  1. Yes...I live in Caboolture Qld...last time I looked.. and yes I agree with Aldo, who cares what plane they showed it was about his time flying and protecting us...what a hero.. and looks to be still going strong at 100...well done sir.. David
  2. Sportstar is going great, you know it is funny even though I now own my own plane I still am finding the time to fly it hard, I wish I could retire..anyhow yes my training is ongoing, I have another lesson tomorrow so I hope the weather is good.. So is the 2 bladed propped aircraft faster than the 3 bladed one? David
  3. I watched that, where did you see the Hurri? I saw a bit of a frame in a photo with him sitting a cockpit...You must be watching a different Channel 7 David
  4. Don't they say...3 blades for show 2 blades for go... David
  5. Well they are supposed to comply with EMI laws but I would say most of them don't, CREE LED lights seem that they are compliant from what I have read but I have yet to test one, I will buy one in the next couple of days and try it out, I will let you know how it goes. David
  6. As far as my aircraft is concerned I have already done that and the manufacturer has given me the ok provided I don't change the wiring and fit a 50w LED replacement bulb in place of the halogen that was in there originally...it was a very simple change over until I turned on the radio and got all this interference... I need to fit a EM compliant LED...simple I thought....mmmm maybe not so.. David
  7. jetjr, I don't think ferrites will stop the interference as it is coming from the LED bulb itself, not the wires...you can try I guess.. David
  8. Yes you are right there Downunder, I think you will have a better chance buying European made lights than the ones made in China...the ones made specifically for aircraft are very expensive from what I have seen and also they don't seem to make the small 50mm MR16 type light bulbs that I am looking for ... David
  9. Ok thanks Mike... David
  10. Hi Mike, Ok where did you buy your landing light, do you have a link Mike? thanks David
  11. jetjr, From what I have found out it is the wiring/board inside the LED that creates the EM interference, not the wires or power supply, we need to find true clean LED's but that is the problem as they all say that theirs are compliant...as far as my LED's are concerned they are not...I hope to go and talk to another supplier tomorrow that seems switched on to the problem, I will keep you updated on what I find out... David
  12. Yes I will chase up the correct LED's today through the supplier that supplied me the one's I fitted, I will also ask him why he didn't give me the correct ones in the first place as I did explain to him it was going into an aircraft...they needed to be EMC compliant as per the info that Mike sent me, thanks again Mike. David
  13. Thanks guys for the help.. David
  14. We have twin 50 watt landing lights in our Sportstar which were your normal bulbed type lights, we decided to change them to LED's, very simple change, we did not have to change any wiring just take the old units out and fit the LED's in. We went a fly today and there is some sort of interference that affecting the radio, we couldn't work out where the noise was coming from until we turned the lights off once we did that the noise through our headsets was gone, never had this noise when I had the old bulbed lights in the plane. Does anyone have any idea on why we would be getting such a noise and how we can suppress it, any help would be appreciated, thanks. David
  15. I don't see how Oz Runways would work once you are out of mobile coverage, Spot uses satellite's and if you get into trouble to can hit the button like a EPIRB to get help. David
  16. Hi Mike, Merry Christmas mate, yes I have bought some gear and I am doing it myself, I think I have done a good job, a bit of polishing here and a bit of touch up paint there, I got my wheel spats repainted and they look great, my next thing will be to redo the seat upholstery, we found out on the flight up here from Victoria that the seat swabs don't have to much of a cushion in them so I will get a bit added and redo the floor carpet... it should be all good then...if you ever come down this way give us a yell mate if not we will no doubt meet up at Old Station.. David
  17. Yes I have seen VH-BJE quite a few times when we are training and he nearly always takes off and lands on the grass...sounds like they are talking between each other but not listening to what they are each saying...I have not had any issues with him, I just let him do what he does, I am in no hurry... David
  18. Yes I have looked into these, the latest is Spot3, the only drawback is the subscription but yes it looks like a good idea for an aircraft. David
  19. I think one of the things that you should cover seriously is safety of our aircraft and that we perceive flying safely as our number 1 priority, as you said I think, let them know that the aircraft we fly are real aircraft in every aspect except a bit smaller, we need to get people and the authorities to believe that safety is our number 1 .... but fun at the same time, we may then interest more young people to join our sport and keep CASA from making more rules and regulations to make our lives less fun... Good Luck with it Yenn I hope it goes well for you... David
  20. Yes love it, so how do they do it all of the passengers not just first class that can afford it, and 2 seats only...the fight is on for the turret seats with the view... David
  21. Yes that would ok Ian as long as you don't have to push a mower around on one of your 40 deg days in Melbourne..do they do an air conditioned mower... David
  22. When you are a first class member I believe you pay $50 for the privilege, so I would say looking around the site that are many that believe it is value for money, so looking forward, a very very small $5.00 per year subscription is really a non event imo, as I have said, I am sure there will be people here that would not even be prepared to spend a miserly $5.00 a year to help Ian maintain the site which is truly sad. I really don't see any problem with $5.00 per year, if you come on here even for a chat with someone would that be worth $5.00?...how much does a mobile phone call cost... David
  23. Well Ian I wish you good luck, not sure if the members here appreciate your loyalty towards a free website but good on you...all the best for Christmas and 2016 to you and your family Ian.. David
  24. Ian, Why don't you do a poll on a paid membership issue to gauge the views of everyone, of course all the short armed long pocket people will be upset about forking out $50 initially and $5.00 per year but it will be interesting to see everyone's thoughts on this issue.. David
  25. Looks like he was showing off his batting technique !!!!! David
