  1. The problem is RAA instructors are few and far between, with time poor and cash rich students RAA schools need to get there acts together
  2. In Au we dont need to follow FAA part 103, our 95.10 is 300kgs or 660lbs gross makes part FAA103 254lbs empty weight rather pointless with our 95.10 ??
  3. VHF comms radio, GPS & PLB recon is all I need to worry about, GPS is non TSO rest is CASA/AMSA & ACMA approved
  4. 18 volt 2 amp hour $18 lithium battery pack from ALDI used to repack old Icom Nicad battery, 3x3.6 volt lithium-Iron cells fits in the original Icom battery pack, 2 years later still works a treat
  5. Was student PPL in early 90s often asked the purser on the flight I'm a student PPL they always allowed me up to the flight deck, some of the crew even known the flying school I was learning at
  6. Should find an reasonable 95.10 machine for $6-7k
  7. stick & rudder fly by the seat of your pants, saying that you be surprised so many ex military & airline pilots choose to fly 95.10 ultralights
  8. Australian airlines really have the pick of the crop to hire as junior aircrews , ATPL theory with bachelor and diploma degrees from academies or ex ADF aviators, with out either how does a bare bones CPL actually get to advance ??
  9. fake news. one reason why I dont trust mainstream media nowdays
  10. My partner who is not a pilot or aviator, knows a ultralight aircraft with a sink rate of 5 feet a second controlled emergency landing is a lot safer than sitting on a road motorcycle hitting a car at 10kph, in fact rather wants me to fly ultralight aircraft than ride motorcycle on the road
  11. RAA pilots certificate fly any aircraft up to 600kg MTOW outside of controlled airspace day VFR ?? would be fun a nano jet or rocket powered aircraft at 260 kias
  12. 40kW motor 30kWh battery total mass of motor and battery 200kgs, there goes my idea of CAO 95.10 home built electric aircraft
  13. Im sure regional shires with a aerodrome would love to get a slice of the business makes good sense for ab initio training, like a converted shed donger for class room and dozen Tecnam P92 would churn through 300 students per year with lots of landing & traffic fees ?? I can see some small RAA GA schools do deals with the larger training schools to offer ab initio training roles & tasks
  14. $5k redrive kit & $5k auto engine conversion looks very attractive for owner built sports aircraft
  15. Im sure the aerodrome operator & aero club, dont mind the extra income
  16. Im stumped with my civilian drivers licence I can drive single axle truck upto 4.5 t GVM,but not able to fly any aircraft over 600kg MTOW ??
  17. Open source sports aviation is the future solution for affordability & safety in sports aviation, CNC router tables 2x4 metre size, used everywhere and cheap to hire bring your own CAD files & materials, avionics & engine management based on CAN bus the potential is endless
  18. Automotive Technology internal combustion engines are up to the up to the minute, unlike todays GA engines circa 1940s
  19. ask what aircraft will you be flying in, download pilots operation manual, pilots check lists, watch youtubes on aircraft type you will be flying in
  20. RAA aviation deaths are tiny comparing to any other action activities, more people die riding quad bikes for recreation as example, single seat upto 600kgs should be exempt from any CASA CAO or CAR regulations, why should solo pilot only aircraft personal choice & risk be regulated to the same as GA & RPT, I understand when extra 3rd parties are as risk safety regulation should be at a higher level, the nanny state goes beyond common sense sometimes ??
  21. attitude + power = performance I was taught for every RPM & pitch attitude there was performance of climb or decent for given ASI
  22. Electric motors are 90% plus efficient vs petrol internal combustion with turbocharger intercooler 40% tops, electric might just add up for aviation ??
  23. cheaper to hire some fencing than break the bank with extra public liability insurance, holes big enough to allow taking photos, but small enough to keep you away, kinda sucks aviation show you not allowed to look close at the aircraft
  24. House rules every new pilot has to be checked out before hiring always been the case when took long service leave traveled around Au I got checked at couple of flying schools to allow hiring of there aircraft whilst staying in the area for few weeks
  25. The only way around it is to be under experimental owner built category otherwise its under regulation 35 of CAR. not sure if under RAA regs Lev 1 owner maintenance if you can do own mods, would be nice to have 95.10 style regs with 600kg MTOW then you can DIY your own mods ??
