Just remembered who told me the story about the young fellah who flew solo in a Tiger Moth to get training for an actual flying licence. It was the late Rod Hay from Katoomba who many will remember. Lovely guy and sadly missed by many. We shared lot's of laughs one weekend at a Narromine event.

Many moons ago there was a young fellah who'd supposedly been flying his grandfathers Tiger Moth around the property for years with no licence. As the story goes, someone told him he'd have to get a license, or end up in the poo. Apparently he used to fly the Tiger Moth solo to an airfield not too far away to undertake proper lessons where he eventually got his licence. I suppose this could have an element of truth to it if you lived out in the sticks, but I can't vouch for it's accuracy. It is something I was told a long time ago at a fly-in, where as many would know, that the truth is always spoken in the clubhouse???

In some outback places, the normal rules that apply for all, are not always adhered to. Who know's, but dosen't want to say? Maybe time will reveal, maybe not!

See Mate!, we told you you could do it. We had every faith in you. Just get it all finished before it's time to push the daises out of the ground. You are an inspiration to others. Rgds Planey.

Emergency landing at Sydney beach

So what's the story if a pilot also takes his pet dog along for the ride? -

That's what they squwak if they are about to get sucked into jet engines.

Do you have an identification chart similar to those provided above, to assist us?

Hey Spacey, You look a bit like me and are probably doing a bit of wishful dribbleing. At least it gives us something to dream about before we eventually drop of to sleep. Should be plenty of of good flying left in those birds yet.

Obviously the jet could easily outrun the drone in this footage, but I think the drone pilot did an amazing job. https://www.facebook.com/UNILADTech/videos/2885299601741244

Some "Go fund me" pages seem to do pretty well Spacey!

Interesting article re: hydrogen powered aircraft. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210401-the-worlds-first-commercial-hydrogen-plane. The upside is that for those of us on limited flying budgets, we could possibly see slot meters installed, where you throw in a couple of bob to do a quick circuit or two

Bunderburg Bolts have been available for quite some time, it seems.

What can be done about shrinking airports?
planedriver replied to planedriver's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Lets hope so Skippy. Badgerys Creek is not supposed to open until about 2026. Hopefully Bankstown will last till then. -
Aviation is, or at least should be, a vital necessity within a huge country like Australia and yet so many airports are being removed off the map. Privatisation is an absolute curse, and seems only to be fodder for greedy developers. Sadly this is occurring all around the country and there seems to precious little to stop it. The other day I drove through Bankstown Development Park, which has for decades been a fine local Bankstown Airport in the Sydney basin. The size of the warehouses there have to be seen to be believed. Some are that big that you could almost make the runways on their roofs, and i'm not kidding. This is so sad to see, yet one can't help but feel that with such reduced manouvering space, a repeat of what happened at Melbourne's Essendon Airport when a King Air had problems and the area where the pilot may have been able to put down safely, was now filled with an industrial development, and the outcome turned out to be catasrosphic., It is hoped that all events go according to plan, but sooner, or hopefully very much later, that may not be the case. Hoxton Park and Schofields also went to developers in the same way, and from what I hear Warnervale and The Oaks have also been in the firing line. Greedy bastards! The value of emergency ops for fire fighting, law enforcement, medical evacuations, etc; etc; to mention just a few, do not even seem to be taken into consideration. It seems way beyond what common sense should dictate. If regional flights were hoped to operate from there, the clearance is likely to to be "cleared for take-off, warehouse 16 left. What can be done to put the brakes on this? I'm buggered if I know!

For those among'st us that like flight simulators, be grateful of the progress that has been made in recent years. After all, you could be trying to learn how to fly on learn on one of these.

Is the Seamew the Airtruk's grandma?
planedriver replied to Garfly's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
The Airtruk was a noisy little bugger, we could always hear them climb out of the Seven Hills yard, back in the days of my married bliss in nearby Baulkham Hils. when I actually owned a house. -
Any thread you want to post to should be fine Pete. Many on here would be so glad to hear that you're not pushing the daises out of the ground. Kind Rgds. Alan (planey)

Fantastic! I just love to see how guys on these forums help each other, and try to solve problems. Well done! It's all about watching others backs, and trying to keep us all safe.

Thanks lee-wave, of course you are correct. Just goes to show that great Aussie wine can confuss your fuzzle box late at night. Wing Cdr. Ken Wallis lived up on the east coast in Norfolk I think.
