Asiana 214 New Crash & Rescue footage 2017
derekliston replied to kgwilson's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
All comes down to personal experience. Haven't flown A380 to LHR with Emirates and I sure as Hell haven't flown business class! Cattle class only for me so all my choices are relative to that. -

I too am really picky about international airlines. I've flown Air India (I'd rather walk before I'd fly with them again) Qantas and BA (Cabin crew appear to think the passengers come last, in my experience anyway) Emirates (Most uncomfortable 777 seats ever) Brunei (Stages via Dubai airport which I hate, also an Emirates problem!) the only one we've flown more than twice is Cathay Pacific which is far and away our favourite! -

Well spotted!!!! Obviously should have been firies but stupid spell check changed it. Must get into habit of proof reading. Having said that, they might as well have been fairies for all they initially did! Also can't believe that people risk their lives to retrieve their carry-on baggage. Don't they realise how quickly a fire can spread and just how toxic the smoke is? Have to say they were lucky in more ways than one! -

Two things I've learned from this. Don't fly Asiana and don't go via this airport. I can't believe a) How long it took to get the fairies there and b) How the second and third appliances basically just sat and watched for an age. -

Just drove over one of those highway strips today on the Stuart highway somewhere around Coober Pedy and saw several on the Nullabor in the past! -
We are on a road trip towing our camper trailer. The only thing I can think of that has come down massively in price, not just in real terms but in actual dollar numbers over the last fifty or so years! -

Super impressed with the fly-in and air show. Really well organised, no awkward gaps in the air show program and some top performances. In my (almost) 70yrs I have been to a lot of air shows, in Scotland, England and the USA as well as here at home and this would definitely rank with the best of them. Have to try to fly in next time! -

I'll be there but driving since we will be at the start of a six week road trip! -
Sorry you feel it is out of context, I think where CASA are concerned you need to be super careful. I am with you on the encourage people to fly aspect but being in Warwick I can't offer the 'seat around Brisbane' bit, but anyone coming this way is welcome to contact me!

Way to go!!!

Very true, but what I am saying is don't cry for me too much should the worst ever happen!
-
I am always interested in the opinions of others, I also try to be as safe as possible, PLB, two radios, transponder, but there are times when none of the above would be helpful as in for instance a wing detaching as an early eye witness report stated. Does anyone yet know whether that was accurate or if the wreckage was intact when discovered. We all feel for the pilot's family but I must say that personally, whilst I strive to stay alive I would elect for a couple of minutes of sheer terror and lights out over six months or more languishing with some horrible cancer.
-
Shame about your friend but I can only tell you my experience. I presume your friend also flies uninsured because no company would pay out for a pilot out of compliance with the law!
-
Lucky you!
-
Not so much that as the reward part. Define reward?
-
The real problem is CASA. I think they keep the rules deliberately ambiguous. If you went for a drive with a mate and because he paid for the fuel you bought lunch that would be no problem. Transfer that to an aeroplane and who knows!
-
Don't know about recreational certificate but PPL pilots cannot fly 'for hire or reward' tricky one that. Define reward? I am pretty sure sharing fuel cost is Ok but be careful what is defined as 'reward' This is CASA we are talking about!
-
As a LAME CASA were not my favourite people, however to be fair, as a pilot I have been happy in my dealings with them. I had a heart attack three plus years ago and thanks to Avmed I have had my licence back for two and a half of those. Yes it makes life a little bit more expensive with the additional medical requirements but they are helpful when I speak to them and I can't ask for much more!

Finally, after jumping through what often seemed like endless hoops I today received my unrestricted CofA for my VH experimental registered CH701. Now I might be able to think about visiting all of you who fly from Kilcoy and maybe get down to Coominya also!

Airspeed Envoy with twin Pobjoy radials? Pure guess, no google!
-
Bloody Hell that was quick! Correct but when I worked on it it was operated by an aerial survey company and was called a Desford and was piloted normally, not prone.
