  1. Thanks mate I'll print out and hang in my hangar. Cheers
  2. Palmyra airfield group celebrated 20 years of Aviation with current and past aircraft owners and pilots who operated from the airfield over the past 20 years and we were also thankful to have the mayor of Mackay Greg Williamson present as he is a talented and current pilot. Good to catchup and make new acquaintances. Well done to those that organised the occasion. Palmyra is at the western edge of Mackay controlled airspace in Queensland and a 700m private sealed strip 18/36 and is home airfield for 10 hangars that share the grounds with the Mackay Drag Race club so a few times a year it is closed and PPR is required for access and there is AvGas available by PPR.
  3. The gliding skill can be used lining up cloud streets. Did it between Mackay to Temora and mate was impressed in the reduced fuel usage just by remaining in the buoyant / lift air of the streets; therefore another use of the VSI in powered flying.
  4. I carry two spare 'o' rings in my kit and a spare whole curtis valve when on trips away. as a failed vale can muck up trip and flight plans. So if discovered after fuel drain I can do a refit of an 'o' ring and no noticeable delay. no weight or cost involved as light and cheap.
  5. One thing I do is burp the engine to put its oil into the can, check that level on the dip stick, should be between the low and high mark. Note this level. Now when I change oils I empty into a graduated container. Then what ever the amount taken out is what I put back in; that way the level is the same. When changing the filter (I do every second oil change, I add an extra 100ml of oil and put a little oil in the new filter. Can not go wrong this way. About a year ago a friend was doing an oil change and I happened to be there after he started. He put on new filter and added 3 litres of oil when he pulled the engine through pre start oil poured into the cabin, it was a lightwing and the oil can is on the cabin side of the firewall. oil poured out of the can onto the cabin floor. Reason was the sump still containing oil as he didn't burp the system; had he adopted the method of measuring the oil amount taken out he would have seen something wrong before he put the new oil in.
  6. Thanks for quick reply RF. Do I solder a cer cap between the two large red circles, and solder another cer cap to the wires out of the red arrowed capacitor? When you say to consider adding a 100 size cer cap in parallel do I just attach the wires at same places (both wires for each soldered at same spots? Appreciate comments and your time as know you are busy with your JabRotax project and other things. Cheers Mike
  7. It will pull apart; when you have a chance, no urgency could you advise where to solder the disc ceramic cap; and if I use 2 one on each usb outlet. Thanks
  8. Thanks RF; will do that and check results. Thanks also Gary and others for info. I have sent an email to Steinair about their $55 USD item as it is a twin 2.4amp outlets (4.8 amps must be better than 3.1 a [1 = 2.4] and was intending to email Mendellsens as unsure of the specs of their $55AUD item (they mention modified car unit and it looks like the Jay Car unit and it may contain RF's mod. For additional info; working to a budget when my $180 12 month plan sim in my ipad mini ran out early (not sure what I was doing wrong usage wise) and with purchasing an iphone 13 and data plan I now share internet access via personal hotspot which requires wifi on so this may add to the situation.
  9. Myself I regularly check the asi info and compare to GNs in flight and more so in turbulence. Before joining down wind and in the circuit I reference the asi. By this I mean I don't watch it and chase the numbers; but just a scan glance to see the numbers and adjust my target depending on the flying weight (eg solo or two up and amount of luggage and the strip condition sealed / grass or a rough unknown road or property). I also ensure my asi is calibrated at annual inspection. Cheers
  10. Nice to see they have Zulu headsets. I am happy with my sets. Thanks for the posts.
  11. Looking at changing out the JayCar dual usb 5v outlet in my panel as get some noise at times that stops when I pull out the USB then will come back later when plugged in. Would like to fit a unit that fits the usual car type cigarette outlet size. Has anyone purchased and used with success a unit. Thanks in advance.
  12. Changed out the remaining two radiator hoses to 25mm id silicone elbows and replaced the coolant so a quick 36 minute lap around the block to check the hoses are secure and coolant level correct. A little bumpy as down at 1,500 feet. Nice otherwise so now ready for a bit of a trip. Also trying the Gopro on the super wide angle setting. 1894114933_26July2022.mp4
  13. I remember when a mate refuelled the Antonov at Rockhampton (delivering the Singapore equipment a few years back) and when asked they said another 25,000 thanks. Forget the actual amount. Did see her through the fence one night and it was huge.
  14. Refuelled at Gove years ago, an Indonesian fishing vessel was ahead of us on the fuel wharf and we would have liked to pay their price as we paid aussie price and they were untaxed being international vessel.
  15. Up here at least 400 to 600 litres is a lightish fuel load. My 17 has a 200 litre tank and its a shocker to fill.
  16. BrendAn really need more details like image of the filter attachment area, what brand filter was fitted, how many hours in service, who fitted it and how; to name a few.
  17. Pay $1150-00 per year, $1,000 is maintenance fee and $150- mowing account. We maintain a 700 meter bitumen strip and have insurance cover for the group. Hangars are owned.
  18. Plus need to come to a carry through member and on this model its where the undercarriage main legs are. Skyfox is an example where the carry through tube was found to be insufficient and certain models required an additional carry through tube fitted.
  19. Also the filters thread could have been incorrect sizing.
  20. Reports now saying its out as of 45 minutes ago. Next question out there is how long before she fly's again.
  21. Yes, my poor spelling. Yes the talking aloud their check points is a noted safety improvement; did the course 20 years ago but one of many beneficial learnings. Unable to edit. Thanks and cheers.
  22. Sling High Wings From Joburg To Oshkosh And On... - Sling Aircraft Blog Will be a great flight and blog to follow. A mate shared the info.
  23. That is always good, I have the usual responses and their meaning as a placard above and to my left as a reminder; as I'm not using them all the time and in an effort to give the correct reply. Regarding my comment on saying my checklist when solo, this was something I took away from an investigations training course with ATSB in Canberra, worth a visit if you can. The saying of checklists has one origin from Japanese Rail train conductors to prevent compliancy with procedures. Cheers
