  8. A 25 registered is an aircraft conforming to the now long defunct ANO 95.25 from 1985 era. (later, CAO 95.25) A 25 aircraft is not an LSA. - that's a whole different animal.
  9. Interesting that NZ ultralights are all properly country (ZK) registered. I went through Whanganui twice on the 20th June - by road, slurping my $3.15 a litre petrol.

  12. My aero club 172 started a small patch of grass below the exhaust light up a few years back. Luckily someone saw it and ran over to stomp it out. 183 times quicker than trying to find an estingsquisher. If there was one in the plane I don't know - pilot did not see or know anything at the time.
  13. Here's a question or seven. How many of us have had the actual need to use a fire extinguisher stored in an aircraft? (or even a car?) Would it be more likely useful to assist someone else while you are on the ground, or for yourself in flight or on the ground. How many of us have ever had to use a fire extinguisher anywhere in real life - or seen one used? Very few me thinks.

  15. Had a conversation with a fella in Tassie this afternoon. He has a LYC O-320B2C engine for sale, professionally overhauled and then pickled in Adelaide in 2004, it's still in the box. Was out of an R44 helicopter, but I see with some research some do use this B2C in aeroplanes. It has the conical engine mount, not the common dynafocal. It does have the oil sump for horizontal installation in aeroplanes. LYC manual shows B2C takes a fixed pitch prop. (seems it was destined for R22 though, or perhaps just not used in any other type certified aircraft) Would ideally suit an experimental aircraft. He was going to put it in a Baby Belle, that project did not proceed. The price seems real good to me. I'd buy it myself but my project is already set up for dynafocal mount and I have an engine. I have his phone number and email, but I won't post those here. PM me for that. First to ask "how much?" here will face the firing squad. I'm just trying to help the fella a little, you can talk turkey with him.

  19. Thanks - I found it, I'll take a look there. Chrysler motor would be my poison, slant or hemi. I have a mate who has a race built Charger, routinely takes it to about 7000+ rpm.
  20. AUSTRO engines are EASA certified and fitted to Diamond aircraft. Based on a regular Mercedes automobile engine. Jet A or diesel auto fuel.
  21. What re-drives are available these days for automotive type engines does anyone know? Can't seem to find much of anything current on the innerwebs. Just curious about this sort of thing, I've always wondered how well an Aussie straight six would go in an aircraft. Containing one to about 3000 RPM as direct drive might not work, or would it.

  23. Pffftttt....... Every landing I do I have no idea what I'm doing! You don't see me on the news! But aside, yep, this was a remarkable outcome. I find it interesting that somehow the passenger used some flying phrases on the radio eg "I'm passing 6300" (or whatever it was.) No passenger would say that.
  24. St Leonard's airstrip not an option Shajen? I don't know who owns it these days.... And there's another just north of there, west of Salt Lagoon. Or Swan Bay (Eon - Bay City Microlights). And there's a few others scattered on the Bellarine, all private.
  25. ASIC has nothing to do with CASA. Yes CASA just was for a time an "issuing body" - the same as numerous other players were and still are. I guess they decided it was even too hard or not worthwhile or BS for them to be involved with, so they got out of it totally. ASIC was not invented by CASA. My point is, ASIC is one thing we cannot blame them for, not even 0.1%.
