  1. Hey guys was talking very loosely with Doug a while ago about having a flyin somwhere (proberbly NSW) fo every one but primarily focused on LIGHTWINGS..As Doug and Lesley have 001 and They may be able to organise 002, I have 004(box back no wing tanks)) and Im sure we could chase up 003(the other box back) and so on ..what do you guys think? wonder if Balina would be the place for such an event..? I d be keen:cheezy grin:.. Has anything like this been done? I know there was once a Thruster flyin and the turnout was amazing....
  2. a 2km walk to the hwy? well that counts me out....
  3. Hi Tony,Pat (above) and I were hoping to fly out tomoz for bbq (Pat from Aldinga ,me from home) but with rain forcast and a now forcast 17knts stherly on the ground pretty sure won't make it ..I would have a fight landing here with a 17kt 90 deg x-wind factor... Also agree with Pat,any chance of a heads up when theres some lil flights going on.I would love to join in ,if doable.. Anyway love the formation flying..hope to catch up very soon..
  4. had 2" of rain last weekend!!!!! first time in 13 years...weather been average, waiting for a break(good weather) to fly out to Murray bridge for the thursday BBQ..not looking to good with 14kt winds on the ground and rain predicted.. I love the chinooks ,was one of the planes on my short list but the lightwing came up.. good score mate:thumb up: ... Take it easy
  5. WOW..thats awesome Pat, big congrats...can't wait to see it..any pics?
  6. Good on ya ED,Take the bull by the horns and tame that beast.. Right now we NEED someone with balls to act.By the time the board get together and bicker about this NEW position, an oppertunity may be lost? I for one am happy he is acting on OUR behalf (I can say with the highest confidence that He is in the position for us-the members...). And I think it should be duly noted, its great to see Ed spared the time (which he has little of right now) to post an update of HIS descission on the site in good time...ANY WAY as Ed stated its only to SEP then we can all opinionate and vote on the out comes of His Executive descission/s... So Don,t jump ship just yet ..After all ,We need a captain not a co-pilot..... P.S my own personal opinion no preeching intended....
  7. For others who don,t know what Im running.I was the first Lightwing owner to have the "uncertified prop issues" and had a awefull time rectifing the problem, however working with Peter at Bolly and Howard, My lightwing GR 582 runnng a 2:62.1 ratio was certified for a 2 blade Bolly 68 x 54... Performance was slightly less than the origanal FACTORY CERTIFIED Brolga 68" 3 blade, also not even close to running smooth with the Bolly.. The bolly after a mier 3 hrs work had a bad "stone chip"???????? right up at the Hub end of the prop..The Bolly was sent back and repaired very crudely..Still see splits in the top surface where the chip has been filled with a resin..After reinstalling the ORIGINALLY CERTIFIED PROP bROLGA 68" 3 BLADE Their is no comparison...The BROLGA kicks Ass... so silky smooth with 5800rpm cruise of 78kts or as i like 5400rpm at 70kts.... Sorry Bolly but wasn't happy and then the customer service????? crickey don,t get me started after sending my Bolly back express post, it sat on their bench unopened for 3 weeks and all my ringing made no difference. I rang on a sat only to be told very rudely not to ring on a sat as their closed???well don't have your Business phone divert to your home phone(which is at the hanger as He lives in a caravan on site)..not happy and should the time come for a new prop will not be going with Bolly again... P.S To the Tech Manager whome descided the ORIGINAL props wernt CERTIFIED...Do your F#%^#ING homework(JOB) moron theses props where CERTIFIED and most are still in fine serviceable condition within expiry...??? hmm go figure...bl&*&Y clowns . YES YES YES they are certified and LEGAL... OH this only applies to LIGHTWING owners whomes Plane was factory fitted with a 582 not a 532.. As mine was fitted from factory with a 582 my MTOW is 480kgs( as approved by RAA australia FEB 2013....) lightwing 004 (4th factory built) ahhh rant over..funny I feel a lil better now
  8. looks awesome Doug,No Patent on em? sweet Ill pinch your idea and build the same:thumb up:
  9. Just wondering if you worded it wrong? Im thinking that what you may be getting at? is in your lil plane you only climb out at 200ft and so by the time you reach 500ft(on take off) you could be several kms out..right? regardless, the answer still remains 500ft...So unfortunately (and ive been there) you just have to indeed wait for them magic numbers on the alt(AGL 500ft) before turning, of coarse if your entering circuit in regular flight you would be in the same position (roughly) as any other LP aircraft IE. 500ft AGL circuit within a safe distance from the strip should the prop stop..
  10. is this insider info? or just havin a bad day with RAA? more detail appreciated....
  11. Yay ... happy its back:score 010:.....NORMAL...
  12. multi talented:juggle: ....my kinda guy:cheers:
  13. IMO, firstly I would not recommend learning by flight sim at home as there is no feel (A key factor for piloting an aircraft). A home P.C sim can help with basics but as for the real thing NO comparison. With NO Stick pressure you can pick up bad habbits like over controlling for one..., Also with No real Danger one can get pretty confidant quickly and the mistakes go un noticed... But on the other hand I bet the old school pilots back in the day sure wished they had a flight sim..!!Believe me....Jack Flyer envies these home PC flight sims. Better than just jumping in fresh and going for it..well ???? the outcome looks like it could be the same.... Like you stated ,,,,,,now days (here too )one requires at least 5hrs real flight training.. .
  14. I ran wheel spats on my thruster t83 and landed always on rough fields(long grass, rocks, mud, you name it) never had a problem but for performance? IMO they made no difference and were only on their for looks... as for paint schemes I was told my old Supercat was difficult to see in the air and im told my lightwing is much easier to spot must say i'm envious Don...Im keen to have a go in a savy...I have always liked them and I find them pleasing on the eye..Aint nothing wrong with a flying box (love my lighwing box{as apposed to the normal LW turtle back )...(oh sorry Maj,Doug, etc I do like your turtle but must be faithful to my "LADY LEA" box back)
  15. been looking at GYRO's of late as my Neighbour is real keen..I flew down to lamaroo rotor club 2 days ago to admire Kevin Traggers beast was impressed with how it flew... and on take off/departure had the pleasure of looking down on it on final..awesome.
  16. you sure its the engine? could just be turbulence?
