  2. I think it will bring other aircraft into the fold, like the factory built RV12, I am not sure at 750kg if you can have a Lycoming engine installed and still keep it under the MTOW ( maybe these only come with a Rotax) and stall rules but as a factory built LSA it would give flying schools other options like and I am not sure about this but aerobatics, would they then be able to be taught by the schools with that aircraft and would they be allowed by RAAus? David
  3. Yes there is always tomorrow hey boys...I will look for a good day next week to get the job done...I may try for tomorrow afternoon to practice a few circuits... thanks again fellas for your support... David
  4. Hi All, I have copied this directly from their website, I thought it may be of interest to new pilots just beginning their XC's Sport pilot and have been selected by a CASA inspector for a ramp check Printer-friendly version I’m a Sport pilot and have been selected by a CASA inspector for a ramp check What happens now? I’m a Sport pilot and have been selected by a CASA inspector for a ramp check The inspector will ask you for, or confirm, your pilot certificate and other relevant documentation You should carry your pilot certificate with you when you fly. However, some sport organisations may have different rules, so check your organisation’s operational manual or regulations. It is also suggested that you carry a copy of your log book page with last flight review. Current/valid RAAO membership Aeroplane operated in accordance with the privileges and limitations of your pilot’s certificate Correct endorsements for flight You must carry your current aviation medical certificate if applicable and you must be compliant with any restrictions or endorsements on your medical certificate or driver’s licence (e.g. the wearing of corrective lenses). The inspector will then check your preparation for flight Flight plan Have you maintained a navigation/fuel log? Have you made a careful study of forecast weather and applicable NOTAMs? ≥ 50nm from departure point ELT/PLB required for two-place aeroplane If carrying a passenger - passenger endorsement ≥ 25nm from departure point – cross country endorsement Are you carrying the appropriate, current charts and documents? Are they easily accessible? Are you carrying an EFB for your charts and documents? Back-ups considered? Finally, the inspector will check your aircraft The inspector will check: The aircraft’s registration is current Condition of the aircraft The daily inspection Pilot’s operating handbook (POH) or flight manual Emergency checklists Warning placard if applicable Copy of CofA if applicable Aircraft has a placarded maximum take-off weight in accordance with the flight manual Aircraft is operated within weight and balance limits Required emergency equipment on board is serviceable and accessible if applicable Personal locator beacon (PLB) has current registration with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) David
  5. Well my test is off for today, Mahl the CFI just called me, he is as sick as a dog with the flue, he sounded like it too, he said I can still do it if you want but I said that I don't need his flue, I can wait until next week rather than be in bed for days crook and then time off work. David
  6. Yes that is the one that I laughed at...moisture... funny answer... David
  7. Hi Pearo, Yes I will go up for at 1pm for 1 hr for a bit of practice with my instructor and then come back around 2pm to do my test, if you around then you should hear me, thanks for your wishes !!! David
  8. But it is so true, I watched the first episode the other night, well part of the episode, old bottle brush was right...it was boring and yes they were trying to make it feel like the old Top Gear....it failed miserably... I couldn't be bothered watching the new series, thank God I can go and watch Jeremy and his crew with the reruns on Foxtel, I have seen many episodes of the old Top Gear and I still sit there peeing myself laughing...for all of his failings and he has a few, Jeremy Clarkson IS Top Gear and together with the other 2 it just makes the right chemistry, it's like the 3 Stooges Moe is the leader and Curly and Larry pull it all together...that's all there is too it.. David
  9. Thanks Tony and everyone else that has wished me good luck, yes I am sure it will be all good and by Friday afternoon I will have a shiny new licence...well I hope so.. David
  10. Yes just bought a replacement for the Sportstar, I bought the same model as Alf's... a 410G. David
  11. Going for my licence flight with the CFI Mahl Oakes Friday, not to nervous yet but I feel confident I will do ok...so hopefully by the weekend if we have some good weather I will be able to go for a flight around the area and test out my new freedom... then straight into my nav training... David
  12. Parkway, I did mine 2 weeks or so ago, the questions are of a general nature basically a bit of everything of what you have learned since you started, just do a review of what you have done so far and you will be fine, 50 questions and you need an 80% pass and even if you don't get it right the first time the instructor should go through all the questions you got wrong and explain why you were wrong and then all you have to do is go and study up in those areas and try again when you are ready, good luck and don't worry about it to much, just go and do the exam you will be fine. David
  13. Great story AussieB, Yes I think you have your work cut out for you all right, It's a wonder those coppers you went past didn't turn around and pull you over just for a look and a larf.... Anyhow good luck with it and like someone said have fun but most of all be safe.. David
  14. Hi Parkway, They are an interesting aircraft to land the Sportstar aren't they, you need to be gentle on the brakes and when you are on the ground they are very sensitive, I can't quite make out in the video but it seems your doing about 100kts downwind? is that what it cruises at? David Sportstar 4910
  15. Nik recorded the whole series off Foxtel so I can watch them as much as I want... David
  16. Well done RJW...nice video...bit of a rough day for your first flight in a long time but it looked like you enjoyed it.. David
  17. Is an airship an actual aircraft or a fancy balloon? David
  18. I think Russia must have been one of the first if not the first to come up with the mothership idea, here are a couple of videos of the USSR's heavy bomber the TB3 , it carried everything from aircraft to tanks and even paratroopers...
  19. Congratulations Debra...It wasn't all that long ago that I did my solo and I remember the feelings well....so enjoy and have fun but the learning has just begun.. David
  20. Taken at Old Station last year with my cannon 35mm in auto mode..
  21. Yes I am sorry to say that my experiences on Aviation Advertiser is similar story to others, I find it slowwwwww to load and yes I believe someone said that when you look at aircraft for sale and you go back to the listing it takes you back to the 1st page not to where you were...this is very annoying so.... with this and the slow loading of pages I don't go onto it to often ...I am also working on a PC and ADSL2. David
  22. KR I don't understand why you would want to register your RV under RAAus rego, surely you would be better under VH reg being you have all the restrictions you described above, maybe if RAAus do lift the MTOW to 750kg at some stage you could bring it over then, I don't know how you could fly anywhere and be not worried about getting ramp checked and being found to be over weight and therefore illegal, as it stands right now you have a single seat aircraft. David
  23. What engine you running in that KR? not sure how they would get in under the 600kg for RAAus...I see it has the required stall speed...not sure about the MTOW though... David
  24. As far as I know it is there to catch impurities in the fuel, basically its a fuel filter and as far as the electric fuel pump is concerned these are optional on SportStars so there is no real need for them but my aircraft happens to have one and in the POH it says that it is only to be used at start up and not used continually as seen below, so it does not need to be on during climb out, so some aircraft probably do but not mine. "Electric fuel pump operates during engine starting period only. It is not intended for long continuous operation for long time."
  25. I don't know if my SportStar has bigger lines and bigger pump but I know in the POH that the electric pump does not need to be on while in cruise so the engine is just running off the standard mechanical Rotax pump and I use Mogas....so I don't see what a low wing has to do with anything?
