of his student.  If the student lied and had a fit or something while flying and the instructor was held responsible then the instructor may wish to have a more rigorous medical certificate.

I would not expect any instructor to be legally libel for a student lying if it did occur (but who knows).

I would expect RPC to RPL plus CTA to be mainly dual anyway.

Learn2fly at Canberra seems to be both RAAus and Casa. Anybody have any experience of them ?
